City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with numerous FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th September 2024

I like how the charges they mention are the grass length and the size of the rooms and nothing else.

We'd all like to see the PL throw the book at them, but what it will probably boil down to is the legality of FFP and the sustainability rules.

City will likely walk away unscathed.
They won't when you have other clubs getting points deductions. They will get punished it's just a question of the extent.

The City fan on the Overlap discussing the charges today was a moron.

Just watched and logged on to say this. Just complete and utter denial from beginning to end. I was a bit disappointed that he got so much mic time with barely a challenge. He even managed to delude himself that Mansour and co are doing everyone in the premier league a favour by taking on the might of the premier league.

Alternatively, if they cheat on the field as well, then Mansour and co will be doing everyone a favour by taking on the might of football itself. While we peons are stuck with following the rules that City are bravely fighting against. The offside rule and others are an unfair imposition on brave little City, who will be doing us all a favour by ignoring them and winning trophies with their team of lawyers.

It's a classic "fan" response to be honest. They will clutch at any irrationalities they can to legitimise their success. If they are found guilty we will see a number of them still run in circles trying to justify things.

The 115 club aiming to be the best ever football club in the history of PL. After cheating for so many years they killed the competitiveness of PL.

"City are also aiming to become the first side to win four English top-flight titles in a row as they sit one point off Premier League leaders Arsenal, whom they face on March 31 at the Etihad.

The Citizens face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals next month, while they are also looking forward to a heavyweight Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

Bernstein believes a second consecutive treble would make this City team "the greatest club side in the history of English football".

The ex-FA chairman said: "The question is, can they [Man City] replicate last season? I think they've got a chance.

"I still think they're favourites for the league. I'd expect them really to be favourites for the FA Cup. The Champions League is very, very tough, but they're a great side.

"If they could do this now, I think they could claim to be the greatest club side in the history of English football.

"To do the treble two years running, it's never been done, and to win the Premier League or the top division four times in a row has never happened. It would be unique and remarkable."

Apologies if this has been shared previously but I couldn’t see it anywhere.

This got shared on a WhatsApp group last night and they are all either so unbelievably naive, OR we are all going to have to walk away with our tails between our legs in a few months.

The excitement is going to kill me:rolleyes:

City aren't cheats

There will be pitchforks if they get away with it.

Most of the media are on the payroll and the rest have the threat of legal action hanging over them. It’ll never be mentioned again.

But yeah, they’re the little guys breaking the aristocracy etc.

It's incomprehensible these people (all obviously linked to the club) can't see how ridiculous this looks, City are the ones making everything so slow. This kind of media release though - designed to pressure the PL - gives me some hope though, I still think the punishment will be tiny though.

They are the PL flagship club now and I don't think the punishment will be serious too. They dominated the PL for years and now they are starting to do well in Europe too. Hence the below statement.

Whatever happens with this will be a pivotal moment in English football.
Slap on the wrist = waste of time and my personal disengagement with the whole thing.
What should and hopefully will happen is the nuclear option of removing PL titles (whatever happens to them I don’t care) and removal from the PL for x years. 5 years seems right to me.
If the punishment does not fit the crime and the clear and obvious attempts to delay/obfuscate the process succeed then we will all know it’s fundamentally broken and not worth giving a shit about.
Which will be a huge shame as it’s a massive part of my life and (I assume) a massive part of everyone’s life who posts here.

Not sure I follow how the statement shows that? He's ex City so is obviously pushing the PR angle i.e. hurry up so we can celebrate how amazing we they are.

The UAE is in the process of buying, as in literally buying, the Telegraph and the Spectator so there's two directly. Will be interesting to see what the gov probe into the deal comes out with but assume it will go through. This is the world we live in I guess.

 get real

I doubt any punishment will ever be served tbh.

But I do hope the premier league at least goes through with the palava of issuing the full punishment, and just lets the court battles and counter claims that follow playout in the public.

Add to that the media hospitality events and complete silence on their spending and ownership by many journalists.

Can you imagine the media frenzy that would be happening if a ref was paid by the Glazers and then gave us multiple favorable decisions in big games?

“Where a PSR breach is ‘minor’, then it will be for other commissions to determine if any points deduction is necessary, appropriate or proportionate but if the breach is properly described as ‘major’ then it may be the case that even a very severe sanction such as expulsion is more appropriate.”
City, of course, deny any wrongdoing.

From what I've seen the current consensus is that it's not likely that goes through.

I think it depends on the proposed new law. The issue is RedBird can just reshuffle its org chart and probably get around it if that blocks it.

I've never understood why they couldn't deal with the more obvious/blatant charges that must be amongst the 115 charges before now, and the more complex ones later on.

No matter what they do to them, it is always going to be watered down if all the 115 charges are wrapped up into one punishment.

It's so nauseating hearing all the fawning over them from the media like these charges don't exist.

If I were a cynical conspiracy theorist, I would question whether they’re only handing out punishments to the lower top-tier teams so that they get pissed off and back the super league plan which all the top teams are already behind

Yup, it’s disgusting. And this is why I’m rooting against them. The arse licking would be unbearable.

So not any currently?

If you’re asking that poster to bring you some proof of journos on the payroll, you’ll be waiting some time. But there’s a clear aversion to talking about City negatively, now there’s a possibility it’s because they just don’t generate that much interaction compared to clubs with larger fan bases but it seems highly unlikely as it’s a story that affects everyone in the league. Why - for example - is no uproar going on with Michael Oliver, especially from Arsenal and Pool fans, with the story there?

There have been plenty of City articles though, and when decisions are made there will be more. If these articles sold, they would make more.

It’s the biggest scandal in the history of the richest and most followed league in the world. It’s barely spoken about by major outlets. Granted as we both said it might just not be interesting but it seems unlikely as you have 3 huge fan bases this year in particular eager to know more with 2 in the race with them and then us being local.

I agree with this.

If they're found guilty, the only way to really punish them would effectively mean that they cease to exist as a club. Points deduction doesn't go remotely far enough, and even relegation to the Championship (or even as low down as League Two) would just be a case of them flying up the divisions until they're right back in the Premier League title picture.

A guilty verdict means ejecting the owners in a similar way to Abramovich at Chelsea, fining them an amount at least equivalent to all of the prize and TV money they've benefitted from, stripping them of everything they've won, and ousting them from the Premier League, forcing them to go begging to the Football League, National League, etc. for a place somewhere in the pyramid.

The one punishment that should be enforced, to ensure that all clubs cooperate in the future, is to bar City from the Premier League for one season for each season that they've refused to cooperate for. Most industries require cooperation with the regulator to ensure that companies don't just ignore rules. City have managed to string this out precisely because they're not cooperating, whereas Everton have been punished because they have. And if City refuse to follow Championship rules, that's one season barred from the Championship for each season that they refuse to cooperate. And so on.

This doesn't need to be personal, targeting City specifically. It should severely penalise rule and especially regulator ignorers.

Is there any precedence for stripping a club of what they have won?

There may well be one coming with Leicester’s massive breach over the last 3 seasons and FA Cup win. Asterix?

I believe the breach is going to be an order of magnitude 4 to 5 times of the Everton breach.

With proven match fixing yes.
But this City scenario is a different kettle of fish.

It's so different that we have people talking about a scale of a small fine through to being kicked out of leagues and having their owners banned!

Oh yea definitely, it's interesting how important this is
