City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with 130 FFP breaches | Hearing begins 16th Sep 2024 | Concluded 9th Dec 2024 - Awaiting outcome

Pep Guardiola wants Manchester City's first matches of next season to be postponed - but fears the Premier League are not interested in helping ease the burden on their players.

Guardiola said City had asked for the delay because of the club's involvement with the Club World Cup, but said the Premier League would not accept the request.

The final of the 32-team event is set for 13 July at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, creating a gap of either four or five weeks to the start of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

Three of those weeks will be mandatory rest periods for the players.

"The Premier League has not allowed us to postpone the first two games for our recovery," said Guardiola. "Thank you so much.

"I think the club asked the league to postpone one or two or three weeks so we can have a holiday after the [Club] World Cup but it is absolutely not allowed. The Premier League say yes to us? No. Absolutely not."

However, after talking to officials at City and the Premier League, the BBC has learned there has been no formal request.

Don't forget the EFL season starts a week earlier Pep!

What happens to the Commonwealth Stadium when they are all over?

Any plans been put forward? KFC? Parking? UKs biggest SafeStore?
It's has been planned to be the main Morgue site for any type of mass casualty event in Manchester. If you ever see chinook helicopters landing there then some VERY serious shit has gone down.

Jokes have always been made that the City ground was chosen as the "lack of atmosphere" would help preserve the bodies!

I think a total expulsion from the league is the only fair outcome - City "joined" an organisation called the premier league and then systematically broke th rules of that organisation for years and actively fought against investigations once found out.

I've seen a few people "count up" respective trophies being re-allocated to United or Liverpool in this period but other clubs would surely claim that their results against City be declared null and void. City must have inflicted some heavy defeats on teams that resulted in them getting relegated...missing out on Europe...Champions league etc.

I think the tables should stand but City get the trophy and title revoked. No Trophies in UK or European football and a permanent mark against the club as it starts it's way back in whatever level of the football pyramid is willing to accept them (if any).

Any updates on this?

Case finished but we at waiting for a verdict in early 2025?
Case is not close to finished, they said a minimum of 10 weeks probably closer to around 14, so will likely be finished near Christmas. No idea how long before results though.

They really are without shame, I used to think the scousers had a monopoly on it but these deluded twats have taken it to another level, and the less said about their knuckle dragging fanbase the better..

They remind me of people who hack Call of Duty lobbies and win games by ridiculous margins because they're using aimbot, godmode and damage hacks.

They then gloat about the win whilst conveniently ignoring the fact that they cheated to obtain it, even though deep down they know it doesn't really count for anything. Just sad, insecure, pathetic individuals.

12-1 odds to get relegated at the bookies.
It should be massive odds on.
Kind of worrying that even bookies aren’t giving shorter odds.
Surely it’s obvious they have actually broken every rule in the book regarding finances?
Please let’s not have city getting away with this, because the game is already gone

There is absolutely zero chance they will get relegated. Will be total points deduction per charge split over the years of the charges made (think it was 2008-2015? So 7 years) so if they get a 70 point fine split 7 times, meaning for the next 7 season they start on -10 points.

I’m wondering if should I start looking for another sport to watch in case this goes in City’s favour. Now is a good time too as United are shitting the bed most games they play.

Non-league football is the way forward. Plenty of clubs to choose from and the crowds are decent craic for the main part, even if the football is sometimes not the best.

You’re probably right. The passion to want to play the game is there to see at the lower levels. Cheaper to go to. I started watching footy at lower level and it was great fun. It’s all about who you go with and the odd moment of brilliance or absurdity.
It doesnt help me now though as I’m in Southern California.

Fair enough, I thought after I'd typed the suggestions is useless if you live in certain locations. Is there any equivalent in the states? Maybe College level? The crowds for College "Football" look brilliant.

Don’t jump out of the frying pan into the fire….
You might find City in the non-league soon!!

Hopefully they go in at a level where it's regional, and I won't see them at the local ground I usually visit

Going to be a long process isn't it.

I still think it would've been better for transparency and trust in the game if this had been a public hearing.

Surely just a way to get a load of bet money in, knowing that expulsion is the most likely outcome which would technically not be a relegation?
That's what I was gonna say. I don't think they can actually be relegated to League One, but they can be expelled from the PL - I'm sure bookies would use that as a technicality to not pay out.

I can't remember anything even close to the stress of watching that game on a laptop. I'd expected nothing of QPR at all, yet when they equalised onwards, I was an utter warm pulsating mess.

I still curse a mate who texted "can't believe City have gifted us it" at about 90mins. Absolute clown!
But the time after that Aguero goal stood still, just pure stressy horror and then started thinking about work the next day.
When Aguero scored i kicked the kitchen counter where the TV is on and snapped it and broke a metatarsal in my foot broke the TV aswell and wasnt able to finish my sunday roast probably one of worst moments of my life

We don't know exactly how this will pan out but I'd be amazed if they did it the way you lay out above.

Sadly yeah, I'd expect a decision around February which is complete mess for the state of the league. Imagine City have played team a twice and team b once. Get docked like 100 points. We have the awkward situation of a City team on holiday potentially deciding CL, UEFA, Relegation places etc... The skeptic in me thinks we might not get the result till the season ends to avoid said scenario.

Nor for me obviously but for the PL the best result if City are guilty would be someone else (Liverpool or Arsenal winning the league on the pitch) and all relegation and Europe being sorted with the exception of moving City based on the punishment.

They are tremendous fun but I find it hard to get into the American football, despite having lived here for ages.
They have plenty of less popular sports that may interest me though. And at nearby universities.

What about other American sports, like baseball, basketball, and (ice) hockey?

Never in a million years will they apportion punishment per season.

If for no other reason than City would no doubt rather a 200 point deduction in one season. Get relegated, then promoted. Then challenge again.

Is this the same case as the 115 charges?

Edit: nothing to do with it.

This is probably good for us in all fairness. Shit for smaller teams, but good for the likes of United.

The end of the beginning for the premier league.

Its credibility is on its knees.
