Christian Pulisic

No. Why would he go there over us. I swear we like to hate our own club
If it’s up to him, I agree that United is the better option. But a couple of things. First, Chelsea don’t want him to go to a perceived rival (if they have watched us this season, no chance of that, but still). Secondly, Pulisic is best as a LW, or as a 10. We currently have Rashford, Sancho, Martial as LWs and Bruno as a 10. I suppose you could play him as RW (same with Sancho and Rashford). Is there a guarantee he is in the first 11 every week? I don’t know.

He is no doubt in the first 11 for Newcastle and in a World Cup year, that is important to him.

meh being at newcastle or united is pretty much no change on his world cup positioning. As long as he is healthy he will be a starter. If anything being in a situation where he wont be out there 90 plus minutes every single game could keep him better refreshed and healthy going into the world cup Could see him being a good player who can play pretty much across all the attacking positions for united. Dont think we see any chance of martial as a LW this year, he is pretty much only striker we have that somewhat wants to be here. But who knows really depends on the fee. If we can get pulisic on the cheap would be a perfect addition to attack. Young, versatile, premier league experienced.

He, along with Sancho, would be very good ball progressors in the final third. Plus, his workrate is outstanding.

He’s played false 9 a bit for Chelsea and looked pretty good at it.

I would like to see him at United, but I think it’s a long shot.

this is a no fuking brainer for United to take him on loan....he's been a united fan since a kid and he's very good on the ball plus we are in desperate need of attacking options and he's proven he can play and score in the premier league

agree with comment though about adding another right footed winger....we still badly need a left footed attacker

Yeah we definitely lack a quality left foot attacker

I was only half listening to the Athletic podcast this morning when I very loudly shouted "oh for fecks sake" in the office after hearing we were in for Perisic...

I don't see Pulisic as an improvement on anything you currently have so it would be a weird one for him. Issue with him is that he needs consistent playing time to improve but is always getting injured just as he starts to play regularly. His main strength, his dribbling, is also a non factor a lot of the time as his first touch is absolutely horrendous, which often leaves him stretching to retain possession and losing the ball/falling over.

There is a player in there, but I don't think at the level a Chelsea or Utd need.

Really? I think he will be a big improvement over Rashford and Elanga!

Why can’t we work on more than one deal at a time, surely some of the current players know fellow players that want to come. Would be a better shout than the current way we are going about finding targets.

We clearly are.

There’s lots of discussions going on getting feelers of who would be interested 110% that is going on.

They're all pretty much the same for me, perhaps I'm overrating Rashford a bit. The Elanga I saw some of towards the end of last season looked pretty decent no? Grouping Sancho in there aswell as I think he's also better from the left, where Pulisic would likely play.

Didn't Tuchel play him all the time at Dortmund? How come he dosen't rate the Chelsea version, too many injuries?

I always thought the turning point was him doing his hamstring during FA cup final v Arsenal. He ended that season very strongly but hasn't been the same since.

Still he needs to be playing before world cup so can see him going somewhere before window closes.

It's funny you say this, as my perception is that he can be almost unplayable at his best, but has fitness issues that make Jonesy at ours look reliable.

In his 3 years at Chelsea he's had about...5 good games? I just don't know why you would get him in when you have Sancho who is younger, less injury prone and better than him playing in the same position. Feel free to take him off us by the way.

It was. We don't know if post-lockdown Pulisic was just a run of good form, or if the injury really took its toll on him. Since then he's performed well here and there (Liverpool FA Cup Final, Madrid H+A in 2021 stick out) but has been mostly disappointing other than that. He has a tendency to score the hard chances but miss the easy ones, last season in the big cup games he had the chances but missed them all. Margins and all that. He could very well go to another side and everything goes for him.

You’re both right — even as terrible as our wingers are at the moment, Pulisic is more of a sideways move than an upgrade. I’d say it’s similar to the Sergino Dest links to replace Dalot

At Chelsea he needs to be clear of defenders to shoot at goal. He does not pull the trigger in a crowd. He often gets way to close to the keeper and his shot is blocked. He dribbles well in traffic but rarely has the end product. The really weird thing is he is a different player for the USMNT. Takes shots in a crowd at the right distance from the keeper to have good angles. I think the difference is the CBs he is facing in CONCACAF vs the PL. I think his game is much better suited to Italy.

I don't mind him as a loan option with a buy clause if we wanted to, he's talented but hasn't fulfilled it yet.

Zero point loaning someone if we couldnt then make the move permanent.

Yeah hasn't been right since that injury, only reason for preferring Ziyech is that he's a RW which is what we need

Because Elanga is just bad. Enough said.

Do you really need Pulisic? I mean you have Sancho already and I cannot see how he is an upgrade. I have seen them both for years at Dortmund, and IMO Sancho was by far superior.

Interestingly both players have been trending downwards already at Dortmund before they were sold. Pretty well timed transfers by Dortmund...

Sancho is just overrated. Don’t think he was ever as good as people made out. Going to take something of a miracle for him to turn it around considering how shocking he’s been for over a year yet people on here were calling Nunez a dud before he even played a competitive game for them.

After Sancho and Rashford our other wide forwards are Elanga, Amad and Pellestri. Anyone of them is fine as a fourth choice but not as 3rd too much of a drop in quality.

We have players who have had better seasons than Pulisic has ever produced who the Caf now thinks are “shite”

Everybody looks terrible when the team has completely collapsed.

He’s rubbish. He dribbles about a lot but he has no end product at all. Chokes every important chance he get. Just not a player I admire at all. If ETH likes him then I suppose I’m on board though. Barely. Marketing department will love having a yank.

How have you all missed that he may come in a swap for Harry Maguire ?

Harry Maguire for nothing is good, getting any player in exchange would be really good business.

Chelsea eye a SHOCK swoop for struggling Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire | Daily Mail Online

If Harry Maguire for nothing was good, then why would a club like Chelsea be eyeing him? No matter how strong views you have about a player, it pays to note these basic reality checks.

However, I'm increasingly leaning towards the view that Maguire should be moved out in this window. Not because I think he's as bad as some around here think, but because it looks clearer and clearer that he's not going to be able to make it work here because he's a bad fit, because of the horrible confidence hangover from last season and because he's been painted into a corner with the captaincy - can't bench him without destroying his confidence, can't really handle being played as captain. Unless it turns around very quickly it's time to pull the plug, and unfortunately we don't have the luxury of waiting to see how that pans out, or we're stuck with the results until January.

Also, if there was ever a squad that needed addition through subtraction, it's this one. Maguire and Ronaldo would make for a good start - one disgruntled superstar leader, one captain. That would create space for a new team identity to grow into.

So let him come to us, work on his game, his fitness.. then go back to Chelsea. No thanks.

Might be worth having him for a season as a stop-gap then go for Anthony next Summer for a more reasonable fee.
