I get that he can’t run any more but what infuriated me today was the number of times he got the ball, his body shape was all wrong and he passed it back to a CB without thinking, despite a better player getting it in the half turn and moving it forward.
We could not progress through CM at all and he was a major cause of that:
Could add Casemiro to that comment as well.

Probably his worst game for United this season, not sure was it the formation change that didn't suit him or the Ipswich midfield had too much energy and movement for him.

He was poor today but so far this season he’s been one of the better players. It doesn’t help when Casemiro is next to him . Need more legs alongside him
That's not going to work under Ruben. The build-up in this system is not through the middle but with the combination of the players on either the left or the right hand side. He doesn't have the legs to work in this system; neither does Casemiro. We need someone who is young, good defensively and decent on the ball alongside Ugarte to work in this system. I would be surprised if he gets appearances in the League games from here on barring an injury crisis.

It always confuses me of why Eriksen and Bruno couldn't be switched. I don't buy reasoning that Eriksen will circulate the ball better than Bruno. Bruno has proven that he's capable of playing CM, and Eriksen is more than capable of playing as a 10. Bruno has the leg/energy, and Eriksen has a vision of a 10.

He will not work in this system. Neither will Casemiro
This system requires legs from him that he doesn't have.
Guys it's not this system that needs legs. Or "modern" football.

It's all midfield set ups since the dawn of time. Midfielders have to be able to cover the ground. Or at the very least 50% of your midfield needs to.
Marwood is in the right here. It was very clear yesterday that Casemiro/Eriksen receiving a pass was a pressing trigger for Ipswich, and they were bloody effective at that. There is no system thst would've made them look good against this kind of opponent in an away game. But we know that for what, 2 years already?

Eriksen had an off game, was probably a wrong choice to go with him over Ugarte.

He was poor yesterday, and therefore he is finished. Again. Despite being one of the best players in the squad this season. He is still a 10 though and not a 6/8. How difficult can it be to get that right?

If Amorin is serious about using this season to learn the system for next season, then any start that we give Eriksen is a complete waste of time.

He shouldn't be here next season. Any game he starts, is valuable minutes someone else could be learning that role who'll be here next season. He should be used off the bench and as last resort starter for rotation only.

The only position he should be playing at this point is #10, but he hasn’t been used there at all. Good player who deserves to be managed better

Not at all up to it as one of the two midfielders in the new system.

Phased out / option as one of the 10s should be him for the next 6 months until he leaves

I think the reason is that its been a while since Eriksen had the end product Bruno has, so hes never got much of a look in for the number 10 role instead of Bruno

I dont think either of them have the team responsibility mindedness to play in our DM roles without leaving us short when teams break with 3 or 4 players. And pretty much every team manages that against us

Eriksen rarely played as a 10 for us, so of course his end product is never great.

If we insist of using Eriksen as CM, RVN used him right when he only subbed in Eriksen during the end of games, when opponents were tired.

He didnt play as a 10 before he signed either. At Brentofrd he was in a midfield 3

It’s hilarious. Denmark sometimes play the exact same formation as Amorim. Look at the game against Spain. 3-4-3, that’s basically a 3-4-2-1. Højlund or Dolberg as the lone striker and Eriksen and Grønbæk/Isaksen behind. Then 2 wingbacks and Højbjerg and Hjulmand in CM. The philosophy is the same with a striker and a more classic 10 and an inverted winger that is more dynamic and can dribble.

The funny thing is in our last game against Serbia our new manager tried playing Eriksen in the same position that we do. In a CM2 with Højbjerg. And we played one of our worst halves of football in a long time. Then Yussuf Poulsen got injured and our manager decided to put Nørgaard in. He is a defensive midfielder next to Højbjerg and we moved Eriksen further forward and suddenly we looked ten times better.

What i’m trying to say is that Eriksen needs to be backup for Bruno in one of the two positions behind the striker. In some games he would even be able to play next to bruno. He should never be in a CM2.

Tottenham 4:3 Man Utd New
Decent first half, but must shoot better

Some really good moments in the first half, and then he faded until he was subbed. Essentially does the right thing by shooting hard and low on his chances, but he has to clear the first man.

I do wonder why Amorim hasn’t played him more, given that he actually started the season quite well. Especially considering we play with two 10’s. Maybe it’s simply his lack of physical attributes.

I think it was inexecusable to not score at least once from the 2 positions he got in.

The 2nd one on replay is worse than it looked initially too. He has to bury that chance.

This guy used to be a number 10? Two almost identical guilt-edge chances that he failed even reach the keeper with. Don't renew his contract.

He had a fairly good first half (although perhaps could have done better with his shots), but he was the main reason Spurs completely overran us at the start of the second half. He just couldn't physically cope and they were running off him and past him way too easily.

We need someone like him, but with athletism.
We needed this in Ten Hag's second summer, the fact that he was allowed to spend £60m on Mount for a role that Mejbri could have played is one of the reasons why we are where we are and he, back in Holland, unemployed and with his reputation in tatters.

He was very good when in possession of the ball, however out of possession he was atrocious and those 2 shots were limp.

It was like playing with 10 men he didn't even get close to a Spurs player to attempt a tackle having made 0 tackles before going off.

He really is starting to look his age, but he also has quite a few games under his belt as a senior player: 750+ games.

It's a pity we never got him when he was younger I still recall that game where he played against England when he was 18 or 19 years old and stole the show.

Strange choice for this game, if you want to play him at OT against a smaller European side or in the League cup it's fine.

Doesn't have it anymore to be starting these sort of games.

Thought he looked really good in the first half bar his shooting. Faded badly in the second.
Would be so important to get a younger version of him. A player that is able to control the game and find passes.

Yeah it’d be insane to start him in the league cup!

Goal.com thinks he was Uniteds best player yesterday, but in here he was mostly just decent and too easy to overrun. He was easily our best player in the first half, though he probably should have scored on the second cutback. The first 20 minutes of the second half was a collective disaster. Everyone looked like school yard players. That goes for Christian too.
