His injury history alone is to much of a risk in my opinion and he also has spells where he completely disappears out of games.
Not this season, no. He’s running the show for Brentford nearly every game in a way very few players are able to do.
His injury history isn’t that worrying tbh. It’s his illness that truly set him back so if that’s under control I don’t see why he’d be more of a risk than others - if he can play most games until summer without major injuries.

It is beyond me, that neither EtH nor Amorim still has not played him at 10 with better runners in midfield. The argument that he faded in Tottenham is false. Mourinho didn´t play him, much because he was going (Mou has stated that). Before that, he was playing most of the season before Mou with an injury. Conte did not play with a 10 at Inter, so he ended up playing him in a flat three. Frank gave him a lot of freedom to play between the lines at Brentford, which turned out very good. He can play in CM but only with Ugarte, and it is NOT his best position. He is much better in the last third as you saw in his little cameo on thursday. It was against the worst team in the PL, but you can only show your class, when given the minutes to do so. There is the pressing argument that goes against him in the Amorim system, but then again. Chips like that one and more goals (yes. He scores more, when played at 10) should compensate for that. He has no problem going for 90 minutes for Denmark and he didn´t have any in the beginning of this season either, when EtH played him all the time.

The old wily fox. What an assist. That’s the perfect way to use him. Carroll ended his time as a consistent starter, but he still has magic.

Our only top notch passer. With our static and not very creative way of playing it surprises me he does not get more minutes.

Amorim obviously doesn't rate him, and he's not the future. However, we are currently lacking players like him. If it were up to me, I'd play Ugarte and Collyer behind him, allowing them to do the running for him. This way, Eriksen can still do his magic and contribute a lot.

You don’t remember him in the team against Newcastle? The way we used him against Southampton was ideal, he should be nowhere near Premier League central midfields now. We could play him as a 10 but it wouldn’t work with Bruno there and we need 10s who can press.

You could move Bruno in to midfield and take Mainoo out of the firing line, then have Eriksen in the 10.

He had a good game in that more advanced role. Nothing incredible but some nice touches and created a few things.

For me he’s a joy to watch. Would be nice if we found someone similar but 7/8 years younger. Will require a big fee obviously.

Also got a great assist vs Southampton for our first goal. Could be useful still from time to time over next 4 months.

We notably lost a lot of control in the midfield when he went off. There where also several times Bruno was visibly frustrated after he went off. Those two together have a understanding of movement and passing that our squad is completely lacking otherwise.

It's a low bar but he's probably the most professional guy at the club. You rarely see him half-assing it or not putting himself around despite his physical limitations, he's kind of like Juan Mata in that regard. There is quite a difference between him and Casemiro, he isn't just collecting a cheque.

It's a shame that the modern game has become so attritional and so tactical that mindless runners are ultimately more useful than a player who is nothing short of world class technically.

If Eriksen had prime KdBs mobility and running power, he'd have been a true global superstar....but he doesn't...and his lack of pace, power and stamina makes him a luxury that we can often ill-afford.

Still arguably the best technician in our squad.

In a game like that, having someone whose technical level is way way above anyone on the opposition team is really beneficial.

Him and Bruno are really the only two United players who can pass the ball at the level you need from a decent Premier League footballer. Maybe Martinez on a good day. Which is astonishing but it’s a big factor in why we’re in such deep shit. Throw in a couple of the worst number 9’s in the league and a comedy goalkeeper and it really isn’t a mystery why we’re bottom half of the league.

We will obviously let him go in the summer but I think there are a handful of games he might be useful in. Glad he started today. I hope somehow against all odds we can go all the way and give him a European cup as a sendoff.

Luke Shaw too if he was ever actually fit, so I suppose he doesn't count.

I loved the role he played today and linked up really well with Amad in occasions.

Too bad his legs are gone, as he’s our by far got the best vision and the best passer in the team

The younger version of him would suffice in the modern midfield role that looks like an amalgam of an #8 and a #10. Two-footed, great vision and good balance to stave off defenders and gain the extra second needed to find the pass he wants. I discuss football with many people, the fixation with runners and physical beasts is a Caf thing, and it goes back to the later days of SAF. Age catches up with everyone eventually, even KdB and Bernardo the other day looked worse for wear without the superhuman Rodri behind them.

I don't think so, unfortunately...I think in the modern game it's vital that the majority of your team are world class athletes.

That doesn't mean you can't get away with the odd shorter, scrawny bloke...but they will most likely have to play CM in some kind of three man midfield and be an absolute genius on the ball.

World class athlete can also mean slightly different things...you don't need XI 6ft 3" players and you don't need XI who can run 100m in 10.8 seconds...but you can't have slow CBs, slow CMs, lightweight forwards and a bloke who's 5ft 8" at CB

If he was three years younger, he'd probably be our best outfield player alongside Bruno and Diallo. He certainly has at least as much football intelligence and technical ability. He's been a superb player throughout his career, and a super professional - shame we got him too late.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's the type to play late into his thirties. Maybe he'll do a stint in Holland or Denmark.

He seems to have a decent understanding with Bruno and Amad. It's a shame we don't have more players with his qualities on the ball.

There is such a visible difference in fluidity of our passing between lines when Bruno and Christian play together. The way they understand each other and see the play is something I love watching. To have people think that either of the two is the biggest issue in this squad is...funny

Yeah and look how well Amad links with the two of them, yet rarely anyone else. Game recognises game.

I actually this he could still be a good team player for us as a bench option. To come on if needed with 20-30 minutes left.
He is still a real professional and a great representative for any club. Never seems to complain no matter what. He just does his job to the best of his ability.

No love here? Thought he was outstanding. Feel like when he’s on song he links us together.

We need to target midfielders with his passing ability. Surround him with other ballers who can play 1 touch football and watch us win games.

I'd give him a contract on reduced terms if we make it into europe next season. He can't hack it in the prem anymore but looks a level above in europe.

Classy player, his vision, awareness and passing accuracy is something else. I'd be sad to see him go.

I'd personally keep him for another season.

The guy can really help grabbing an assist or to dictate some play.

Watching him play deeper made me realise that we might need someone like him once in a while but it's not going to be easy to find someone else either.

Age is not that important in the modern game anyway. Although not every player is like this.

He was very good. He’s not cutting it in a proper two-way game anymore but when the opposition is sitting back he’s still invaluable. Came alive in the second half when we’ve decided to switch to quick one-touch passing.

Until we get a player of this profile, we will never be able to control a game.

We’ve needed that for centuries. Tired of hoping for it, honestly. We always go for muscle, tackling , box to box or goals instead.

We’ve always bought players who tick one box. We need someone who can pass, athletic and do basics tackles. Rare players but big clubs have those profiles in their ranks, we don’t.

If only Eriksen and Coly could fuse.

Hes a great passer of the ball but has 0 physicality, burst of pace or energy and thats not enough. We have quite a few players who have one good attribute but fall down in far too many other important ones.
