Chido Obi Martin

U18 player written off.... The CAF never fails to entertain
Seriously, I came on here thinking their may be a positive update or a few comments celebrating his goals for the U-18s instead I see a dumpster fire.

His performances for our youth teams.

He doesn’t stand out particularly and comes across as being freakishly big for his age, which he will lose in the coming years as the other, smaller boys also become young men.

If he was that good, he’d be playing every game for the u21s and doing well, and he isn’t. Generational talents, that some people seem to be insinuating that he might be, don’t really play youth football because they’re too good and this lad doesn’t even come close to that level of talent.

And the essentially said the above - he’ll fall away as he starts to play with people equally as strong or stronger than him. He’ll be a footballer but just not at a competitive United
Who are these generational talents that don't play youth football? Greenwood, Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Pogba, Ravel have all played extensively at U18 level. Don't think anyone is arguing Chido's a bigger talent than those players. Rooney's was arguably one of the greatest teenagers of all time and he played FAYC.
Yeah. Kind of my point, although it seems posters are going to have a go at me for wanting to drop a player at the age of 17, which is categorically not what I mean.

We, as fans, and as a United collective tend to massively over-hype any of our youngsters and I just thought I’d add my two pennies worth.

Hope I’m wrong but he’s got a long way to go
How is merely giving a player an opportunity overhyping him? Used to see loads of people giving out about Pogba not doing the business at youth level (depite his obvious talent) but praising the likes of Ryan Tunnicliffe. Pogba likely just found it too easy so wasn't fully engaged/challenged. Of course there's a gulf between 18s football and senior but he essentially became the highest U18s scorer ever as a 16 year old. He's scored 10 goals against a Liverpool team (albeit at a lower level). He's not a run of the mill academy striker and he's clearly a high level finisher. I admit I haven't watched him extensively but I just don't see the risk. He's not a defender whereby a poor performance could end up with a glut of goals conceded. The senior strikers are misfiring and we as a club should be giving chances to youth that are shining. Doesn't even necessarily have to be Chido. Would be just as happy seeing Ibragimov, Biancheri or one of the other youth standouts getting a chance though its clearly less risky to give a forward a chance than a defender like Godwill or even Amass.

Well we haven’t had academy games for a while. He’s averaging a goal every 47 minutes for the U18s. Seven goals and one assist in seven games.

He’s been good but there’s a lot of room for improvement in his overall game. As expected, he just turned 17.

We’ll learn more when he starts getting regular minutes with the U21s.
Thanks for the info.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

We do all want to believe we've got a future Balon D'Or winner in our ranks, but sometimes it's important to realise the chances of him actually even breaking into the first team and becoming a regular goalscorer in the PL are so slim.

That goes for any youth player.
I can't believe you've thanked him for the most generic baseline opinion that he got off of his mate. Anyone using the term "generational talent" should be automatically be banned from the Caf, it just makes people sound really stupid.

He's not even that big for a start, people make out like he's a 16 year old Lukaku but I think his size has been massively overstated, yeah he's a big lad but his game isn't about physically dominating anyone, not from what we've seen so far at least.

Im going to make a controversial call on this kid.

He won’t get close to making it at United.
You should keep your opinions to yourself considering in your follow up post you basically say you just got this take off your mate.

Seen him live at Old Trafford for a 15 minute cameo and also see a few bits and bobs. Wasn't impressed with his attitude around the field when warming up he just stood still talking to the other lads putting in the real effort.

I always look at stuff like that, spotted it with Zirskee in the first training video as well and I spotted it in Januzaj body language around the field back in the day. Bags of ability but a shitty lazy attitude.

Well I didn’t say that but if that’s your take on what I’ve said, so be it.

Time will tell. How I’m wrong

Seriously none of us should be giving any comment. Amorim and the players will know how good is he during training sessions. If he is able give De Ligt or Mazroaui trouble with his movement and pace means he is ready to be throw into the deep. If Amorim decides to put him on the bench, I would assume that he is more or less ready for the games.

Let's write him off then, because you weren't happy with his warm up.

I would say januzi, greenwood and possibly rashford are adverts of what overexposure too soon can do

Behave, Rashford’s one of the clubs top scorers of all time and getting early exposure didn’t turn Greenwood into a violent offender. He’s banging in goals for Marseille and would be ranking them up for us still if he had any decency as a human.

I'm not doubting their quality, just their behaviour

Whatever one thinks of Greenwood and what he did or did not do, he is a generational talent but wont reach his full potential due to what happened.

He just won Ligue 1 player of the month and is the current joint top scorer with 11 goals in 17 games, he also has 4 assists.

He has only just turned 23 and that year out of football may prolong his career as he doesn't have many miles on him. He might just reach his potential if he continues.

And for those comparing him to Macheda - Macheda was scoring goals for fun at U21-level. And he came on as a sub in a side that was functioning really well, filled with experienced players.

You can't really compare it!

This is a piece from Ferguson and how he viewed things like this, albeit speaking about midfielders in this instance.

Tonight is the first time I’ve watched the kid and been really impressed. His goal scoring of course is outstanding but his link up today has been amazing too

Second for him in this game. Just give him all of Hojlunds minutes this season. It can't be any worse.

You do all realise he's playing for the U18s!! He's not even in the 21s - at least let him beast the 21s before the wankfest really starts!!
A good judge of talent can spot a player with immense talent no matter who the opposition is. Greenwood, Mainoo, Garnacho all stood out to me as outstanding talents in U18 football and barely played any games for the 21’s before being fast tracked. Same seems to be happening with Kukonki and no doubt will with Chido when the time is right

Wankfest is well underway for me. Rooney was 16 on debut.

Tbh I was also trying to imply it's not that insightful of an opinion.

Did very well there but look at his frame compared to most of the other players on the pitch. If he can carry that ability as he matures against other fully grown men, then that'll be good for his development.
Fair enough, it just gets boring reading it in every single youth thread with the original poster thinking they're some kind of Nostradamus for saying it as if we don't all know it.

Did we just see yoro get toasted recently?
Yoro didn't get roasted because of his age, defenders have their bogey opponents and Yoro won't meet too many forwards trickier than Sulemena. People have been talking about his dribbling since his time in Nordjaeland and he chose last night to put in an absolute worldie and thankfully his end product was really quite poor. He'd have done the same with De Ligt and Martinez were they in that position.

Experience will teach him not to be in that position!

All the big clubs were after Chido. His goal record is amazing, and he definitely looks like a player. Just give him some time and he will grow even more.

What i meant by not reaching his full potential, I meant by not in the running for Ballon Dors and staring on the big stage for England, he will probably never play international football for England again.
