Chido Obi Martin

What is actually happening with him? everything's gone quiet, not included or announced on the Man Utd website

Will be to do with the compensation for training him due to Arsenal won't it?

It's also been reported that every transfer like this - where the youngster turns down a contract and signs elsewhere - is examined by the FA (or whoever?) to check there was no tapping up or anything and that the signing was valid.

So until that's ratified, which can take a while, the transfer isn't officially completed.

I was just about to ask if we'd actually signed him yet, feels like months ago when we got a here we go from Romano.

Does he have to be signed today?
I thought we had signed him.

And that what we're waiting for is the FA to analyse the deal to check there wasn't anything like tapping up on our part. That apparently happens every time a youngster turns down a deal at their club and opts to move elsewhere.

It's seemingly just being sensationalised because it's a highly rated player moving between Arsenal and United - so getting more press coverage than most youth deals.

Just saw our registered list of players and thought of Obi-Martin. Does anyone here know what's happening with this deal?

The talk during the summer was we agreed to have him as a 3rd striker. Has he actually joined or has the deal fallen through?

Players under a certain age don’t need to be registered

It's done, just still waiting on the PL approval.

There was an extensive list of under 21s and he wasn't on it, whereas Kone was.

I don't remember the deal ever being confirmed

Apparently all done regarding the PL investigation. So announcement should be any day now.

Finally! Certainly took long enough. I'm assuming he wouldn't be fit enough to play for the u-21s on Tuesday?

He has been selected by Denmark for the upcoming international break, so he is fit but I doubt he's completely 'match fit' yet. Might see him next week maybe.

Well he has to start somewhere, I suppose. So maybe on the bench? Even tonight or tomorrow? Considering this has just been waiting for the ratification I’m sure he’s already settled in Manchester and all that.

Good stuff, seems like the process takes too long but got there in the end! Look forward to seeing him play.

Looking forward to labelling him as complete shite after a couple of sub appearances.

Oh cool. Might try to catch their games if they are being telecast anywhere.

Yeah. I was unsure if he would even make the bench. Excited to see him and Kone play for the u-21s.

In my opinion, Kone has a bigger battle on his hands as our midfield has been our strongest area for the u-21s so far this season. Gore, Fletcher, Devaney were all good in that Doncaster game whereas Wheatley was gash. Definitely his poorest game I've seen.

Isn’t Kone 18 and Obi 16? I would perhaps expect to see Obi start at u18 just to dampen expectations and let him get to know some of his age group as well, and then fluctuate a bit between u21/u18 depending on how it goes?

He has been playing with 16 and 17 year olds at international level, not scoring a goal a game there, so I don’t see the inevitability of him spending some time there still. Maybe he’ll be playing in the FA Youth Cup as well?

With a fear of being branded too positive by some people here - surely this must go down as one of the strongest group of players we have ever had at this level. I mean the class of 92 will never be repeated - I will go so far as to say it's impossible to get that in todays football. But this group of players could easily be remembered as the 2nd best.

The team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2011 had the possibility of being a great generation - but unfortunately I doubt we will ever see so many huge talents, failing to reach their potential as that group of players
Imo - only Sam Johnstone really lived up to his potential - Lingard showed glimpses for 2-3 seasons, Pogba was Pogba, W.Keane was too injured, M.Keane was an Everton-regular but has hardly played for 2 years, and the less said about Ravel the better
