He's a poacher, plain and simple. His all round game is atrocious. Always has been. Even when he was in top form, he still was pretty dreadful in the build up play. But no-one cared because he'd score goals.
LVG clearly likes to play as a team where players are constantly involved in every phase of the attack. Hernandez has one of the worst first touches I have seen at the club, it's truly pitiful. Can't pass more than 5 yards, can't cross, no vision. All he could ever do was finish, and right now his confidence is so low he can't even do that. Essentially making him useless on the pitch.
He's a nice genuine lad, who by all accounts everyone likes. I wish him well for the future, but he has no place playing for Manchester United. He just isn't rounded enough in my opinion. In my defence, this isn't a knee jerk assessment. I have never been a fan of his play and voiced that from his first season. Which was never a very popular opinion. He scored some good goals for the club and was an asset off the bench under Fergie's system, but for me, he was never going to make the grade as a starter. His goal scoring proficiency masked some deep flaws in his game. Hopefully Wilson will take his place, a prospect which I am delighted about. He's the real deal.
All Hernandez can do now is be a sport and move to Juve as a makeweight in the Vidal deal. Don't care what we get for him, just need him to facilitate that transfer if possible. Sounds like we are using him as a piece of meat but I'm sure the Old Lady will take care of him. People have said, even this summer, that we should get at least 15M for him. Would you pay 15M for him? If United needed a striker would you be happy if the club spent that much on Chicharito? I know I wouldn't. Anything over 10M, incentives based on success and a sell on clause, and we should be biting their hand off. There is no world in which Welbeck should leave the club before Chicharito.
Not to sound cruel but purely from a footballing perspective, hopefully that is the last time we'll see him in a United shirt. My heart genuinely sinks when I see his name on the team sheet. Sorry Little Pea, this isn't coming from a place of hate, just a place of realism. There can be no sentimentality in football.
