Chelsea vs. Manchester United

Why? we have to play our strongest team, no time for rotation at the moment and the last game was nearly a week ago so the players have had their rest. I'm a big fan of Hernandez but think Welbeck should start with Hernandez then coming on.

I can understand that and I've been one to bemoan dropping in form players, despite their status, but Hernandez goal record against Chelsea is rather impressive but I wouldn't be unhappy to see Danny start

Hernandez has a good record against Chelsea, and they have a slow centre-back pairing, it's not a bad shout. Would not be surprised if Welbeck was asked to put a shift in on the wing with Valencia's form, to help Rafael deal with Hazard and play Rooney off Hernandez up top.

I hope to god we don't play Giggs in this one. Carrick and Fletcher, if he's deemed physically prepared for it.

He seemed to think Moyes might want to protect him in such an intense game and that he's struggled against big strong fullbacks before (and thinks he could do against Ivanovic). He reckons if Rooney is back he will play in behind Welbeck with Valencia on the right then it's either Kagawa or Januzaj on the left and he just said he expected Moyes to go for Kagawa's experience and protect Adnan, and depending on how the game pans out maybe introduce Januzaj later.

It's hard not to see where he is coming from to a certain extent but I can't help thinking that Januzaj is ballsy and confident enough not to be phased. He gives us an attacking impetus that gives the opposition something to think about rather than us just 'dealing' with their attacking threats.

If Rooney isn't fit it's hard to see who else will play though so injury might force Moyes hand. Moyes has handled him really well so far so I'm quite sure he will do what is best. Bringing him off the bench against tiring fullbacks wouldn't be the worst thing in the world either if we were still in the game.

Exactly so, and even if Januzaj isn't threatening the Chelsea goal directly there is a far greater greater chance of him creating space for somebody else. I'd also doubt that Kagawa would appreciate being hustled out of things on the left wing, which is before you get to the significant detail of Shinji being somewhat average when not played centrally.

I suppose i would make the case for a three man midfield mitigating the need for Valencia, certainly whilst his offensive qualities are...misfiring to the ext seen of late.

Ultimately Moyes has few attacking minded players in decent form at this moment and can ill afford to be leaving half of them on the bench.

Let's get this one straight, he is useless defensively too, as demonstrated just as much as his attacking ineptitude of late.

I feel quite confident about this one to be honest. I know I have no right to but I just feel, to use the cliche, "the form book goes out the window for fixtures like these".

Im expecting a game of two halves, for the lads to give 110% and for football to be the ultimate winner. It'll be a great advert for the Premiership.

Both our teams have produced some slow and terribly dull and annoying football this season. It will be the premiership equivalent of the 'Go Compare' adverts.

Think even if jones, young and Rooney are fit for this it's too big a game to bring them straight back in.

Chelsea's centre backs are big and strong and will dominate in the air but they aren't very quick so I would like to see us play quick, technical players as they might cause some bother.

Fletcher must play to give us a chance of competing in midfield and we need Carrick to help shield the back 4 from Oscar and Hazard.

Back 5 picks itself due to form and injuries.

Would like to see:

DDG
Rafael - Smalling - Vidic - Evra
Fletcher - Carrick
Januzaj - Kagawa - Welbeck
Hernandez

With the 3 behind Hernandez given some licence to roam and most importantly to get forward in support.

Think in reality Valencia will play at the expense of Hernandez and Rooney will play in place of Kagawa if he is even half fit.

Hernandez does play very well against Chelsea so i'd certainly be happy with him starting.

You just know that Sideshow Bob will score a header, or a peno against us. He annoys the hell out of me.

Don't call results as a rule, but wouldn't it be like this mental season (and I don't mean just us), to go there and get a point? Or be the team to take down Jose's home record?

We'll get mullered now...

If WBA can go there and almost win then so can we, or so I keep telling myself.I remember feeling negative last season and we were leading 2-0 in no time and so if we can get a grip early on then it's quite possible we can get a result.Should we concede early then it will be a very difficult task to get a point, nevermind three. The players will need to be positive and this is another big test of Moyes ability to make progress as our manager.A positive result on Sunday and I reckon we can be more positive about our chances of 4th place.

Gonna miss the game because I'm at work

Kagawa behind Chicharito, Janujaz on the left.

Rooney, if fit, can be on the bench till late on

Bastards at work want to keep me until 4.30 on Sunday  might have to try and force them to do a 3.30.

A win is basically out of the question, a point would be fantastic right now. If we're lucky enough we can get a draw, Chelsea might miss all their chances. We need a big performance from De Gea.

DDG always puts in top performances these days. At least we will be treated to the two best Goalkeepers in the league facing off!

So pessimistic :nono:

I understand people not wanting to get their hopes up about winning on Sunday, I can even understand thinking a win is pretty unlikely. But saying it is out of the question, intimating that a draw is as much as we can even hope for, strikes me as very strange. I cant believe so many people feel that way. Anything is possible in football and we are still Manchester United. Beating them would hardly be an upset of biblical proportions. One day Chelsea's record will come to an end and who better to end it than us? When would we be more dangerous than when we have been backed into a corner like now, when people are writing us off? I believe in the character of the squad and I believe they can rise to this occasion, knowing it would give everyone such a lift. They must be desperate to put all the shit that has happened in the last couple of months right and beating Chelsea is the best start they can make to that end.

Same team, formation and style as that Swansea second half please.

-----------------De Ge-------------------
Rafael-----Vidic-----Smalling----Evra
-----------Carrick-----Fletcher--------
Valencia-------Kagawa-------Januzaj
----------------Welbeck----------------

A win is never out of the question in sport.

Well, of course. It's just that the probability of it is minuscule so it's not worth getting our hopes up. It's best to expect the worst; it's very, very, very unlikely that we'll end Mourinho's unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge in the league.

It's unlikely but not as much as you're making out. You acting like it's a league 2 side going to Stamford Bridge.

There's no need to feel too pessimistic.

I don't think United are anywhere near as bad as their current standing suggests and at a certain point they'll bounce back and go on a winning run.

I just hope, it will happen after they play us at the Bridge.

West Brom almost ended Chelsea's home run for goodness sake, so there's no point thinking this is some epic team we're against here. It's not City at home, and it's not Chelsea circa 03-05.

It'd be hilarious if out of the blue Moyesy pulled off an unexpected result in a GOOD way :p

Thank feck nobody takes that attitude at the games. It's so pessimistic they'd be singing Chelsea songs.

Knowing Manchester United quite a lot now, I think both Rooney and Van Persie will be ready for this match...

Moyes doing it in SAF's way? Who wants to bet? :p
