Chelsea vs. Manchester United

Slim chance of Rooney, no chance of RvP being back.

Wasn't this holiday for Rooney with the intention of getting him back for the Chelsea game? I wouldn't be surprised if RVP started on the bench, as Moyes was quick to downplay the "up to 6 weeks" rubbish from the Daily Mail.

Even if they were both miraculously fit for the game, they'll be rusty, so probably shouldn't start them both

I thought RVP was definitely out for our game?

Im not sure what I would rather, the system you played yesterday in thre second half with Kagawa/Januzaj without Rooney, or a rusty Rooney but with Kagawa/Januzaj benched or re-arranged.

United to win or lose by an odd goal. I dont think we'll be getting trounced by 3 or 4 goals. This could be a kind of backs to the wall win that United produce and (hopefully) end that run at SB that Mourinho has.

Doesn't matter how well we play, the ref will always make sure that Chelsea don't lose.

I'm trying to stay optimistic, but this is Jose's Chelsea, so I just can't see us winning. Everything will go their way.

I'd usually say "I'll take the draw", but really that is no good for us what so ever. Both Everton and Tottenham should realistically win their games, so we'll just be chasing them even more. A win is what we need. Sadly, its what Chelsea need as well.

Big game for us.

Jose's never lost at home in the PL. Moyes has never won at Stamford Bridge.

Can't see anything other than a Chelsea win.

If Rooney is only 75/80... hell possibly even 90% fit I don't think he should play. I might be wrong, but I always find him to be well below his best when he's not fully fit... though I'm sure someone will pull out a list of games to prove me wrong.

Comfortable Chelsea win, we'd do well to keep to keep the score down. In fact I'd be delighted if we lost 1-0.
I think this week could be massive for Moyes.

Lots of records have been broken this season..... but then again we arent yet back up at the right level so Chelsea win i think.

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Vidic Evra
Carrick Fletcher
Januzaj Rooney Kagawa
Welbeck

You would play Kagawa on the left despite the stark drop-off in performance when deployed there?

And if you were to start him up top at the expense of Welbeck or Hernandez, then there has to be an expectation that Rooney is sharp enough to put away the few opportunities we create [Is that likely, fair even?].

What about the players, though, who are the ones who have to do it on the pitch? Most of the United players have won there, and Terry et al have lost there.

I'm sorry, but that's a ridiculous comment.

I don't care how bad we've been playing this season, we can beat anyone on our day and I have never been 'delighted' to see United lose, anything, ever.

I think we should play 4-3-3 due to Chelsea's midfield strength through middle (Willian, Lampard) and dangerous penetrative forwards who cut in as much as possible (Oscar, Hazard, Mata). Their flanks seem weak and overly exposed so maybe we can create something from our overlapping fullbacks- Rafael and Evra who will be key to success I feel.

Prediction: Boring 1-1 draw. Jones 2nd min

It's been a long time since I've expected a win against United. Can't see anything other than a win for us as we are in quite good form and our home record is very good still. I imagine it'll be Hazard, Oscar and likely Willian over Schurlle for his defensive work.

Could not can, could. It's time to be realistic. It doesn't matter that we're Manchester United, we're a limited team at the moment, no point burying heads in the sand about it.

If RVP and Rooney are both missing the sheer gulf in class between the two starting XIs is going to be the largest it has ever been between Chelsea and United.
Depressing.

We're going to get creamed.

The only way it could get worse is if Abramovich arranges to have Atkinson ref.

First impressions can be deceiving you know. For if they were both available Moyes would probably elect to start 4-4-2 with RVP and Rooney treading on each other's toes, combine that with a weaker midfield and their class would count for naught in the face of the wider tactical situation.

Many i do believe, thought much the same before Fletch's header saw us beat them 1-0 at OT.

I wouldn't shout from the rooftops of London of a win being a certainty or anything, yet if the players show the same commitment as they did against Arsenal and Welbeck's scoring form continues the form book be damned.

I'd be leaning towards a 1-1 at this moment however. lol

Obviously we are in a position where we need wins but at the end of the day, I still think a point is fine here. They have an amazing record at home, without RVP and Rooney fit and playing together, I can't see us winning there at the moment. So, I would take a point and a good performance.

I think you lot can manage a point here. I hope so anyway.

Would love three points here, as otherwise 4th spot is likely to be every further away. Though realistically Chelsea will win this, with an outside chance of a draw. Hope the boys can pull of an upset

Getting the win would be amazing, ending Mourinho's home record is exactly the kind of thing that could turn our season around and buy Moyes some breathing space after the recent less desirable records we have broken. I dont think it is beyond us at all either, these are the kinds of games the players should be highly motivated for anyway. Obviously a draw would be a great result but I wouldnt settle for it now, we should go all out for the win, at this stage we havent got a huge amount to lose but a massive amount to gain if it galvanises morale and shuts everyone up about how long we should wait before we sack Moyes.

I can see us getting completely dominated in midfield and their more createive players will cause serious damage if they are given space / time on the ball. Best we can hope for is to hit them on the break.

Bollocks, we can still beat anybody on our day (and not theirs).

We beat Arsenal, who are most people's pick for the best team so far this season, and we showed how well we can play in Leverkusen. But that's not even relevant - I don't know if you've seen football, but one things that's clear is that pretty much any team can beat any other team on the right day.

On the one hand Moysey has never won away against a top 4 team, and on the other Mourinho never loses at home.

Also, the chosen one will have a point to prove for being passed over, so I think we're getting nothing at the bridge.
