Chelsea vs. Manchester United

Chelsea will score a goal for every time a United fan spells Adnan's name "Janujaz" in this thread.

It's written in the stars..Beat Chelsea. End Jose's home record. The papers full of "Moyes is the man" headlines...

Then, we go and lose 2-0 to Cardiff at home the following week. You just know thats what will happen

:lol: at the chump saying he'd be delighted with a 1-0 defeat!!

We're Man Utd for fudge sake, not some relegation fodder!

Gary seems to think there's a good chance Adnan won't play.
I hope he does.

Betfair currently has us as 1.84 to win. I dont think I have seen us have odds worse than Evens for a very long time.

I'm not convinced though, I think it could easily be a draw.

Stop trying to be so humble!

I understand Neville when he says Januzaj may not start if Rooney is fit. I agree that he's struggled vs powerful right backs but the problem is that if he doesn't start it's rather Kagawa or Januzaj unless Young has recovered.
If Young is fit I think Young will start.

Young might not be the worst option I suppose. He'll track back and protect Evra. With Valencia undoubtedly starting on the other wing protecting Rafael.

Defensive manager, shaggy.

Our best bet is to set up to contain and hit on the counter IMO.

Have Carrick and Fletcher/Jones in midfield with Rooney playing that CM/AM role, 2 quick wingers and Welbeck up top. Keep it tight and hit on the break.

I agree. We've got to play on the counter. Young was filled with confidence before the injury, not sure now. But I don't think Rooney will be fit so I'm expecting Januzaj or Kagawa to start regardless.

Kagawa in the number 10 would probably be the next best thing in that case. If we play Welbeck and Hernandez then we're screwed.

The theory is sound enough, the implementation on the other hand could be a problem if those wingers are Valencia and Young. Of the two Young has the edge as i think we'd want our wide players to have some competence at shooting or running at defences [otherwise i've got this vision of us crossing a high ball into an isolated forward surrounded by blue shirts all game].

Unless Rooney is on top line Moyes should go with our two form attackers and Poaching Pea.

Don't like Hernandez starting games. Especially games like this.

I kinda get what you mean. Look, if we started with 2 strikers and Hernandez was in the poacher role, then fair enough, the lad is always capable of getting you a goal, or two but he seems to end up leading the line, every time he plays, which just does not work. He isn't very good at it.

He needs to be playing on the shoulder, running on to through balls or in the box finishing off crosses.

What he should never be doing is trying to hold up play or be a creative outlet. His first touch is abysmal, its like throwing a bowling ball at a trampoline.

Hernandez always scores against Chelsea... Their defenders can't handle his movement.

1-0 United. Darren Fletcher with a looping header from the right edge of the 6 yard box, over Cech. In the 31st minute.

There's a well known saying that I think is applicable here:

Lightening always strikes twice. Yup...

I agree with you, what was Gary's reasoning in this case?

He seemed to think Moyes might want to protect him in such an intense game and that he's struggled against big strong fullbacks before (and thinks he could do against Ivanovic). He reckons if Rooney is back he will play in behind Welbeck with Valencia on the right then it's either Kagawa or Januzaj on the left and he just said he expected Moyes to go for Kagawa's experience and protect Adnan, and depending on how the game pans out maybe introduce Januzaj later.

It's hard not to see where he is coming from to a certain extent but I can't help thinking that Januzaj is ballsy and confident enough not to be phased. He gives us an attacking impetus that gives the opposition something to think about rather than us just 'dealing' with their attacking threats.

If Rooney isn't fit it's hard to see who else will play though so injury might force Moyes hand. Moyes has handled him really well so far so I'm quite sure he will do what is best. Bringing him off the bench against tiring fullbacks wouldn't be the worst thing in the world either if we were still in the game.

The reasoning makes sense if Young was fit or if Danny was played out left, but I am not sure doing it and playing Kagawa out left would work any better than Januzaj, for me Adnan is the more confident and demanding of the two and would be less likely to disappear out there.

Ivanovic is out injured till the end of the month. It'll be Azpilicueta on the right for Chelsea.

A draw would be a great result... Chelsea, by hook or by crook, don't lose at the Bridge under Jose.

Well records are there to be broken. How many have been shattered at Old Trafford this season, by sides who aren't anything special?

I should probably lower my expectations (story of the season?) but I hope we go for it.

I feel quite confident about this one to be honest. I know I have no right to but I just feel, to use the cliche, "the form book goes out the window for fixtures like these".

Im expecting a game of two halves, for the lads to give 110% and for football to be the ultimate winner. It'll be a great advert for the Premiership.

Surprised not many mentioning Hernandez.. anyway I'd like to see..
DDG
Rafael Evans Smalling Evra
Carrick Fletcher Jones
Rooney Adnan

It's Mourinho's Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The form book is behind 10 inches of bullet proof glass, it's not going out any window.

I'm expecting a performance but I don't think it'll be enough to get a result. Chelsea will win in their usual soul-destroying, machine-like fashion.

As long as our defence is on top form, I'm feeling good about it. Not to say that I think we'll win, but a draw would be a decent result for us considering it's Jose at Stamford Bridge.

Can see us going for the counter attacking approach. Welbeck and Valencia are nailed on starters for this one I think. No matter how inconsistent Valencia has been this season, his pace will be vital. He also usually performs vs Cashley, so hopefully he'll rip him a new one.

De Gea

Rafael
Vidic
Smalling
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Fletcher
Januzaj

Rooney
Welbeck

If Rooney's not fit, then I'd squeeze Cleverley in the middle as well, or Jones if he's 100%. Not sure if this is the game for Kagawa.

Cleverley should be no where near the starting 11 at the moment, he's been a big let down in previous games where he could have stepped up to the mark.

See that is what we once had at United. Teams feeling like they were beaten before they even got on the bus. Or at least the feeling that a point is the best they could hope for.

I dare to dream. As LR7 said above, records are there to be broken. And what better way to get our season back on track? After the season we've had, the players owe it to Moyes and to us. That is why I reckon we will do it.
