Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

If he plans (and thats a big If) on 4-3-3, then Mata/Kagawa would be used as the creative force.

LVGs opinion of a 4-3-3 is a single pivot with 2 attacking players. So he may plan on playing 2 of Rooney, Kagawa, Mata in these positions with a new signing as the holding player. Problem is he believes Strootman to be the best in that position and he's not fit till the new year.

As for signings, that would mean he is looking at a centre half and potentially 2 wingers.

Fwiw, i dont think he is certain to play 4-3-3.
I think that's a big risk to wait until January atleast, and even then I doubt Roma will sell, unless we bid a huge amount. We need somebody this summer as Carrick / Clev / Fletcher / Jones / Fellaini is just not strong enough

Wow, the Emirates would be fuming if true. Him going to Chelsea would be similar to Ronaldo going to Liverpool... actually, worse since Ronaldo wasn't ever the club captain.

And spare a thought for that Peter guy that's been telling us non stop it's a done deal....

I don't understand what's so utterly embarrassing about us not making a bid.
Well I said if we are interested in Fabregas and want to sign him it is embarassing that within a day Chelsea have lost a top class midfielder and lodged a bid for a top class replacement. Weve lost two world class defenders and are in desperate need of a top class midfielder or three and have made no official bids. Thats if reports are to be believed which seem to have accelerated very quickly within the last day or so. So if that is true and were missing out, despite wanting him, id consider that utterly embarassing for Woodward and co.

I dont disagree with that but i think there is a high chance it will happen.

Wouldnt surprise me if we end up with Hummels, Shaw, and Konoplyanka.

Him going to Chelsea would be brilliant just for the Arsenal reactions.

And to be honest I'd much rather they got Fabregas than Koke!

Looks like he may end up at Chelsea. I'll be very disappointed if we don't at least make an approach for him.

It would be epic. Alastair and Pete's meltdown would be the stuff of caf legends.

And yep, I'd prefer Koke too over Cesc, although I think we've got no chance of signing him this summer.

After how we got played around by him last summer, its probably not a bad idea to stay away from him.

After how we got played around last summer I'd imagine that we intend to only show interest when someone else has officially bid or had a bid accepted.

That's a lot of 'ifs' mate!

The inner child says Mourinho dumped a flair player like Mata, slagged off Hazard and turned Willian into a runabout.

He's also won a lot of trophies.

Players like that, contrary to popular belief. It's why your players keep leaving for City.

I'd like it to happen just so I could see his breakdown to be honest.

This is closest to the truth... 'Catalan language paper L’Esportiu also report that Darren Dein has met with Arsene Wenger in recent weeks, but highlight the stumbling block of Barcelona being unwilling to release the player for anything less than €40m, a price Arsenal won’t match'... (buyback is 36 euros).
That doesn't make any sense. If the buyback is 36 euros (I'll assume you meant million here), then how would Barca be able to hold out for €40mil from Arsenal?

I think Fabregas would be a great signing if we hadn't got Mata.
A midfield three like this would work well imo.

--------------Carvalho
--------------------Strootman
----------Fabregas

You guys really prefer Koké? If we're just talking about ability here and not taking age into consideration I still think Cesc is the better player. Seems he'll be far cheaper too.

Koke can play in more positions, so could be more useful.

The prices are set for Spanish teams, Teams outside La Liga have to pay the buyout plus tax unless the club doesn't mind the fee.

Yep, not only do I prefer Koke but I think he is exactly the kind of player we need. But I am sure he isn't leaving Atletico, but Chelsea getting another midfielder would reduce their chances of getting Koke. I want Koke to develop further and I want to follow his progress, so I would absolutely hate it if he ended up at Chelsea.

Good post, makes sense to me, can't understand why Wenger isn't trying to get Hernandez to be honest, would you take Song back as the DM?

Song was a box to box midfielder so he would be competing with Ramsey. Having said that I wouldn't be upset if he was brought back, though I'd prefer a few other players above him.

I'm not sure if he's developed enough (at all?) since leaving us, and when he was here he had suspect positioning. So I would be hesitant to use him as a DM.

Thats incorrect.
The buyout of a players contract is the price a player would have to pay to buy out his contract, and has no real bearing on his market value, in the event of it being a figure a "buying" club is willing to pay, they pay the buyout on the players behalf.

A release clause is different, it is a price that the club agrees that once is met they have to allow the player to talk to the club which has met the clause.

I honestly don't mind Chelsea so it'd be great to see him go to them instead of Arsenal, the fans would be livid  But their starting XI next year will be ridiculous if they get all their targets.

The point is the Arsenal fans on here think the buyout relates to them, ie they have a set buyout price that only they can use.

There's no way his buyout price for Spanish teams is €36m, either, I wouldn't imagine.

Surely Koke will end up at Barca though?

He hasn't. Same old Song, so depends whether you were happy with him at Arsenal.

Yeah his buyout clause is €200m.

if reasons given on the caf are anything to go by it is because;

LVG will get the best out of Tom Cleverley (hard to type that and keep a straight face) so we don't need him.

He can't play with Mata as too similar you know so we would avoid the Ronaldo/Bale drama that ruined Reals season!?

He is too slow, we need pace.

or my favorite

He is not the type of midfielder United need.

You do realize the abundant abuse you will receive once he signs for Chelsea, right? You'll never hear the end of it and you will leave this forum traumatised.

Wrong thread I know, but as we're on the subject of the renties, the Evening Standard, which used to be a newspaper, is reporting that Jose is trying to sign Pogba.
