fabregas doesnt have iniestas dribbling technique

In term of role he can replace him, not in term of level or style.

Xavi's role is very rigid, you need an architect to play there, Iniesta can't really play like Xavi that doesn't mean that he is a lesser player.
But Iniesta's role is more free, you don't need a typical player, you just need a very good creative player.

Dont think unite or arsenal will buy him. I wont be surprised if brendan forgets lallana and tries to do a deal for cesc. Every one in the current top 4 is stocked with players in his position. With us, LVG wont want him, he already has too many behind the striker players. He doesnt really fit anywhere, but he wont be a bad player for anyone. Strange situation with him.
What in the name of good god would Cesc Fabregas want to go to Liverpool for?

I think we need a DM as well but we played Hleb-Flamini-Fabregas-Rosicky as a midfield 4 for much of the 2007-08 season, none of whom were at the time regarded for their defensive capabilities bar Flamini who still played a B2B role that season in my eyes.

We could, in theory at the very least play a 4 of Fabregas-Wilshere-Ramsey-Ozil.
Fabregas wide right? Good waste of a central midfielder then. Buying him and playing him wide right is semi-retarded.

Fabregas signing for us again? (Surely not him failing to sign for Man Utd, that's fait accompli).
Yeah, I know there's no way he's coming to United... but then a crazy voice in the back of my head reminds me that I thought there was no way Wenger would let us have RVP. Still, it won't happen.

I think he'll go to Arsenal but, as I felt last summer, it won't be solving Arsenals main issues. Ozil is a fantastic player, but he wasn't what Arsenal needed last summer. I think Fabregas is the same.

To be honest I can only see him sign for Arsenal. Apparently LVG doesn't fancy him because of age and lack of defensive discipline, so I don't see a point in getting exciting about this one.

the idea that we wouldn't want him is most odd.

But, let's see how Van Gaal plans to play things come August.
Not in the pre season fretting.

Age? What, being 27, bang on perfect age?

In his prime. Most likely not going to get any better and not much of a resale value.
I personally think he is exactly what we need. Plus a more "Yaya" type midfielder.

In a three man midfield we know he can perform the role of most advanced midfielder but with Mata, Rooney and Kagawa it's not a position we need.

How is he in a box to box role, supporting both attack and defence? Does he provide the balance LvG likes so much, or will he be too attack focused?

where xavi trumps fabregas and pretty much everyone else, is in his ball retention and decision to pass. Fabregas i agree would probably attempt too many risqué type passes that would not meet the target.

Fabregas is still a damn good player and better than most.

Yep, we need players in their prime! And although I hate these fans who dismiss £30m as if it's nothing, for someone like Fabregas, ie, top midfielder here in his last 2 years, it's a good buy.

i agree. If you had him and mata in the same team, it would be problematic. him, mata and kagawa is asking for trouble.

Is it only me who thinks he could play well in a centre mid 2 alongside a mobile defensive player? And with Rooney always dropping deep, it wouldn't be a problem?

i would bracket fabregas with modric and verratti lets say. They do more risky things, whether it is a pass or a turn in defense. Xavi is the ultimate perfectionist. He does not take risks. He wont do something dangerous in his own half, he wont make a pass that isnt 100% certain of hitting the bulls eye.

Which is precisely why we would want to build a healthy midfield so that we don't get overrun and let our attackers spend their time upfront.

Wilshere Ramsey
Cesc Ozil
Walcott Benzema

I can't see that working even if you managed to get hold of Cesc and Benzema. You're already weak definsevely in midfield. You've got too many similar players who all want to play the number 10 role.

As for Cesc it would be great of we could get hold of him, but i just don't see it happening we will have way to feck this one up as well.

Unless they play like peps barca, wherein they hunt like wolves together, fabregas doesnt work hard enough off the ball.

he is a terrific player, but i can understand if Van Gaal doesnt rate him defensively. I would love to see him there alright. would be class. with him we would easily beat the smaller/medium teams. But in the CL when it gets tough, you have to work.

Ozil for arsenal is a good example. Brilliant against the little teams, but found wanting vs the giants. fabregas is a much better player than him though.

You're not the only one. Unless my memory fails me, Fábregas dominated Old Trafford and Bernabéu playing next to Gilberto Silva in a midfield two before he was 20. I don't see why it would be a problem now.

to be honest, i fail to see arsenal accommodating Ramsay, Wilshere, Ozil and Fabregas.

I could only see him joining them if one of the others in that quartet left.

2nd in the league, will have champions league, great strike force young team. I dont think he fits any english team right now, Liverpool are buying lallana and they might consider fabregas an option for a similar role. I am not saying he will go to them.

This signing for Arsenal would make as much sense as us signing Cavani. It's a player in a position they are best stocked for, and would be done for the romanticism rather than the practicality.

Would he sign for any other English club, besides Arsenal? City loves Arsenal players, even if he is a former one. United tried for him last summer to no avail.

I'm sure he feels very indebted to Arsenal for starting him out at such a young age and developing him into one of the best CMs in the world (before he went to Barca and ruined this), but I feel that if the big guns who have been pulling in the trophies over the past couple of years ie. Us, City and Chelsea, then I can easily see him choosing one of those 3 over Arsenal, especially as he would be needed more at these clubs than Arsenal too.
