Chelsea reach agreement to sign Cesc Fábregas

The question for him may be who has a better chance of winning the league next season - do Arsenal actually have a better chance than United? Consider that he would walk into our team with little competition (not the case at other clubs) filling in our biggest problem area to then play behind Rooney and Van Persie.

I still think he'll go to Arsenal, it's like if Ronaldo became available. Wenger would make space and can always get rid of Arteta, Rosicky, and that Swedish bloke they signed. He also would not want Fabregas playing elsewhere when he wants to challenge for the title though I concede the Van Persie saga shows the opposite but maybe he's learnt from that given that it 'gave' us the league.

The difference is this year we have a new Puma sponsorship deal which I believe is one of the biggest deals to ever have happened! In other years it hasn't been too clear whether we have had the funds that the board has made out. This year we have and we all know it!

Wov!

Ligue 1, watch out! :D

There's some deal every year, one year its a stadium deal, the next its Puma deal..

You twats. I thought something had happened when i saw this thread bumped by almost 6 pages. Instead all i got was pointless bickering about Arsenal

Fabregas is not comfortably a better player than the Ramsey of this season. Would upgrading Ramsey to Fabregas make a bigger difference than replacing Giroud with someone like Cavani?

There's been talk that he we may actually look to play him alongside Ramsey in a more defensive role, which I think could certainly work against the majority of the bottom half of the table. Would be far too open against the bigger sides tho however there is a point to be made there. If you look at the role that Arteta plays for us, it relies on positioning, first touch and ability to think quickly all on the ball. Cesc would have to improve his defensive game slightly but so did Arteta and Fabregas is generally a much better footballer then Mikel.

We've got money to spend now (hence 50M euros on Ozil). Shopping list:

Cesc £30M
Aurier £10M
Benzema £40M
2nd keeper £10M
4th CB 10M
+ possibly Remy £10M

Were any other big sides linked? I can only remember you and PSG.
PSG from the Champions League who can blow almost everyone out of the water with wages?

And if nobody else was interested, given he was available, then why? Do they not know how good he is?

I'd bet a few others enquired, but he knew where he wanted to go. Do you think a player like Mata comes on the market and big clubs just don't consider him and allow United to have free reign?

So the plan is to buy one of the best attacking central midfielders around and play him as a defensive midfielder? Sounds foolproof.

Why not just sign, you know, a defensive midfielder?

I think fabregas is an improvement as he would keep the ball a lot better. In some big matches this year ramsey barely even touched the ball like in both matches vs Dortmund where I though he was poor although he did score in the second match against them but for me a midfielder has to do more. Its like saying xavi isn't much better than lampard. Although I agree that a new striker is much more important.

Especially when you consider the £40m they spunked on Ozil for no apparent reason the season before. You buy players you need, not treat the transfer market like a housewife in Tesco who see's that a brand of cereals are on offer so "might as well".

IF Arsenal need Fabregas it's one thing but the interest seems to be nostalgia, and little else.
No apparent reason to buy arguable the best No.10 in world football? Nostalgia to buy arguably the best creative passing CM on the planet? Arsene's lost his marbles - should have spunked £27M on Fellaini.

Well that's what i would prefer to do if I'm being honest however I'm not the manager. Arsene has brought players before and played them in other positions see Lauren, Henry, Arshavin, Arteta and that's just the players off the top of my head. If there's a way that he can bring back one of the best midfielders to ever play for him, one of his favourites and one who he truelly feels he developed in a deal worth £30 million, knowing the man is he I think he will do it.

We're going to play 4222 or 433 if Cesc comes back, I favour the

Ramsey Wilshere
Ozil Fabregas
Walcott Benzema

Fabregas is just going to spend the summer having Silva, Azpilicueta, Mata and DDG in his ear telling him where to go. Fortunately Spain aren't taking Navas or Negredo to the WC, so we have the two ears occupied by Juan and Dave, who can fend off the advances of the other two Daves

I don't get why people keep saying "I don't see where he'd fit in at Arsenal". It's Fabregas, one of the best midfielders in the world. He walks into almost any starting line up in football.

Would love us to get him and won't rule out anything after the Van Persie and Mata signings which were by far bigger shocks. Still think he's Arsenal through and through though and if he leaves Barcelona and returns to England it'll be them.

What's the point of getting a player in a position you're already comfortable in, though? Surely it would make more sense for Arsenal to spend money on a 'world class' player in a position they really need.

It's like Mata. Great player, but surely we could have spent the 37M we spent in January for Mata, on a centre midfielder this Summer instead.

If it seemed United had a chance of re-signing Ronaldo, the first thing I would do is log onto a City forum and explain the feasibilty, likelihood and justification of said move...

Proper Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime who made this. I for one always liked Cesc in the EPL.

Chance of Fabregas coming home?

No way Wenger misses out, we could conceivably play this front 6 next season-

Martinez-Ramsey--

Walcott---Fabregas--Ozil--

--------Balotelli----

Pipe dream though. Probably only get Fabregas, Balotelli and someone like Schnedeirlin.

Wenger did say we can expect a good summer.

Absolutely no way will two former Arsenal captains end up playing for Man Utd together.

Didn't Fabregas and RVP have a bromance? Surely that along with 2 Spainish internationals could be big positives for us, not to mention I bet we could offer a much bigger wage than both City and Chelsea.
Yup. They even went on holiday together to New York. I still don't think we are getting him though. Arsenal or perhaps City is where he will play next season.

Iniesta only on the bench then? Harsh.

If be confident of getting Cesc if we had Gill as CEO.
With Woody here not so much, he has a lot to prove

This is his opportunity to shine like with the Mata deal. The ironic thing is we were one summer too early. Pity Barcelona were playing hardball last year.
