Charlie Adam | Set for talks with Liverpool

I think we'll be interested in the summer. Why else would Phelan congratulate Adam in the end and completely ignore all the other players.

Not without the artist formerly known as Ronaldo it hasn't.

It's usually (if not always) the 'journeymen' Park and Fletcher that are responsible for the utterly pathetic and embarassing performances that you lot regularly produce against us. This must really irk you.

If you lot had a few more of these, you would've won something of note in the last 5 years. As it stands, you've got a whole squad of players that possess cupboards not full of medals and trophies, but hole-ridden pillows.

Gimps.

What if we spend 10+ million on a player who can't handle the pressure? What then?

I would like to see people thoughts on Saha just before we signed, because in many ways, progress and career wise they are quite similar.
Both had notable talent from a early age but not quite lived up to it. Both found their feet in a lower league. Both had a breakout season in the PL (saha had two decent ones prior). Both performed well against us catching Fergie's eye.

A big difference between the two is the stamina/fitness issue. Saha has the athleticism of what you would expect from a player from a major club, Adams unfortunately doesn't and that's where hes get found out.

I am not suggesting we should buy him, but would not be shocked if we did. He however would be a upgrade on one or two of our midfielders.

Class, but still not champions league quality.

What's Champions league quality? Peter Crouch has been brilliant in the champions league this season, is he what you mean by champions league quality?

I presume you mean, he's not a good enough player to stand out and make a difference against the very best? Which again while playing against one of the Champions league favourites yesterday with the majority of his teammates no where near his skill level imho he stood out very well.

If he's neat and tidy on the ball, which he is. Plays progressive passes, which he did very well last night. And is a real threat from set pieces, then i'd say he could be champions league quality definately. The fact of the matter is that he's played well against the big boys this season but the only way we'll know if he can stand out while playing for a big club instead of against them (see the likes of Scott Parker, Keane, Bent) is if he joins them.

Can there be any more evidence that he would add absolutley nothing to our squad after tonight?

I'm not advocating signing him, but this is complete bollocks, he would certainly add some improvement to our set-piece delivery, only a moron would think otherwise

Saha didn't really make it with us mainly due to injuries which severely limited his playing time.

I could sign and improve our set piece delivery. It's shite.

And  @ "...only a moron would think otherwise". Top internet work.

Is that right, Ed? Is that right?

Hmm, I don't agree. So there you go. Opinions. Interesting things.

I thought to myself first half - should we be looking at him? He was up for it, playing well, a good deliver of the dead-ball, a good passer etc. You know, he played very well for those 45 but equally we played very badly. Would he thrive for us? Would he handle the pressure of the champions league? Personally he seems the type of player to grab a game by the balls at times, something we often lack when Rooney or Scholes aren't at their best.

Then, the second half came and in my mind Adams showed why he really wouldn't bring much for us in Europe - he was off the pace, he looked knackered and lost control of the game.

That's why he plays for Blackpool.

Yes, but don't forget United would knock him into shape. Our players play for 90 mins not 45.

Class, but still not champions league quality.

He's already scored twice in the Champions League. But I take your point that he probably won't be good enough to make the difference if he's only a bit-part player in a big team at the cutting edge. A bit like Van der Vaart not really cutting it at Madrid but thriving at Spurs.

I thought he was class in the first half last night but to be fair we made him look like Iniesta with the unbelievable time and space that we gave him. In the second half he to some extent ran out of steam and we also handled him much better. He reminds me lot of Andy Reid in many ways as he is not particularly athletic but given the space can pick out passes with pin point accuracy and is a dead ball expert.

I don't think he is 'top four' material though, in Europe especially teams are not going to give him the space we gave him in the first half and that is what he relies on. Decent player though but don't think he will ever become a top player.

kouroux says hes fat.....I would not say hes fat but he certainly looks a bit overweight.
Imagine if he joined us and got some serious training done, and slimmed down a few pounds he would be even better.I really think hes a good player.

He maybe unfit but his fitness is likely going to improve with better facilities. It is something that can be worked on. The passing ability is there. The only big question is is he willing to work to get himself in shape. That is always the gamble.

Was he that heavy while at Rangers or has he put on weight since coming to Blackpool? If he has always been overweight it's not likely he is going to all of a sudden take off weight if he moves to Liverpool.

So are you suggesting we sign him just because he will improve our set pieces delivery? This is not the NFL where every team has a punter whose job is only to kick the football after a team scores or during kick off.

Sweet left feet, a few passes were Schole-esque, ran the game for Blackpool and for me, and I've watched him 10++ games this season and I must admit, he is a class above the rest in Blackpool, constantly doing the pass which the opposition hates most and they also have a lot of accuracy, hits their penalties with style and for me, Blackpool evolves around this player...

Would I like him ? Well, I'd feel sorry for Blackpool if they don't get a hefty fee for him because he is that good.... But again, I was watching Pastore last night ( reply vs Brescia ) and I'd rather we spend on him ( He will be Kaka Mark II imo. )

TEAMtalk | Football | Latest Football News, Results and Fixtures - Holloway reveals Adam incentive

Motormouth manager Ian Holloway has revealed he receives a percentage of the transfer fee for any player sold by Blackpool who he has coached.

But the Seasiders boss insists this is not the reason why he and the club are holding out for a higher price for star midfielder Charlie Adam.

Agreements such as the one between Holloway and his employers do not contravene any Football Association regulations. He has so far resisted all offers for Adam and admitted the bonus he would receive for keeping the club in the Premier League, with Adam's help, would top anything he could make out of selling the Scottish playmaker.

Holloway told The Sun: "I do get rewarded with anybody I coach and make a profit on. My chairman (Karl Oyston) looked at my record of producing players and helping players and selling them on and he wanted that at Blackpool.

"That's not what I'm (resisting offers for Adam) for. I'm on a far bigger bonus to keep us in the Premier League and Charlie Adam can help me do that.

"If you're saying I'm doing this because I'm getting 20-30% of the Adam money I'll not be very happy - it's miles away, absolute nonsense.

"I bought a frustrated kid from Rangers, we bought him very wisely, and in 18 months we've gone from 16th in the Championship to 12th in the Premier League with his help."

Ends.

Interesting scenario - some saying the only reason he is blocking the move is because he wants a bigger commission on the sale of the player.

Those claims could not be further from the truth IMO. Holloway seems a decent man and there is no way his motivation for keeping Adam at the club is self centred.

I assumed it was negating the whole clause, not the percentage

I think you assumed wrong.

"I do get rewarded with anybody I coach and make a profit on.

He obviously does get a bonus for money made on transfers, just a lot less than the 20-30% of the transfer fee speculated about by the press (and also less than the bonus he would get for keeping them up in the Premier League).

He's denying that he's doing it for any personal gain full stop.

And I believe him.

No, that's not what he's saying at all.

Re-read the bit I quoted. He's denying that he's holding out for a bigger fee because of the amount he could earn, personally, but he clearly admits that he gets a bonus for developing and selling on players (albeit a lot less than the 20-30% he's read about in the press)
