Why not? Because he's not portuguese or recommended by some foreign scout? Don't tell me you can put percentages on what any player will become because its nonsence. As I said, every signing is a gamble. Some players develop early, somoe late and some not at all.
Its also daft to talk about player values when Milner and Lescott are moving for the money they are then who is to say what player is worth what?
All I'm trying to say is that the lad has done very well in a poor side filled with Championship players. He's stood out for his team and in games generally against much better opposition. Why could he not do even better in a better team? Thats the basis on which most players are signed - the hope that they'll improve in a better side hence why Arsenal are ready to shell out £10 million on a 17 year old playing in League two.
Liverpool seem to want him and he's probably been better this season that all but a handful of players in their midfield. He may not become world class (whatever that means) but he seems to work hard, has a good range of passing and is a solid player - so I can see why clubs are interested in him, especially at the figures quoted.
Its my fairly arbitrary opinion that he won't improve to that level while Bebe has a chance, but an opinion formed from watching football quite a while, seeing players develop and seeing where players often improve their games.
I can't see where Adam can improve, he already looks for the ball, he already has a nice range of passing, I doubt he can get any quicker or suddenly raise his shooting/passing game to Scholes level so I don't see where improvement is going to come from. At present he is in a side that it set up completely to take advantage of his skills, a luxury he is not good enough to have in any top team. That is why I say we are currently seeing the best of Charlie Adam.
