Charlie Adam | Set for talks with Liverpool

Why not? Because he's not portuguese or recommended by some foreign scout? Don't tell me you can put percentages on what any player will become because its nonsence. As I said, every signing is a gamble. Some players develop early, somoe late and some not at all.

Its also daft to talk about player values when Milner and Lescott are moving for the money they are then who is to say what player is worth what?

All I'm trying to say is that the lad has done very well in a poor side filled with Championship players. He's stood out for his team and in games generally against much better opposition. Why could he not do even better in a better team? Thats the basis on which most players are signed - the hope that they'll improve in a better side hence why Arsenal are ready to shell out £10 million on a 17 year old playing in League two.

Liverpool seem to want him and he's probably been better this season that all but a handful of players in their midfield. He may not become world class (whatever that means) but he seems to work hard, has a good range of passing and is a solid player - so I can see why clubs are interested in him, especially at the figures quoted.

Its my fairly arbitrary opinion that he won't improve to that level while Bebe has a chance, but an opinion formed from watching football quite a while, seeing players develop and seeing where players often improve their games.

I can't see where Adam can improve, he already looks for the ball, he already has a nice range of passing, I doubt he can get any quicker or suddenly raise his shooting/passing game to Scholes level so I don't see where improvement is going to come from. At present he is in a side that it set up completely to take advantage of his skills, a luxury he is not good enough to have in any top team. That is why I say we are currently seeing the best of Charlie Adam.

I have to say i could never have imagined this level of interest in Charlie Adams career. Le Guen liked him a lot but after that he went backwards. I really think the english game has turned it around for him. The improved fitness and the added responsiblity have improved him imeasurably.

Hmmm - continental manager likes flair player who is dumped by old school british boss for someone with a bit more steel. Highlights a common trend in British football.

Yeah but Adam is now 25 so if Gibson is to improve he needs to get first team football. United could do a lot worse than let him go to an up and coming side in the championship/lower prem to give him the platform to really push on.

Adam can be the scottish pirlo. He played in a friendly for us in that position and his ability to switch play and ping it about was a breath of fresh air. When you play a defensive/counter attacking way he can really shine and get the team on fast breaks with his pin point passing over 40/50 yards.

Gibson will be sold within a couple of seasons.

Fair enough. I also personally don't see him winning the Ballon D'or or becoming a really top player but you highlight my point exactly.

Its difficult to judge a player on anything other than current form, and on current form he's as good if not better than a lot of midfield players of that type in the PL.

Liverpool as an example need an injection of quality and confidence into an ailing midfield. Few top players will be interested, especially in January, and he's probably the best they are likely to get, especially when he's already playing over here

Whether players are a good buy depends on a lot of things, including the circumstances of the club at the time and given what they are likely to pay for him he would be a good signing.

I'm also loath to write off a player. He's young and has teh skills to be a very good player. Under the right manager and in the right system I don't see why he couldn't be dangerous for one of the better PL sides.

He'd be a great buy for Liverpool. Exactly what they need. I hope it doesn't happen. Outstanding yet again.

Yeah but made Fletch look like a sunday league player in the first, enough to assume that with a better supporting cast he really could do some damage.

Certainly could be, although United were a Sunday League team for the first 50 mins of the game.

Could also be a player who thrives on being the big fish in a small pond.

That's impossible. Fletcher can single handedly nullify Xavi and Iniesta.

Worth a punt at £6 million or similar for a lot of clubs. May also thrive in a better system.

Yeah but for 5 million or whatever he'd be a good punt for someone like Liverpool who are crying out for some quality in that area.

Sure is. If they can get him for that.

If I was in charge at Blackpool, I wouldn't sell him for that now. They will get £5m for him in the summer.

maybe we should try a punt on him. If someone like Gibson is good enough, Adam definately is.

If he could run for more than 45 minutes, I'd pay a million for him.

I only noticed him iin the second half when he waved Fletcher on for the cross to Berbatov.

Too fat. Too unfit. Not nearly good enough for United.

was the same at the weekend - Richardson (i think it was one of his two) just strolled past him into the box for a free shot and goal. Terrible tracking (or complete lack of it) from him.

I only saw the first half of our game and Charlie Adam was brilliant in that half. Did he continue his good showing in the second half as well?

i.e. hitting two corners into the box.

His highlight was nutmegging fletch and being hacked by Scholes.

Wait it was the pass that gave them the first corner, off his right foot. Now Charlie does have a good left foot but i didnt expect that from what i've always thought was his standing leg...

Not spectacular but against United he cut it and cut it fairly well. There's certainly something about Charlie these days.

I don't think we'll have sleepless nights if he went to liverpool for 10 million.

Nutmegging Fletcher & getting fouled are highlights? Right.... Fergie sign him up.

The previous poster said he created the two goals. Hence my post.

The first line was a piss take then i was serious.

The corner that they scored the first came from a terrific pass that was only just intercepted resulting in the corner which he then whipped in for Cathcart to head home. It was from his right foot.

Big. fecking. Deal.

He's a non-entity. A pre-requsite for any professional footballer is to not be carrying an extra stone in weight. He hasn't lost it after 6 years. He's not going to now.

Can there be any more evidence that he would add absolutley nothing to our squad after tonight?

Give some of our (non-fat) kids a chance intead of him.

Why the hating on Charlie? He's one of the reasons for Blackpool unexpectedly not being bottom with 10 points or so. He's a great great passer and takes great corners. Sure he might not fit our team or be good enough but he surely is good enough for the PL and makes Blackpool a cracking team who can somehow beat every team in the league on their day. We wouldn't have been 2-0 in HT, that's for sure.

Just because he's better than Gibson, doesn't make him the world class playmaker we're looking for. He's a good solid professional with a touch of skill, but to splash £8 mil on him and expect him to run games for United at CL level is pushing it a tad.

i never once said he could or should play for United. Although if Gibson gets games i might change my tune.

So we have a rangers fan amongst us, excellent.

Well I now know to not value your judgement on absolutely anything football related

What a golden ray of sunshine you are.

Errr, give a chance to a genuine prospect from our academy makes me in some way miserable? Instead of an overweight plodder sought after by Liverpool on the cheap.

Give one of our kids a chance.... that's what United do.

Who's saying we're interested. It's just some attention to a PL player who's doing well. Just because some say he's better than Gibson doesn't mean we're gonna buy him or suggesting that. It's hypothetical chatter mostly.
