Champions League Quarter Finals (3rd - 11th April)

Juve can hold their heads high. The difference was the touch; the killer touch (And CRedit where CR7 is due). Magnificent club with beautiful history. More than can be said about the shower of opportunists clinging to the flag of convenience that these days goes under the name of Manchester City.

Heysel drama, Calciopoli, ...

Been away for a few days. Can't be bothered replying to each poster so I'll just make this post. Great performance from Liverpool and I did say that they were the most dangerous team for City remaining. A a different day the ball falls differently but fair play to Pool. As a United fan I'm happy because I strongly fancy Bayern and Madrid over Liverpool and favour Barca over them to a lesser degree. Still believe a City at their best gives those teams a serious run for their money.

Heysel????? Are you kidding?!?!?!

Okay you have a point it wasn't the club but more Platini who was cheering after his goal after what happened there what bothered me. My dad decided not to watch the game after what happened there and he explained to me a little boy who was 10 back then why we didn't see the game. He also said Platini's joy when scoring was not appropiate because of the drama that had happened there before the game.

Platini had absolutely no idea what had happened!

Would be awesome if City destroys Liverpool. In any case I'll be laughing at one team.

Hopefully city will score early goal and make the game very interesting.

Several stats in our favour tonight but we’ve never beaten an English side away from home in Europe.

Fernandinho describing Liverpool as a long ball team in the presser.

Seriously, do City think they are the only team in the world that plays the ball on the ground?

City's only discernable tactic in the first game was hoofing long balls out to Sane on the left and hoping he could beat Alexander-Arnold in 1 v 1s. Unfortunately for City, Alexander-Arnold dominated Sane throughout and they didn't even manage a single shot on target. It was an attacking performance as one-dimensional as anything you'll ever see from Pulis or the like.

We do like to play it long every so often.

We do like to play it long every so often.

Only to avoid a press which is logical and it's something Guardiola has done before against Klopp in their respective Bayern and Dortmund days. It enables counter attacks and cuts out their press but even so in the first half of the game last Wednesday they played more long balls than we did.

We did Pool a big favour by beating City. City players cannot feel very confident after the weekend game. But football can sometimes be crazy but I think this tie was over with their 3rd goal.

I think this will be a total borefest with Liverpool, quite rightly, sitting back and waiting for an occasional counter.

I'd love to see City get beaten, just to make it 3 in a row, but it will probably end up with a 2-0 victory for them. Still be funny to see some heads resting in hands at the conclusion.

I think City will probably win tonight, but not by enough to get through, expect Liverpool to score, although if Salah doesn't make it City could possibly turn it around if they play out of their skins. Can't see it though, would rather City went through but in a way I keep thinking that if they lose tonight then again at Spurs on Saturday they might get an extreme case of squeaky bum.
Still a bit of a stretch to think they might collapse and throw the League away though.

A 4-1 city win would be gold. Hit liverpool's confidence, but they go through

At this point i fear a city side that managed such a comeback more than liverpool in the SF.

Interesting game this. You'd expect most teams going away with a 3-0 goal lead to completely sit back and hit the other team on the counter hoping to grab an away goal which essentially kills the tie. But with Liverpool, you'd argue their best form of defence is their attack; and if they sit back against this City side with KDB and Silva pulling the strings they'll concede for sure.
Not sure how Klopp will approach this one looking forward to it.

3-3 on aggregate by full time. Will go to penalties.

Get the beer and pizza in friends, it’s going to be a long night.

Today will be your first, then.
Whenever a team attacks MCFC hard, they seem to fall over.
You guys did so in the league at Anfield and they fell.
Then you did it again in the CL 1st leg, they lost again.
We did it to them in the Etihad, and they lost.
Now in the 2nd leg, I think you will do exactly the same, with the same result.

The problem this season is that teams have shown too much respect to MCFC and parked the bus. A team which parks the bus is what MCFC are good at beating as their poor defence is not exposed.
However, the moment their poor defence is exposed, it is easy for opponents to score.

Against most teams, you need 3-5 chances to score a goal. Against MCFC, it is conceivable that every shot on target you take, will end up in the back of their net.

They'll be playing Spurs soon and providing Poch tells his players to attack MCFC hard, I think they'll get beaten.

If LFC attack, I can't see MCFC winning today. If LFC park the bus (which I don't see them doing), then MCFC will eventually score a few goals and may win the tie.

Same as first leg I bet, all guns blazing early. High, fast pressing and try to get a goal from dispossessing high up the pitch or through counter attacking. We won't sit back, not in our nature.

I'm expecting City to line up 3-5-2 as well with them resting both Jesus and Aguero vs you guys, then switching to a 4-3-3 in the late stages bringing on Sterling, Sane (if he doesn't start LWB) and B Silva. Going to be a good game, I'm excited. I honestly think we can beat them again, no reason whatsoever we cant. If he does go 3-5-2 he's asking for trouble on that left hand side vs Salah.

Cheers.
But I don't think City will be resting any players; this is the only game of the season left where they have something to play for.

@sunama Poch had tottenham attack them high and hard in the first leg. Got shredded 4-0

Cheers.

Sorry by "with them resting both Jesus and Aguero" I meant resting them both against you guys, that's why I think it'll be 3-5-2 with both Jesus and Aguero up top against us.

That's how they played against you when they won 5-0. It was 3-5-2 so most likely they will play same formation again.

Oh believe me, I know haha. That's why I'm confident they'll play 3-5-2. I'm expecting this:

------------------Ederson-------------------
-------Otamendi Kompany Laporte--------
Walker Silva Fernandinho De Bruyne LWB
---------------Jesus Aguero----------------

Just not sure who he'll put LWB/LM. Could be Sane, but he may go Zinchenko for some more defensive cover vs Salah. Really not sure.

Off the top of my head we have drawn against Chelsea and Arsenal under Rafa. That will see us through. I don't think I will watch the game as may do a bit of work instead. Yep. My arse has gone and got a bad feeling.

Put a nappy on and get back in the game, this is no time to be bottling it.

Man up!

We've all been wondering the same thing. It's why the Sevilla game irked so many people so much, and still does i'd argue.

Just didn't turn up at all in those 2 games. We hadn't been playing that well in all honesty, but had shown some great team spirit coming back to beat Palace and Chelsea, never mind City at the weekend.

It was such a missed opportunity.

It really is amazing how much that one defeat put such a negative spin on your season and Mourinho. Around that result you’ve beaten Chelsea, City and us. You’ve also reached an FA Cup semifinal.

I guess it was the manner of the defeat more than the defeat itself?

I was just wholly pissed off after the Sevilla game due to the awful peformance we put out. No one gave a shit. Didn’t think at the time we’d carry on with the great league form.
