Champions League Quarter Finals (3rd - 11th April)

He was sent off for dissent. He doesn’t need to have been carded or have committed the foul?

Oh yes the straight red card for dissent. Probably insulted his mother. Come on, the push from him on the ref was absolutely minor and there's not a single phrase (other than racism) that should result in a straight red for anybody. Oliver just babied out. Look at his face during the situation. He's about to wet himself.

Looked a pen. He had a free head on goal taken away there. The initial header was a great leap to set up Vazquez who's open.

The ref last night is Spanish. There's so many bad decisions from mainland European refs and Oliver had a good game tonight.

I thought it was a soft penalty tbh. One of those "seen them given" types, but not stonewall whatsoever. When Benatia makes contact, the Real player has already touched the ball which is headed to Buffon's chest and is also already on his way down. I suppose it is the usual argument of whether "contact" in the box equals a foul and a penalty. I'm not sure.

It was a penalty, no doubt about that.Correct decision.
Benatia was on a yellow so he should have got a 2nd yellow and been sent off.
Feel for Juve but they honestly have no grounds for complaint.

Ronaldo showing once again why he’s the best big game player in the world...the pressure on that penalty having had to wait as long as he did, just wow.

Sucks to see a veteran/legend such as Buffon lose his cool and exit like that in his final CL. As for the penalty call, clear penalty. Madrid player had a grade-A chance to end it and got taken down. Easy chest-to-foot shot/goal it would’ve been. Not that the foul was malicious or overpowering or anything but nonetheless stopped what would have been a sure goal in all likelihood as the Madrid player had all the space in the world to connect the ball.

Then again, 3 Buffons wouldn’t have stopped that penalty anyways.
Really not that much of the pressure actually when you know you’re at Bernabeu and are still to go play half an hour against 10 man Juve with every player on a yellow card.

Football has worked so hard for referee's to be protected from being surrounded and bullied by players over the last 15 years and yet so many posts defending Buffon's blatent dissent. Go back to Sunday leauge guys.

Sorry but you don’t know the rules if you think that.

La Liga - checked
Bundesliga - checked
Premier league - checked
Serie A - checked

So one representative from each top league in semis...Who'll get the crown?

In the end, Benatia's positioning was poor and he was behind Vazquez. In today's sport going to ground in that instance is absolutely, 100% the right decision. Sucks, but it's a penalty.

But Oliver is such a tiny little pr*ck. No need to send off Buffon there, obviously it's a charged situation and he just needs to let it all calm down. He lost total control and just tried to move into his safe place in his head.

Pretty sure if put yours hands on the ref at all he has the right to send you off.

It wasn't a penalty.

Oliver has shown the world why there's no English match officials at the World Cup.

UEFA gave Oliver a CL SF to placate the FA instead. . . and look what happened.

Have a word with yourself, absolutely idiotic comment. It’s a clear penalty - the defender cannot push an attacker clean on goal. He pushes the player before touching the ball (if at all) and is hindering an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Compare it to a goalkeeper barely touching a striker clean on goal, which is always a penalty, what is the difference? None, it’s a penalty.

Good work by Oliver, the absolute worst decision would be to not make a call based on not daring since it’s so late. Shows he has balls, also shows balls by red-carding Buffon who clearly deserved it by bumping into him several times. You don’t touch the referee in an aggressive way, no matter if you’re Buffon or Di Canio.

I'm tired of this Spanish domination. I hope Madrid get hammered in the semi-finals. Doesn't matter if it's Liverpool doing it, this Spanish domination is making the game a bit of a bore (yes, I know, probably not the best time to say that after the game we just watched)

What domination? There is one Spanish team left.

So we are nearly at the point where we have a choice of either Madrid lifting a a third successive CL or Liverpool winning it.

I'm hoping badly for a Bayern vs Roma final.

Gotta love how he also sends Buffon off because just pen wasn't secure enough, so at least Real would have had another extra time against 10.
Come on man. You had every right to be pissed off last season, but juventus don't. It was a clear penalty. Benatia should have been off ages before. He should have been off for that foul(instead he sends of buffon )

@kidbob, how are you mate?

I'm fine mate! Glad City are gone to be honest. Liverpool are dangerous but not in a dominant sort of way. Can't see them outgunning Madrid, Bayern's defence should be too strong and even Roma can get at them. City were the most dangerous English side left in the competition. We seen exactly what I meant about Madrid tonight. Although Pool could definitely do it with a bit of luck (hopefully not). Full steam ahead Roma please God.

PS, I hate City and Pep and believe Messi was the reason for 90% of his success, I was laughed at for suggesting he 'failed' overall at Bayern even though he definitely did.

Anyway turned out to be quite good Quarter Finals overall don't you think? Atone point I was happy we didn't have to play one of the big guns, but now, after seeing each in action, we actually would have stood a bit of a chance at our best.

Edit: not posting at an opportune time, just been away for a few days.

Bayern barely beat Sevilla 2:1 on aggregate. Maybe Sevilla is not so bad after all.
Not really. We didn’t even show up for the second leg. We did only what we had to do and made sure nobody got booked. Sevilla never had a chance.

Would have reflected very badly on him if he’d missed that tbh.

Kane / Alli / Son absolutely torched them - in the group stages, yes - they struggle with pace and movement across the front 3 and I think Liverpool would bring that in spades. The question for me is if Liverpool could avoid being sucker punched on the break.
Spurs did that to Liverpool too but lost to Juve.

It's about being a bit clever

In all this was it / wasn't it a penalty, I'd completely missed that it was Ronaldo who also set up the chance with yet another incredible leap and knock down.

He really is the best all round player I've ever seen.

There isn't much in that contact from Benatia. Vazquez goes down to easy for me.

Madrid have to be favourites now followed by Pool, Bayern and then Roma.

Fcuking hate this Real team, constantly getting refereeing favours their way and have a bucketload of irritating players. I said a few days before they look amazing this season, hardly looks that now.

Really hope someone, whoever, knocks the crap out of them the next round and puts them out of the competition where they belong.

Not getting the ball doesn’t equal he penalty, he didn’t knock him down with his foot either. Just look at the replay from midfield view, yes there is contact but not enough for a penalty, very very soft.
Come on, I know everyone wanted Madrid to get knocked out but he jumps into his side, arm on the back, leg swinging around. He doesn't have to hammer him or hurt him, he did more then enough and it was clumsy, because he had no choice but to do something like that and hope he gets lucky and doesn't give away a penalty. He made the mistake of leaving Vazquez wide open so had to do a last ditch effort, which was fouling him. Anywhere on the pitch, any minute of the game, it's a blatant foul. It sucks, but it is what it is.

You shoud get sent off for a push on a ref no matter how minor.

But he’s old and the media decided everybody should love him. :nono:

It's an absolute penalty for me but Benatia really had no choice, If he didn't touch him Vazquez would have had a tap in so he had no other choice

Feel sorry for Juventus, great club and sorry for Buffon. Madrid will win it because no team will defend as well as they did tonight while being monsters in midfield

Today was the last chance to knock Madrid out. They're not going to get easy on any game anymore after what happened today.

Juventus didn't do that bad, but Real could have scored a couple if hadn't been for Buffon and a great defence. Real deserved to go through, then.
