Champions League Quarter Finals (3rd - 11th April)

If a player deserves a red card (any player that touches a ref deserves a red card), it doesn't matter a damn what game it is, what time in the game it is, or who it is.

Fair enough. I guess I'm just bitter about Oliver given his previous with us :D

We don’t know what Buffon said to him. Even so, you don’t push the ref. That’s just stupid and already enough for a red card. Buffon should know this.
The pen was as clear as a mountain lake after the first days of spring.

Very poetically put, but I suppose you're right.

They definitely have it in them. Would be an exhilarating two legs.

I honestly think Bayern are too strong in defense and in possession to succumb to Pool. It's why I was more afraid of City going through. They could do it but I wouldn;t fancy them against any of the remaining teams as much as I would an in form City to be honest. Don't forget that the correct ref calls in both legs would've knocked Pool out by now. Although I'm scared of the fact that there may be a 'Chelsea' type feel to the whole thing for Pool. To be honest even Roma should 'in theory' cause them a lot of problems though. Saying that let them have Madrid and let Ronnie run riot and I'll be more than happy.

was it him who sent DiMaria off?

To those who don't think it's a penalty, what is it that blinds you from something obvious? Your poor vision, lack of understanding of rules, or your hatred for Madrid?

The penalty was very soft and awarding it at 92:30 clearly shows the referee was incredibly happy to put his hat on the game. That said, pride restored, we were drubbed 3 times by the Spanish giants in the last year but we have proven we are still alive and kicking at this level. Our bads with this competition continues but we go out heads up.

Do you really think a referee wants to award a penalty in the 93rd minute? When he knows it’s soft (although clear, if that makes sense)? No way in hell! He also knows that not rewarding a clear penalty is even worse, so he shows balls - compliments to Oliver

Last 10 finals, 6 times won by Spanish teams.

Liverpool winning the CL? feck no. Real getting beaten? yes please!
Yes but this year it’s not happening. Atletico out in the groups, Barca knocked out by Roma. They haven’t struggled as much as the English teams but still haven’t been great.

Watched it again, its a pen. Its a dive but his hands were in his back.

No it is not. Clear i mean. There is a contact. But soft. If there was lukaku it would not be penalty. Because he would stay on the feet. But because lucas has 60kg he went down.

If that was Lukaku; he heads it in!
I still don't see how that was a penalty. If such a penalty was awarded against United I'd be fuming. If that sort of contact is enough then you could give about two dozen penalties in every game.
But if we got the decision, you wouldn't.

We got away with one against City

If you watch it again Benetia doesn't even kick the ball when he wraps his leg around...

It's not even a "soft" penalty

There's no doubt the refs are on their side. You don't really stand a chance. Everytime things get close the refs swing it their way again. The penalty was extremely soft. You can see Vazquez preparing to fall before the leg of Benatia comes in his direction. With the speed he was coming with from behind Vazquez had to end up falling further forward with that force. There may have been slight contact but not enough to warrant the fall that he made. He even looked around for the refs reaction. It's not acceptable for referees to ruin games in this manner. It's not a stonewall penalty. So why give it if there's some doubts? A BS call from Oliver.

Maybe he had absolutely no doubts it was a stonewall penalty having seen it from 10 metres away??

Gonna go with the player falling over already and the fact he looks as douchy as a Liverpool/City player

Ironic thing about all that is the ball was pretty much going for Vazquez gut and not at a pace he could get any power on a diving header. I think he was looking to take a touch, by which point benatia could have got around or at least Buffon could have smothered it. Definitely more chance of Vazquez missing than ronaldo from a stonewall penalty.

Could you give me the lotto numbers since you’re already predicting the future?

That's ridiculous, and you know it. Bayern would score 10 goals every game if they could.
Off course not. I know very well that we’re not as good as we used to be. We’re playing a relatively weak season. But that doesn’t change anything about our performance against Sevilla. We progressed with ease. They had about one actual opportunity to score, that’s it. It‘s a bit ridiculous that some guys on here undermine a perfectly fine performance, to feel better about their team screwing up against a clearly inferior side.

Anyone got a gif or whatever of the Correa red card challenge? Can't find it.

In terms of football, it was a fantastic spectacle. City turning it around and Juve edging through would have been perfect though.
Nah. I was gutted for Juve, obviously, but the drama was worth it. Plus, we already had one epic comeback. This soul-crushing last minute was exactly what was missing.

pen incident -1:3 ronaldo

thanks Gif

I dunno, I'm 50/50 now - take your pick, he's mad keen to go down isn't he?

On a VAR - I think you probably get it, though.

(I know that's illogical but just how I feel)

Refs not on the Spanish teams sides? My bloody arse! Chelsea were robbed against Barca to stop another repeat all English final. We were robbed against Madrid with the Nani red card. Ronaldo was at his floppy best tonight with no caution. I doubt if Juve were in that position a penalty would have been called. Do Real get the goal disallowed v Porto that we did? No bloody way.

It's stonewall. You can't just take the guy out from behind as he's preparing to leather it top bins.

Vasquez only had eyes on the ball all the time too.

Of course. Teams go through boom-bust cycles. Barcelona is in a massive transition. This Madrid team will be gutted in a year -- quite a few of their big game players are past 30.

Don't think you can argue that the past 10 years have been quite predictable. The Barcelona domination was incredible but was it enjoyable to watch for a football fan? Same goes for Madrid particularly because of how fortunate they have been in the last 4 years!

there is no reason for me to go ahead on this matter, we are out ... I think oliver is an utter twat and we all knew it before but, again, it is hot hair now. congrats to real and good luck in the semis.

I mean I get why anyone thinks it might not have been a pen. It just doesn’t look like much. But that’s not the point. If Benatia doesn’t push him ever so slightly, he might score. In a situation like this, a soft push is all it needs to make your opponent lose his balance. Which is all that matters. Benatia had no chance to get to the ball and pushed his opponent to prevent him from scoring. Always a penalty, even if some refs lack the balls to call it one in a situation like this.

This was nothing like Chelsea Barca though. Juve were lucky to have 10 on the pitch at the end, they committed 20 fouls in that game.

Clear penalty but I don't care what Buffon said, you don't just send him off like that on what's possibly his last CL game.

Giflords video...about 55 seconds in. He puts both hands in his back.

Might not be a terrible foul but he clearly nudges him and denying a goal scoring opportunity.

Soft? Maybe a little, but looks a pen.

Regardless, Buffon (same as Pep) is stupid. Decision isn't going to change and staying on the pitch gives his team a better chance

fair question

I want it to be an Oliver cock-up.

It's a bit divey & I always go against that if I can.
