Champions League Quarter Finals (3rd - 11th April)

Convinced that Athletic have finally hit the wall physically - you just can't hurry/run/chase like they have for nine months solid.

Either that or DHL have been slow in delivering the PEDs this week....

Can't believe the Roma game.

Why didn't they try to score one from the start? Never seen that approach from Barca, no matter the 1st leg result.
What was that with playing all the long balls with midgets up front against 1.90 cm defenders?

Still trying to understand what made Man Citu a serious contender for the CL to begin with

@kidbob has an answer for you :

De Brunye and Silva will have a field day. As for Ronaldo as great as he is he won't do shit without the ball. PSG? They ain't shit on City. Messi/Bayern at their best are the only ones who can stop City's top level. Best team in Europe this year overall by quite a distance.

That´s true, but Boateng has never recovered his pace after all the major injuries (in terms of length) and Hummels was never the fastest. They worked so brilliantly, because Hummels had the positioning and Boateng had the pace. Same reason why the Friedrich/Mertesacker combination worked for Germany. Now Bayern/Germany lack the Boateng pace element.

He’s had exactly two major injuries in his entire career (and one was his shoulder ...) and he certainly hasn’t lost all that much pace. He was just mismanaged boy Ancelotti. What are people talking about?

Where is FCBarca when you need him!!!

I see City scoring in the first half, then Klopp grits his teeth to players, and they score at the beginning of the 2nd half, City collapses and Liverpool wins, by scoring 3 goals in 17 minutes.
Pep in post match interview: "I'm happy with the way we played. Happy New Year."
Klopp in post match interview: "Booom!"
they scored only 2, bastards, never mindodds were great, 1/2 @50, I'm clairvoyant.
now waiting for post match interview.

I know it’s your gimmick, but Athletic is so annoying.

Would there still be more people rooting for Madrid because of Ronaldo? That’s the vibe I got in recent times. A lot of people also don’t want to go us too far ahead in regards to CL titles.

Personally Madrid because Ronaldo and I think they have a world class team and because we've only faced Real once in the last 15 years and that was a fairly cordial match. Our last two matches against Bayern made me a bit salty, especially the Rafael sending off in 2010. But Bayern, Madrid, Roma, I don't really mind who wins as long as its deserved really.

Horrible feeling Liverpool are going to win it.

I hope Madrid get them in the next round.

Klopp is going to lose another final to Bayern, it's written in the stars.

Either that, or Madrid will walk it.

Talking about destiny - Bayern have lost 3 European Cup finals to English teams.

Villa, United, Chelsea. Knowing them they'll complete the set with Liverpool.

I feel the pair of you have completely missed the point.

The 4th best team in Italy beating the best team in Spain.
The 3rd best team (potentially) beating the best team in Italy.
Liverpool have now beaten City 3 times this year.

You're complaining about the single reason that the tournament is still exciting and relevant.

Leagues and Cups are completely different things. These sets of results hark back to when the European Cup was phenomenal to watch, before the cash-grab league element was added.

Yeah, I was just thinking the fact that City, PSG, Barca and Juve all being knocked out was brilliant for the competition and football in general.

I heard De Rossi put in a Keane vs Juve performance today

He is the Italian Keane after all

But their pedigree in Europe is shit, league form doesn't and shouldn't matter much

They lost to a side that have not played in the CL KO stages since 2010 and no one on Liverpool has made a deep run in the CL before. And a Roma side who were playing in their first CL QF since 08 beat Barca tonight.

If Sevilla beat Bayern tomorrow, there would be the first time no one from semi-final has won the league?

Pep has achieved nothing of note in the CL for 7 years. Infact he shouldn't even have a a CL to his name maybe even both. The first one was won with the scandal of Stamford Bridge and the second was won with the scandal of the Bernabeu. The first one especially was crystal clear. Chelsea should've been in the final. He took over a treble winning team and didn't reach a final in 3 years. Brilliant league coach. 7 titles in 9 seasons is enough proof but the CL has been a disappointment for him I would say with the teams he's managed.

Liverpool has history though, whether that was a long time ago that they reached a similar stage or not, it's something City doesn't have.
Besides I wasn't even talking about them losing this tie but them being talked as favorite a while ago. Based on league form which we know doesn't matter that much

Sweet feck . I watched bits and pieces of the City-Liverpool match and was completely oblivious to Barca's meltdown. I wish I'd avoided the result until I watched the highlights now. I'm a fair bit more worried about the Scousers going through than I was earlier. It all seems to be opening up too nicely for them now. Let's pray to feck that they draw Real next and Ronaldo butchers them.
