Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Wasn't able to watch.

Did he over think himself into a loss again?
Indeed thought that he needed Rodri and Gundogan sitting deep to protect the back line against a lone striker. Brought Mahrez in about 60 min mark and D.Silva around 85. Left Foden, B.Silva out completely and they just looked flat.

Sterling missed one of the worst sitters you’ve ever seen, open goal from about 5 yards and he put it in Row L!

How can the teams below Juve be superior to them??
The mind boggles....

But they didn't lose points in them games, they won them. Football is 50% luck, Lyon were lucky tonight,
Crazy to say what you have really!! As I say, the mind boggles
Its crazy to say if you have not actually seen the teams play. You cant just google the standings and assume "well they must be better"

My point was very well proven as that team is now in the semi finals.

Lyon were absolute dog shit in Ligue 1 this season - they finished 7th ffs! 9 points behind 4th. Just because they somehow beat Juventus and Man City doens't mean they're a great team.
The long break they had is probably helping them.

They didn't get to finish the league though

It has been so entertaining, think there has been some arrogance and the smaller teams have stuck it to them. The big teams will not let this format continue.

Was just about to say the same thing about the bigger teams not liking it. Barcelona in particular will get their way and make sure that this isn't the format next year.

I love it, though. It's more exciting and there's a lot more on the line in 90 minutes. No pissing about with away goals either and no need for the extra game. Keep it, I say.

I don’t know where to post this, and I will try to keep it short even though I want to write an essay because I’ve had a few glasses of wine:
Because I will step on too many toes on Twitter, can those who don’t give a shite, can you please hammer city from all angles on Twitter etc.
I was sickened by the build up and commentary by BTsport, and yet city were well beaten.
But more importantly, this so called big club spent nearly a billion, bribed/tricked their way out of FFP sanctions and have the so called one of the ‘best managers in the world ‘ and yet they can’t beat the 7th best team in Ligue 1 and easily the worst team left in the champions league despite their keeper making sloppy errors to get even close to winning the competition that really matters to their oil owners.
It’s absolutely shocking. Pep is a complete fraud and I hope you all will drive this home to city and everyone else as much as possible tonight.

Madness what Pep did tonight 5 at the back, played a kid, no flair in midfield completely unforgivable

“Should have lost points” means nothing. Your posts have been baffling.

I'd love it. The end of this seasons CL has reminded me of when anyone could win and beat anyone in the 80's.
That was a far better format that led to a much more diverse set of teams winning. I much prefer this format. Keep same number of te if needed and seeded but knock out over one leg is amazing

That is a different debate than what we had my friend. You were saying Lyon was a better squad and making it sound like them besting Juve wasn’t an upset. It still was a big one, but to your credit perhaps people have been underrating Lyon because this was their best game of the tournament
I corrected myself and said in the manner in which they played and you can go check that.

The one area they are superior in though is for sure midfield.

The narrative here will be they outplayed us, they didn't. They just took 3 gifts while we literally fluffed two sitters and shit the bed as per usual.

You played in a way that handed them 3 gifts. They played in a way that didn't.

They outplayed you.

What's all this about farmers leagues? Who's even said that apart from a couple of idiots?

Don’t think CIty fancied playing Bayern
They just choked
Football is as much mental as it is physical

I wish I watched tonight's game. Ah well, I did watch (and enjoy) the Barcelona-Bayern game yesterday so I cannot complain.

Thats exactly it. People dont watch games and just go off of names rather then how teams play and perform.
But yeah, despite Juve winning the league, they weren't the best team in it....Am i right?
Crazy.

So Leipzig, PSG, Lyon and Bayern in the semis. So much for fhe farmers leagues.

“I’m proud of how the team play, we control the game, they make 3 chance and from three chance they make 3 goal, referee make decisions go against us...”

Lyon played well against City in last year group stages too.

Guardiola absolutely blew it with his tactics this evening. Paid Lyon too much respect due to last season, they had better players last season. Knew they were physical and put a workhouse team out. DeBruyne bar the one pass had an absolute stinker played high up, wasnt working for him. Guardiola took far too long to change that with his first substitution and didnt use the immense attackign talent available to him on his bench until the last 5mins and only bought one player on then rather than throw the sink at it.

Of course the errors from Sterling and Edison were inexcusable, but that would have been a get out of jail free card, they got absolutely what they deserved. The supposed best manager of all time some say was absolutely atrocious this evening with almost everything he did and I say hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

So ..

Depay (Manchester United reject)
dembele (fulham/celtic reject)
perisic (inter reject)
gnabry (gooner reject)
leipzeg - havent heard of any of their players outside of that upamecano lad.

All into the semifinals against the odds.

Maybe we should reconsider our transfer strategy this summer.

But yeah, despite Juve winning the league, they weren't the best team in it....Am i right?
Crazy.
Ask anyone who saw the Serie A season.

They won it credit to them but if they play the same next season they will 100% not win it.

See what actual Juve fans say in their forum.

I corrected myself and said in the manner in which they played and you can go check that.

The one area they are superior in though is for sure midfield.

The parallels between Juve and Barca are frightening, to say the least.

So Bayern is massive favorites now I guess. They got form and a brilliant team attack. Strong defense too.
PSG second favorites of course, but they got the attack to hurt Bayern.

I wish they could, as I love this format, but I see some obstacles, such as less games (thus less money), plus international tournaments during the summer. I hope they can find a way, though.
