Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Guardiola absolutely blew it with his tactics this evening. Paid Lyon too much respect due to last season, they had better players last season. Knew they were physical and put a workhouse team out. DeBruyne bar the one pass had an absolute stinker played high up, wasnt working for him. Guardiola took far too long to change that with his first substitution and didnt use the immense attackign talent available to him on his bench until the last 5mins and only bought one player on then rather than throw the sink at it.

Of course the errors from Sterling and Edison were inexcusable, but that would have been a get out of jail free card, they got absolutely what they deserved. The supposed best manager of all time some say was absolutely atrocious this evening with almost everything he did and I say hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
They won't criticise Pep will they, BT are looking for any reason that City were hard done to.

Ask anyone who saw the Serie A season.

They won it credit to them but if they play the same next season they will 100% not win it.

See what actual Juve fans say in their forum.

Does the Pirlo hire make you nervous? I think it's way too soon for Pirlo to be manager. Ronaldo doesn't want to waste his twilight years trying to chase CL with a coach this inexperienced.

Well that couldn’t of gone much better. Lovely couple of nights of football. And we’re the last English team left in Europe

I never said battered l. o. l

Considering you are claiming those 2 games justify your controversial opinion that the 7th placed team in Ligue 1 are better than the Champions of a better league. I would imagine you must think those games were pretty darn dominant.

Lyon will knock City out.

These posts annoy me to an unreasonable extent.

Even if you predicted the tie to go the other way, it would still be bold to state it as a certainty. Declaring that a completely mediocre Lyon side will knock City out, without as much as an "I think" or an "in my opinion" - if I weren't lazy as feck, I'd start bookmarking these

Well you know where you can stick your annoyance now. Hopefully you were not too lazy to bookmark like I did.

Got me a little bit of change too.

I wouldn’t have even brought this up, but this exchange really pissed me off, acting high and mighty as if I wasn’t entitled to think City would not win.

Bayern - Lyon was the semi final 10 years ago. Müller is the only player left that started for Bayern!

City would surely buy a striker if Aguero leaves the club. Jesus is not even as good as our front 3. Expensive flop but I guess there is some resale value. Maybe Pep will leave Barcelona and takes Jesus along with a swap deal involving Greimann.

What’s the story with Rafael theses days for Lyon? Injured or just not getting games?

Rio should be up for an Oscar ! He’s somehow managing to keep a straight face, the best performance of the night !

IMO I think its a terrible decision.

I could be wrong as we have never seen him coach in any level (thats the part that scares me) but we will see.

I hope I am wrong but I think it will end in disaster.

So ..

Depay (Manchester United reject)
dembele (fulham/celtic reject)
perisic (inter reject)
gnabry (gooner reject)
leipzeg - havent heard of any of their players outside of that upamecano lad.

All into the semifinals against the odds.

Maybe we should reconsider our transfer strategy this summer.
Not really a reject considering Celtic sold him for big money and he scored plenty of goals for them

So glad Lyon knocked them out, deserves pep right for the line up he put out, city far to arrogant and will never be good enough to win the champions league!

Guadiorla is not disciplined enough to win ucl. He won those ones he won cos of Xavi, Messi and Iniesta

If they're arguing that a miniscule touch from Dembele is a foul on Laporte then surely Walker's push on Cornet should've been a penalty?

What's all this about farmers leagues? Who's even said that apart from a couple of idiots?
Pretty much every achievement of every player not playing in the prem is commented on social media with "couldn't do that in the Premier League" or "king of farmers league".

So fair play to Mbappe on that one tbh

Imagine the De Gea thread if he'd palmed that easy ball straight out for the last goal!

Its not controversial if you have watched them.

Juve have conceded the most goals in a season since 10-11 when they finished.....In 7th place.

Only if Atalanta had won, the peace levels within me would have reached unprecedented heights.

Yesterday many people said City would rip apart Bayern defence ? City´s defence and pressing + gegenpressing looks significantly weaker

And sorry, I forgot sterling’s miss....that is the worst miss I’ve seen in the last five years easily.

Didn't seem to have any dodgy bounce, or be that fast or anything really.
We were all cursing the ball falling luckily for their man to cross it in, and an easy goal..then that!

I wish they could, as I love this format, but I see some obstacles, such as less games (thus less money), plus international tournaments during the summer. I hope they can find a way, though.

If there's potentially less money, then it most certainly will not happen. We're more likely have UEFA introducing a third leg in that case.

But yeah, despite Juve winning the league, they weren't the best team in it....Am i right?
Crazy.
They conceded the most goals they have since their last 7th place finish.

They were piss poor and its not an accident Sarri got sacked. Juve were worse then last season.

Not true but enjoy that narrative if it makes you feel better.

If you think City were the best team over the 90 mins you need to give up the sport pal. They had a good 20 mins or so in second half and that was it. Lyon miles better team. Even City fans are saying it.

They might not have been, but don't make it that City were good, they lost their nerve when the chances came.

I don't disagree. I think Lyon deserved to win as they were more clinical and made it count when it mattered but to say Lyon dominated the game or were far better than City is daft. City had plenty of chances and fluffed them up by themselves + Ederson dropped two clangers.
