Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

 Laughing at the people who thought I was crazy for saying Lyon are a better team than Juve this season. This game proves that point for me yet again.

Y'all are looking at team names rather then how both sides have actually performed and played this season Juve have some better individual players but when you see how the team collectively plays its piss poor. Yes Juve won their league title but if not for many fortunate circumstances they could have fairly easily ended in 4th this season as all of Inter, Lazio, and Atalanta were superior teams. I hope Juve make many changes next season or they are fecked.

Lyon play good effective football and their midfield was/is far superior to Juve's. Not even to mention there interchanging attacking play with there front line.

Very exciting young talents to look out for in this Lyon team. They are very dangerous on the break and play a very good pressing game and there defense is very solid.

@Daysleeper you are one of the people who tried to go against my point
How can the teams below Juve be superior to them??
The mind boggles....
Many last minute penalties or wonder own goals and just a very fortunate season for Juve. I saw 90% of there games and I can name 5 games alone in which they should have lost points in.
But they didn't lose points in them games, they won them. Football is 50% luck, Lyon were lucky tonight,
Crazy to say what you have really!! As I say, the mind boggles

Man City playing on cheat mode continues to flatter to deceive in the Champions league, makes little sense why they are made favourites each year. No fluke for Lyon either who had no fear of City after getting two results against them last season including a win in the Etihad Stadium.

I love the CL. Greatest tournament in the world.

There's a shout for more one -legged ties to if they allow more upsets.

God I’m glad I decided to watch the match:lol::lol:

This season has truly been a disaster for City. I wonder if Pep is there when the new season starts.

Another Champions League quarter final, another tactical tweak out of nowhere, another defeat. Thanks Pep.

Rio Ferdinand already gently directing the attention away from Raheem Sterling and toward Gabriel Jesus. Must protect the Inglish at all costs!

Probably worried about him getting more racist abuse online to be honest.

In the end german and french teams showed up in MUCH better shape than everyone else

Also, Guardiola

It's kinda infuriating that we didn't make him pay for his overthinking

Still. Barcelona lose 8-2 and Guardiola goes out to OL back to back nights

I need a cold shower and 20 cigarettes actually
Bottle of white for me. What a couple of nights!

I am not saying they were played off the pitch but I am saying over the two legs they were the superior team and collectively the way they play is much better then Juve.

There midfield is one sector of the pitch where IMO they are stronger than Juve in.

That is a different debate than what we had my friend. You were saying Lyon was a better squad and making it sound like them besting Juve wasn’t an upset. It still was a big one, but to your credit perhaps people have been underrating Lyon because this was their best game of the tournament

"Fletch" says this is a "historic" result of Lyon... why? Because they beat City? They've been to the semi-finals before haven't they?

The commentators would have their minds blown if someone told them that Lyon is historically a bigger club than Manchester City pre Sheikh purchase. Not everyone gets lucky with being bought by the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund.

Smiling like a Cheshire cat here whilst they're in mourning on BT Sport! Couldn't have happened to a nicer club!

So how much is pep going to spend on his defence and replacement goalkeeper this summer? Another 200m in a pandemic? He has already spent 60 so only another 140 to go.

I still stand by that. Lyon were more clinical than City but on the balance of the game they weren't 'better'.

The narrative here will be they outplayed us, they didn't. They just took 3 gifts while we literally fluffed two sitters and shit the bed as per usual.

I felt people don't actually watch games, but going by scoreline and name (hype).

The shaming game on Ronaldo was silly after Juventus got eliminated by Lyon. Sarri got sacked promptly, and all some people got is to blame player(s) who bailed Juventus all season. Anyone who watched games, and have some decency to be honest know, Juventus was going backwards as a team under Sarri. The number one issue this season.
Thats exactly it. People dont watch games and just go off of names rather then how teams play and perform.

Seriously it's so much fun, it's like a World Cup. We'll never get back to this format unfortunately what with fecking over the fans and all but still.
It has been so entertaining, think there has been some arrogance and the smaller teams have stuck it to them. The big teams will not let this format continue.

Yeah Sarri is a fraud. Juve are better than the team who finished 7th in the French league though. Even if they beat them in a one off game Watford aren't better than Liverpool.
They beat them in 2 games though overall.

Who'd have thunk that Manuel Pellegrini would have been City's most successful UCL head coach?

McManaman: "We were expecting a routine victory tonight and that's not arrogance"

Just because he had a year strolling around there at the dog end of his career, he thought he had to give it the old bias tonight.
Enjoyable watching it unfold.

Lyon were absolute dog shit in Ligue 1 this season - they finished 7th ffs! 9 points behind 4th. Just because they somehow beat Juventus and Man City doens't mean they're a great team.
The long break they had is probably helping them.

Just snuck 3 lucky goals, obvs.
Like when Liverpool lost to Atletico.
