Cesc Fabregas

Djourou has looked immense since his comeback.

There, now I've jinxed him.

I know, I'm loving it. We really needed someone to step up in Vermaelen's absence. feck I was worried when he copped his injury and we were looking at simply having only two new CB's and a player who had spent a season on the sidelines. Thank god he's come good.

I've been surprised your defence has not looked more shit with Chesney Hawkes in goal and Djourou at the back. Probably a blip though.

If everyone was fit and firing, and that formation was used, I'd play:

Rooney
Nani ................. Nasri
Cesc ... Fletcher
Song
Evra ... Ferdinand ... Vidic ... Sagna
VDS

I don't see a Robin van Persie there ahead of Rooney

Not long before Clichy remembers he's not made a feckup for some time now.

Sagna, Song, Nasri, Cesc and RvP and an in form Arshavin would make your team rather easily.

Nasri and Cesc would easily make it in our team. RvP is a difficult one. He's brilliant when fit but choosing him over Berba or Rooney would be hard. Maybe, just maybe we could put him ahead of Berba and with Rooney.

In or out of form Arshavin would not get in our team, where's the place? Sagna is solid defensively but Rafael adds a lot to our attacking play as well so no would not take him.

Don't be stupid Alex. Song's been excellent for us for a season and a half now.

Fletcher's form has been failing all season - most probably a temporary thing, but failing it is. Carrick's just come into some form again lately, and United have no one else to take up the defensive responsibilities in the center of the pitch.

Hence Song, who might I say again has been excellent for a season and a half now - and is one of the most (I even argued last season he was our most important player structure wise... But that's more an argument about our squad's depth, though it does speak of his ability to no small extent) important players in our squad - is a more than reasonable suggestion.

I think Djouorou's probably been your best defender this season. I love the Koscielny Squillaci pairing though. You'll have lost 7 of the 9 games they've started together and one of them was the Huddersfield match

Sagna Rio Vidic Evra

Song Carrick

Nani Fabregas Nasri

Rooney/RvP

I tried to take their overall ability, current form and how they would suit this formation into account. (Hence Rooney/RvP as the lone striker instead of Berba)

Nani and Fabregas in one team would be hard to watch :nervous:

I like it, that would have been my next suggestion. Swapping Carrick with Fletcher and having Fabregas playing more advanced, which I suppose is a position he has been playing for a while now.

Is that an actual stat? Surely not...

Yeah it is. I was reading about it on the BBC commentary during the Huddersfield game. At that point 7 of the 8 games the pair had started you'll lost

So. Play those two vs United please ;)

BBC must be right thought right?

What are the matches they've started? The 2 games they did not lose are Anfield and Huddersfield.

The defeats then:

Chelsea, United, United (Newc), WBA, Braga, Eduardo's team, Spurs and Ipswich? Did those 2 start all these games?

Rejuventated Djourou? And you must have missed Rio and Vidic there. But go on and start Vermaelen and the rejuvenated Djourou.

So Nasri is better than Giggs, Nani and Valencia?

Who's wearing the tinted specs now...hmmm...

Nasri is a better, more dynamic and much more versatile player than Valencia, and is better than the current Giggs. Arguably better than Nani too. Either way they're both having excellent seasons.

Vidic and Rio go without saying. Hence the whole without saying thing... I was merely making a point about the shaky Evans remark which was ludicrous. And if you knew what you were talking about you'd no doubt know Djourou's been excellent for us this season after coming back from a year-long knee injury. Hence, the rejuvenated Djourou comment.

Over to you.

Cal? saying that only Cesc would get into the United team is a joke.

Basically, I'd take Sagna over Rafael because I like getting 90 minutes out of my full back.

Song over Fletcher, because he's better.

Cesc and Nasri obviously.

RVP over Berbatov - offers so much at set pieces which swings it.

You'd take Sagna, Song and van Persie over our players because they're yours, not so much between them at all.

I think your confusing Fabio with Rafael.

That is a fantastic side. I would prefer Rafael ahead of Sagna. Maybe I am biased, but Rafael is a special talent and offers more going forward.

I would be in favour of dropping Song and adding either Berbatov or van Persie. Probably Berbatov based on this season's form.

All these line-up games are stupid because team dynamics are everything e.g. Song might do well for Arsenal but I can't picture him in a United team.

If you combined the squads I'd send out the Arsenal XI for run of the mill games against cannon fodder, and watch them romp to comfortable victories.

I'd send out United for difficult games against good teams on the occasions that matter.

I'd take Sagna over Rafael because he's an experienced quality player. Rafael is a great talent, but he's still a worry. Against Bayern last year, he was stupidly sent off, and he did it again against Spurs. Can you trust him in big games? Because Sagna is Mr. Reliable.

Song has been better than Fletcher for two seasons now. He's a better passer and tackler, and he is good aerially. On positioning, Fletcher wins.

RVP, you have a point.

Rafael is a different player to what he was last season. He has improved exponentially.

Against Spurs he was very unlucky to be sent off, don't you agree?
He was probably our best player that day before being sent off anyway.

Rafael, footballistically, is fine. And getting better by the game.

He wasn't unlucky against Spurs - the first challenge was very poor, and he wasn't careful enough. Same against Bayern. He needs to learn from it.

Irrelevant. Don't forget Sagna's was in the 95th minute, whereas you had to survive 20 mins at WHL with ten.

Oh, my mistake, obviously Sagna's doesn't count then.

Christ, arguing with gunners on this thread is like pulling teeth through your eyes.

"My red card was in the 95th minute, so it's not really a red card, get the feck in!"

The importance of the red card obviously differed. It's not hard to understand.

It's a stupid pointless argument.

Rafael got harshly sent off, whereas Sagna's was fully deserved.

You criticise him for getting sent off in the CL QF last season, when he'd been the best player on the pitch, and it was again harsh - Ribery's antics did it for him more than anything. The irony being Rafael had coped with him admirably up until then.

Meanwhile Sagna was being torn a new arsehole in your QF.

Sagna wouldn't have been sent off if the dozy twat of a ref had given the clear foul on him. Rafael should have been off at Blackpool too.

Hmm looking at it on paper like that, there are very few Arsenal players that would get into our first eleven. Good to see

It's all very well playing amazingly for an hour, but he lost you the tie. Who cares about the first hour?

Blaming Sagna for us losing to Barcelona seems a bit harsh, especially when Silvestre was in the middle.

How can I blame him when he got sent off because of an opponent cheating?

All I can judge him on is his performance before the harsh red card, which was excellent. Rafael has been frequently the best player on the pitch for us, often in big games, and produced performances Sagna hasn't even got close to replicating.

Rafael is already as good as Sagna, and in two years time, Rafael will be the best RB in the world, whilst Sagna will be playing in Ligue 1, and noone will remember a thing about him other than his shit hair.

Sagna's been head and shoulders the best right back in the league since he arrived in 2007. Rafael's had a few good games mostly when he's able to get forward, he's positionally crap and still very rash.

Well whilst you live in your delusional fantasy world, I'll stick to cold hard facts if you don't mind.

Nonsense, his positioning has been brilliant this season time and again, you're just spouting the same tiresome soundbites that some pundits still do.

I'm not surprised you've wiped last season from your memory. But he was poor and so was Clichy. Only your CBs managed anything worthy of credit.
