Centre Back... Who do we go for?

He’s actually excellent on the ball. I think he’s too good for Leicester.
Leicester do have aspirations of breaking into the top six but they bought two very good young CB's last window (Filip Benkovic & Caglar Soyuncu ) and the feeling is that Leicester would let Maguire go if the money was right.

Personally I don't think Maguire would do well under JM as he likes to push forward.
He is a very good CB and I would hate to see him leave.

We’re all hoping Mourinho gets sacked and I think it’s inevitable. Do you think he’s good enough to lift the United defense and good enough for a title challenging team?

Because it’s a more forgiving position for slower players, he’s tall and he can pass the ball (or at least should be able to pass the ball) better than our other options.

I agree with the rest though

It definitely is not. Especially with Target Man type strikers out of fashion.

I hope United call Tuanzebe back from Villa before. If they decide to buy another cb in january. Even i dont think United will buy a new cb with Ole. But the boy should give equal and same chance to proof that he should be consider for a cb option. Even you a on loan, the quality of your teammates are lower at Villa than United. Its not the same. Jadon came to one of the best and most dominate team in Bundesliga in Dortmund. Its different. Then play for bottoms teams. Only 2-3 really good players in the XI is not enough. Like Ocean Eleven movie. You need the best from all areas. Fotball consist of 11 players. To win premier league. You need really close to be complete as a team, as a XI. Without lesser weakness as possible. Bring the boy back please.

Calling Tuanzebe now and playing him next to no leadership partner in one of the biggest league might end up destroying his confidence. The way how a centre back develop is different with how a winger develop.

If the £100m that was supposed to be provided to back Jose in January will be given to Ole instead, then it needs to be used on an experienced or world class centre back. It’s a position that we need the most right now no matter who’s the manager is. Any manager will struggle with back four with no leadership. Thus, signing a world class centre back will be benefit for both Ole and our next season manager.

Big 6 months for Axel for me, needs to stay at Villa and impress. Do think it’ll be down to who we appoint in the summer, if it’s Poch or someone of that ilk, I recon he’ll get a shot, Zidane, I’m not so sure?

Axel is no better than what is there tbh, let him play the rest of the season with Villa and see how he fares there.

Koulibaly might have signed a extension but I think he's still available for transfer in the summer if someone pays up.

Also disgraceful scenes at the San Siro, where Koulibaly was racially abused sadly..

Not since September.

Maguire got man of the match today against City.

I’d love to sign him.
He was shattered at the beginning of the season but we'll be talking about him as competing with Van Djik to be the best centre back in the Premier League by the end of the season.

I can remember van dyk been shattered at Southampton as well.

Zidane introduced loads of Castillo lads to the first team. A number as regulars in his prefered rotation policy.

We have 5 centre halves at the club already. I don't see us buying anyone for that position without making some room first...
Well some defenders will be leaving for sure. So there will be room for talents. Hopefully de Ligt is one of them

It's very unlikely to prise him away from Real but Varane would be ideal. Other options are De Ligt or Koulibaly.

Only Smalling and Jones are any good. And Jones is too injury prone to be relied upon in a crisis.

I'd bring Tuanzebe back and buy one World Class leader at the very least (possibly even in January if that were possible). Lindelof/Jones/Bailly/Rojo can fight it out to be the fourth choice. The other three should be allowed to go.

I've only really paid close attention to Maguire and De Ligt. Either would be a brilliant addition, imo.

A DM who could rotate with Matic whilst providing an extra bit of cover at CB would also be good. Declan Rice might fit that bill, unless Garner is considered good enough.

Would have been my first choice for the last 2/3 years. Napoli have been a very good team in both Serie A and in Europe and I think the extension sadly means the end of signing him, DeLight and Upamecano I think would be the two best attainable options now

I genuinely think we're good to go if we get rid of Rojo and maybe one of Jones/Smalling/Bailly and bring back Tuanzebe + buy Alderweireld/Koulibaly/Someone good.

Is hernandez too hard to get? We need a left footed LCB in my opinion.
He could leave. He's only played about half the games this season with Simeone preferring Giminez and Savic to partner Godin. The Savic preference is rather puzzling to me as he also lacks pace and makes more mistakes than Lucas. He also prefers Filipe Luis at LB which makes a bit more sense as he's a naturally attacking full-back. I think Lucas has a low release clause but if he does leave I'd imagine it would be in the summer and probably to Bayern.

Would you rate him good enough for us - or should we or can we aiming higher at LCB?

Definitely good enough. He's already elite level with plenty of room for improvement. Is great at left back too. Has pace to burn and is good on the ball. If he's available in the market we'd really be missing out if he went elsewhere.

Godin tends to make everyone look great or at least a level above what they normally would show but Lucas also has played very well for France albeit as a LB. He's got a good head on him too. He was thrown in at the deep end as a teenager and took to it like a duck to water right away in crucial champions league games.

Alderweireld for 25m and Koulibaly probably for around 65m would be my choices.
It’d be daft getting two top centre halves in. Just one will do, Bailly and Lindelof have potential. Lindelof’s been great recently and Bailly has showed potential before. Unfair to just kick one of them out, especially considering deadwood like Smalling and Jones have stuck around for so long.

Bailly is always injured I think we need three ahead of him. Lindelof has improved a lot yes. Hopefully he keeps his form up.

That’s true but we have to allow players to get a run in the team rather than just buy to replace em. Obviously if he proves to be a full on crook then he’d need players ahead of him but he could get over it and be class - then we’d have an uphappy centre back on our hands.

Dalot is a good example. He’s not the best at the moment but I can almost guarantee we won’t buy a right back to play ahead of him in the next year at least. Only one to cover for injuries perhaps, as Tony V is getting on a bit.

I'm not actually sure Bailly has been injured this season, there was some sort of falling out with Mourinho from a couple of things I've read, and the injury was just the excuse for his disappearence from squads and then sudden reappearence, I mean he even left him on the bench and playewd McTominay as CB like a big feck you to Bailly. I'd only buy one until we see what Bailly and Lindelof develop into over this season, as I want to see Axel intergrated next season as well and while Smalling has his limitations he's solid enough to be a squad CB in my view.

I think Young will still be here as cover/competition with Dalot at RB next season, far from ideal but that's life. I think we need to get in some cover/competition for Shaw at LB.

I still think that De Ligt should be our top CB target. I know he's not the established top class CB that many are looking for, but he's a very good one at only 19, and a near certainty to be world class in the future. He's also great with the ball, and a natural leader. If we're looking to sign two CBs in the summer (I doubt we are), then I would look at Maguire as one of the top options in addition to De Ligt. Maguire is left footed, good in the air, physical, and English. He wouldn't be cheap but he would complement Lindelof/De Ligt really well. Of course, it would mean we'd have to get rid of some of our CBs. To me, its pretty clear who they should be (Jones and Rojo).

If Ole is still here next season, he won't be happy with Shaw, Young and Dalot if they perform like against Huddersfield as usual, type of fullback like Cancelo, Mendy, Alba, Kimmich who can beat men, lay low crosses or make cutback passes/square passes and keep width threatening.

All in for De Ligt. He's our chance of a long term top class CD.

Pretty sure blockhead is right-footed no?

Definitely good in the air but in about 2/3 seasons you're going to wonder why we parted with so much money for him. Eclipsed at international level (Gomez, Stones) & easily replaced at Leceister (Soyuncu, Benkovic)

Lindelof, smalling, Bailly and tuanzebe + 1 other for me, but I don't think we can make a transition like that until the summer.

The new addition needs to be a leader and a top player - Godin, Varane, De Ligt. If we can't get the top players we'd be better off trusting the scouts and slowly integrating a young player with potential, or trusting in our own youth system.

It has to be De Ligt, I don't see the point of throwing money at 29 year old plus.

I would also like to see Jones and Rojo moved on and Smalling moved to being a squad player.
