Why? Is it not pretty obvious that Smalling is Mourinho´s number one CB?There is no way Godin signs and Smalling keeps his place

Yes, Godin is a one-man defence. Doesn't need a partner. There is no way Godin signs and Smalling keeps his place
Mourinho would attempt the other combinations first, but if they aren't solid enough (which is a fairly high chance) he'll come back to Smalling. There is no way Godin signs and Smalling keeps his place

Even two year ago, Godin lacked the pace for the PL game and really dont see him leaving Atletico midseason after signing an extension last summerI am torn about Godin. He is a damn good player still and used to playing in a lowblock defence at Atletico. If Mourinho had gone for him two years ago and not bought Lindelöf and Bailly I would have been all for it.
Now it would be a stop-gap solution that would cement Godin and Smalling in our central defence as long as Mourinho stays and most likely force a player like Bailly out.
Maybe if we were fighting for the league and with a realistic possibility to win the CL, it might be a good idea. Now I lean to that it would just stop us from addressing the CB-position next summer long-term.
And then he needs to want to come as well, we reportedly met his release clause last summer and he said no.
Maguire would cost a fortune and I'm not sure he'd 'fix' anythingquick fix: alder or maguire
Long term: koulibaily, skriniar, deLight, ake
Ideally we get 2 of the above and keep Lindelof and Bailly as backups
The problem here is how much Spurs are relying on him. If they'd been phasing him out and using mostly Vertonghen and Sanchez there would have been a real chance of it happening, but instead Alderweireld has been their man man. Can't see them selling him for anything but a stupidly overpriced bid.
Vertonghen is a bit older so that may narrow the transition windowI'd be surprised if Spurs sell him mid-season, or not unless any January offer is for a lot more than £25m.
Beyond that, Foyth and Sanchez are the long-term future CBs for Spurs, so with Vertonghen to help them along I don't imagine Spurs will regret Toby's departure all that much in the summer if he won't sign a new contract.
We don't need a central defender. We already have 5. It's not the defenders fault we are allowing so many goals. It's the system. You can only sit back and not put any pressure on an attacker for so long before they are going to eventually score. Change the system and we will start scoring more and conceding less...
This just in...playing a low block makes it more difficult for defenders, not a high line with high risk passes and constant 1v1s but a parked bus. You live in opposite land.
This is from someone who has a season ticket at Dynamo Kyiv, where Vida was/is a cult hero. But just no: please no, no, no) He makes Smalling look like Messi ffs)I like Vida the Croatian CB, I would imagine he wouldn't cost that much and he'd jump at the chance to play for a club of our stature.
If you bought him an this Koubaliy character constantly mentioned I think they would be a huge upgrade on what we have already.

No worries, I love Vida, all Dynamo-fans do. But he is as quick as Matic and as technical as a hungover Smalling. He gets stuck in though; thats for sure.I've only seen a limited amount of games and he's always impressed me. Fair enough I take your opinion as you've clearly seen more than I have.
United peoples T.V have SerieA football expert Francesco Porzio to run the rule on Milan Skriniar, Nikola Milenkovic, and Joachim Andersen, regarding their suitability in joining us. What's interesting is that he believes we should move for Milenkovic if it was his choice due to Milenkovic having the bigger potential out of the 3.
I'm glad he agrees with me..
First, Smalling is similar in style to Godin. Just a worse player. A Godin would be better suited to playing alongside Lindeloff or even Bailly. Why? Is it not pretty obvious that Smalling is Mourinho´s number one CB?
One who can stay fit at least.
Matic at CB should work in theory, he’s way to slow for midfield at the moment. I bet you it doesn’t work in practice though and he has an awful game.
Because it’s a more forgiving position for slower players, he’s tall and he can pass the ball (or at least should be able to pass the ball) better than our other options.why should it work in theory. he's slow, poor in the air, not aggressive in the tackle and doesnt track runners. all he has is he is decent on the ball compared to the other options we have

I agree with the rest though
