Casemiro | United Player

Now let's see what difference a proper DM can make to a free falling side. Very interesting indeed.

Who knew we would have the spine of that 3peat Real Madrid team? Of course, they're all probably past their peak and unfortunately we have an absolute buffoon in goal.
De Gea's finally getting his wish to play for 2015 Real.

Agent Varane played a blinder here.

I don't get the people complaining. This is the single most important signing we could make at this time - it would be nice to add a striker and Antony perhaps before the end of the window (I have no idea what is happening with De Jong).

With this signing and one more or even two I can live with De Gea and Dalot for a bit.

We have needed this position filled for years not months and we've just about got the best one and he actually wants to come.

30 really isn't that old for class in that position I am delighted with it.

This guy is gonna be so shocked at what he's walking into
I can’t help but chuckle thinking of the paradise training he’s coming from with deft pirouettes and sublime touches from Modric, to dreamy passes onto a sixpence from Kroos, who finds Benzema, swivelling left and right with his eyes closed, bringing the ball down with a casual ease, caressing it like it’s his lover before laying it on to Vinicius barrelling down the wing at 100mph before returning the favour for Benzema to 180 turn hook the ball into a net with a crisp shrill that can be heard around the training ground….

Good times - you can’t leave, you’ve already signed!

I get the concerns but i also totally get the excitment

I do have a nagging feeling he could end up same as some previous signings. Utd should be looking for the next Casemiro not the 30 year old man himself. And cant shake the thought of why Real would want to sell. They are no mugs.
I think it's a position where we need someone that's world class at this moment. The next Casemiro isn't going to be at a level we need now, that's someone to potentially bring in either next summer or the year after which hopefully gives them a couple of years to develop to the right standard.

In a world where gibbs white costs 45m...I suppose this isn't bad business at all.

Add to the fact that we DESPERATELY need a midfielder. Beyond belief that we still have Fred and McT at this club, let alone starting every game by default.

 Ffs. How old is this making some of us feel?

....fuk me i only wish i was 30 again and could alter some "choices" made

i was generally just speaking in footballing age and position he plays that he still has 2-3 good years left in his legs to do teh business for United especially if we put excellent players around him

I don't think it'll be too long before we see this starting XI

Eriksen for mct

Varane for maguire

Malacia for Shaw

(Hopefully) antony for sancho, bin off rashford to reserves and play sancho at lw antony at rw and we've got a decent team there.

It's a lot of money for 30 year old but frankly all things considered, it's a good deal. You need to consider where we are as a club, how late it is in the window, how badly we need this, his level as a player.

As outlined in that piece by Andy Mitten a couple of days ago, Casemiro is apparently a football obsessive and a massive tactics geek - he literally sits at home on his own watching matches on Wyscout, looking at the data and analysing his and other players' performances.

I would loved to see Utd dressing room after every match.

If rumours are true (if he signs) that we're paying €70m, giving him a 4+1 contract and putting him on a very high wage for a 30 year old player accustomed to playing at a far different pace to the PL and with far better players then we just haven't learned a thing on our past mistakes.

It took Rodri a year to become accustomed to the pace and he's a lot younger. Saul was also putting up fantastic numbers at Atlético but was a total failure at Chelsea even if his minutes where limited. Is Casemiro better than what we have? Of course he is and if it was the Casemiro of 5 years ago then I'd be all over the transfer but I don't think in todays market its worth forking out so much on a player coming from a very successful club into a shit storm where its going to be very hard for him to find motivation other than his paycheck. A big no from me.
Saul left Atletico as he was no longer first choice. Was struggling there too for a while, however, I do take your point. Very long contract and huge fee + wages for a 30 year old

Panic buy or not, this is the type of signing you need and he will instantly elevate your midfield. Reports say he’s going to be on 400k/week. Really makes Sancho’s 300k/week look like poor poor business.

Just goes to show how quickly a major deal can be completed..!
I don't mean to be churlish, but this could have been done 6 weeks ago, no?

The financials seem too steep, but no doubt Casemiro is a class act, and feck me, just imagine if we did sign FDJ on deadline day..!!

Muppetational...

Because if he wasnt he wouldnt be leaving! Real dont sell their best players until they aint there best players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who was better than Ronaldo when he was sold?
Who was better than Varane when he was sold?
Who is better than Casemiro currently? The kids who haven't played yet?

Please back up your points.

I don't know about this. UTD are investing a lot of money on a 30 year old. If we were City with unlimited funds I wouldn't mind. Casemiro is the player you sign to win the league or UCL in the next 2 years. But this team is 3+ years away from being a challenger. We should have gone for someone younger, who could play the position for the next 8 years. I don't rate Declan as high as Casemiro. But I would have been willing to add on another 20 mil in order to get him because of his age.

Great signing for the next couple seasons. But I'd like us to plan like City. City when they were building their team, they got young players who in a few seasons time could contend for multiple seasons. And there's a reason Madrid are ok letting him go. They got a young replacement who can play that position for the next 10 years. We need to start mimicking how the current most successful teams are building their teams with young world class players. FDJ would have fit that bill

It’s worth 60m to make sure McT never plays again.

from McFred to CasaFred

HUGE UPGRADE

Something like this could also work

Unfortunately you’re not in a strong position to negotiate. Everyone knows you’re desperate for a quality midfielder. ETH really thought Fred/Bruno/McT/Eriksen would be enough.

If true, it’s even more absurd he’s decided to sign for United

we needed someone to instantly be good in the DM Position and play it for a few years. There will be a noticeable difference in the way we play now because of this transfer and we should get minimum 2 very High quality years out of him.

Called it. Tuesday and early Wednesday was crazy.
£50m guaranteed with a salary heavily weighted based on us getting top 4 makes it a no brainer really. We are genuinely desperate as feck and Casemiro is about as good an option as possible at DM. Heavy Varane vibes (l o l) but it's a chance we have to take. Could change our entire team.
