I’m just going to repeat this point:

Yes like they didn’t sell Robben, Ozil, Di Maria (who had a very good career after his one season here), Kovacic, Hakimi, Ødegaard, Theo Hernandez, Makalele, Xabi Alonso etc
Fabinho as well

Something like this could also work

bro trying to get us relegated

This is the problem. Short term thinking. Casemiro helps us in the next 2 years to get into top 4. Then 2 years later we will need to replace him. So why not get someone who can play the next 2 years and another 6 years on top of that. FDJ was that kind of player. He's 25, at the min you are getting 7 years of his prime before he starts to decline.

We should be solely looking at players in the 22- 25 year range. Players who are not too young, are just going into their prime and have 7 + years left of good football.

Otherwise we are constantly caught in this cycle of having to holes in the squad. So lets next summer we get a striker and another CM to play next to Casemiro. A year or two years after that we will need to replace him. We need to start filling holes in the squad in the long term so we are not caught in this constant cycle of rebuilds.

Look at Varane. That transfer was a mistake. Great player but older and always hurt. Look at what City did, they got in Diaz who at that time was 23 for a 6 year contract. They got a player who can fill that position for 8 - 10 years.

Modric is still doing it at 36. 4 - 5 good years out of Casemiro is good business. Anything to stabilise the team and arrest the decline has to be seen as good business. We have a lot of young players developing already. Hopefully they will get to the level we need.

Elanga as the hard-working roaming support striker.
Rashford with his pace for the counter.
Fred and McTominay will provide defensive support on the sides for AWB and Shaw who will tuck in and join the 3 CB's in the box to make it 5 auxiliary CB's. Casemiro will make it a possible 6th CB when need be.

This is the problem.
I struggle to see how any of this is actually a problem. Really. Even if it is 2 years. That 2 years we will have one of, if not the best players in the position. Not denying our transfer policy has been far from amazing but landing this guy is fantastic news. Try and enjoy it for what it is. Given our current situation, Casemiro coming here is a huge coup.

because let’s say we do challenge in the next 2/3 years… we willbe able to attract a better replacement for when casemiro gets too old. If we struggle for a few more years and don’t get near too 4, the rest of this decade will be difficult.

I think the simple answer is that FDJ would rather play for Barcelona than United, for the precise reasons you mention. He is coming into his prime years. This is where he makes his mark and likely makes his biggest contribution to his team and wins the bulk of his medals.

Where is he most likely to do that?

We need to find where Redcafe servers are and burn them with fire.

Because it's clear that Touchauameni is a top talent and was going to go to a big club this summer? They didn't want to miss out on him and were probably forced to sign him a year or two prematurely. Ancelotti's salty comment earlier suggests he'd probably have liked to keep him.

Time will tell if it's a good signing or he's worth the outlay, but given our position and predicament, he's got to be one of the best acquisitions we could make, in the short term at least.
Time will tell. But did anyone, at the time, ever complain about any of our previous ‘marquee’ signings ? Yet the same pattern emerges and people think “this one will be different”.

I’m not opposed so much to signing Casemiro as I know we need experience in our team. If we had a plan and I trusted the next 2-4 signings to be players aged 25 and under then great, he’d be perfect. A winner, a leader, experienced, and very good. But realistically it’s not part of a plan it’s just a stand alone signing, although I hope I’m wrong.

You clearly know nothing about Casemiro if you genuinely think that’s a possibility
Clearly you can't comprehend a sentence . Let's hope!! So if you say different I'm glad the transfer looks closer now.

Someone needs to put some lyrics together from Canyonero, off of The Simpsons.

Can you name the man, stops attacks with a slide?
Signed a massive deal till he turns thirty-five..
CASEMIRO! CASEMIRO!
You're going to A&E when he puts the hammer down,
A Brazilian tank, purchased by a clown!
CASEMIRO! CASEMIRO!

YAH! CASEMIRO YAH!

I love it when people are so gloriously steadfast with their misspellings of names! Even all caps! Go on, ATHLETICO!!

Anyone know what kind of attitude Casemiro has? Someone who can kick our prima donnas up their asses and drag them along or someone likely to get influenced by the whining folks (mainly in attack) and lose all motivation?
Really excited about the signing but I've been this way before only to be let down in a few months:nervous:
You don’t survive in RM for 10 years without being a pro.

Casemiro will be the biggest United signing in the last few years.

He is the asnwer to our problems, no doubt.

Both Maguire and Martinez will love him.

Not sure how I feel about this signing. His an improvement over Mctominay and Fred defensively but, I would prefer a de Jong type midfielder. At least now we have a dm and we won't have to shoehorn box to box midfielder like Mctominay and Fred in that position now
