Love this post. It's so frustrating that our academy players aren't getting a chance at the moment, given how awful we have been. Garnacho can feel aggrieved at not having a chance given out attacking issues. Garner hasn't had a look in either. Europa League this season should be an opportunity for some of these guys to get some experience if they're still at the club.

The full backs we have are exciting prospects, looking forward to seeing how they do on loan.

Yeah I think we will see a lot more of them in the next couple of years. I trust someone like Ten Hag to manage them through correctly.

We have some really exciting players but they are a year or two off being able to properly push for a first team spot. Garnacho though should be seeing some minutes this season and my fear of he doesn't would be that he does a Haaland or a Sancho and leaves to a club like Dortmund, so he can get minutes.

If anything positive has come about from how shit we've been over the last ten years, it's been that I've actually gotten more and more invested in the club as a whole and the academy has been a nice distraction.

This season I'm going to take my lad to a load of the women's games as well. Mainly because the attitude around the academy and women's team doesn't have the insane toxicity that the first team does. Academy and women's games are free or a fiver, so it's a nice distraction to be honest.

My lad is 12 and really started getting into football properly last year. We followed the youth teams and went to the final etc and he really enjoyed it.

Fantastic signing of course, regardless of his age. At this moment one of the best CDMs out there. The transfer fee looks a bit steep, his 4 year contract a bit too long. I'd say 2 year contract with an option of an additional year sounds alot better. Of course, I don't know his salary. If his salary is reasonable, I don't see any reason not to give him a 4 year contract.

Any idea how old Makelele was when he joined Chelsea?

1 year older I think.

Difficult to see why anyone would be against this. I'd agree that we need to start moving away from these types of deals and that previous ones haven't exactly gone well but there should always be room for exceptions.

Here we have a guy in a position that's been neglected for years, has the attitude and leadership we're desperately lacking, no previous injury issues and is still in his prime. On top of that, for whatever reason it does seem as though he actually wants to join the club.

Who knew we would have the spine of that 3peat Real Madrid team? Of course, they're all probably past their peak and unfortunately we have an absolute buffoon in goal.

Casemiro wants a new challenge, he’ll certainly get that here when he realises he ain’t playing with Modric and kroos. Still can’t believe we pulled this off though… massive improvement in midfield.

The did just get Tchouameni for 100m and Casemiro is getting on now. They can get 60m+ from United and have rejuvenated that position for the next decade on the cheap. They did that successfully with Varane/Ramos -> Militao.

The state of the posts on the first page of this thread…

Page 1, post 18  weaker muppets had lost faith after the FDJ saga, but not me.

Just reading this thread for the terrible takes about this being a bad signing now. Their moaning gives me sustenance.

despite his age, this is really a massive signing and there really can't be any complaints as he plugs arguably the biggest hole we had going into this season....he does a job we don't currently have and that's someone to protect the space in front of the two CB's and his ability to progress the ball from the DCM position is very very good.

ffs...now can we just find him a decent partner??? honestly with his experience i'd be really interested to see Garner or Zidane get a chance to play alongside him
 Ffs. How old is this making some of us feel?

I get the concerns but i also totally get the excitment

I do have a nagging feeling he could end up same as some previous signings. Utd should be looking for the next Casemiro not the 30 year old man himself. And cant shake the thought of why Real would want to sell. They are no mugs.

Keylor Navas looking to leave PSG :wenger:

I can understand both sides, but I am definitely more on the positive one.
He is a huge upgrade on what we have and also on the dross we were linked with in the past few weeks. He plays a position we desperately need quality in.

And he could just fit in perfectly from the beginning like he was somehow successfully playing with us for ages. This did happen after all already a grand total of 3 times in the last decade or so (RvP, Ibra, Bruno).

Of course there’s also a chance that like with a lot of the other signings in the last decade he loses all his ability, intelligence and desire the moment he joins us.

Like DiMaria who seemed like he would rather be on the Mars than at United.
There are some similarities:
Both were very hard working, had just won the CL with Madrid, had Ancelotti as manager and we had/have a Dutch manager.

Still on the whole this should be a good signing.

Huge signing. Shows our ambition. Shows that we have what we need to attract the big names regardless of where we play in Europe.

We still need one more signing in midfield, and part of our pitch can now be: "and hey, you can play next to Casemiro". Also gives us leverage in negotiations with other clubs now, since our midfield is no longer just this big gaping hole that needs to be plugged with someone who has a pulse, no matter what.

Don't have any issues with the financial terms, really. We were always going to overpay for this midfield signing, since everyone knew that we are desperate. And I don't actually think that we have overpaid by that much (to Real or to the player).

Every signing carries risks, of course. But we were not in a position to be picky. The biggest risk by far would have been playing McFred in midfield all season.

I guess Fred is the happiest about this
Finally an end of the McFred circus.
And finally a proper fecking DM!

Panic buy or not, this is an incredible move, reminds me of Fernandinho to City, I think he could have that same effect for you. You'll see a better Fred also.

Age is just a number for players of this level, he can easily go another 2-3 years. I'm most looking forward to seeing if he is still able to dodge yellow cards like he did in La liga

Christ.

This is a great signings and I am very happy :).

The speed of it is what will catapult it to number one in the all time muppet charts.

I slate journos on the regular but whoever broke this should go into Tier 0

70m for a 30 year old who's already won it all at Real Madrid? What could go wrong!
This is the only reason why I think there's a chance. They'll be looking to shift him at some point anyways, if some club comes with a stupid offer they'll surely consider it. Of course, whether the player accepts is another story.
Called it. Tuesday and early Wednesday was crazy.

A genuine question for the posters who remembers early days of Darren Fletcher. Is Scott Mctominay really far worse than young Fletcher? I remember he was described as a "stepson" of SAF, and Scottish connection was a constant theme at the time.
That's because our standards were incredibly high. Fletcher was on a completely different. Mctominay simply hasn't got anywhere near the same ability.

You're aware Carlo wanted him to stay. How that means he's surpus to requirements I simply dont know.

Because if he wasnt he wouldnt be leaving! Real dont sell their best players until they aint there best players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This signing will mean we can play Fred in his best role, the role ralf played him in… further up the pitch. The other players should perform a lot better now they know they have a solid DM behind them.

I’m just going to repeat this point:

Yes like they didn’t sell Robben, Ozil, Di Maria (who had a very good career after his one season here), Kovacic, Hakimi, Ødegaard, Theo Hernandez, Makalele, Xabi Alonso etc

I sooo hope i’m wrong. I expect this fully to be another failed galactico-past-the-top signing. Nothing will make me happier than being wrong.
