That central trio of Casemiro in front of Varane and Martinez can compete with any trio in football.

I keep thinking about this scenario:
Imagine if a few years ago we had a match against Real: McT/Fred/Bruno vs Casemiro/Kroos/Modric
How many levels would they be above? Is 3 a generous number?

I think I love him already, absolute monster in the middle of the pitch with a bit of quality too

I actually love these reckless yellows he picks up, I like the fact we have a player in CM who's not afraid to just pile through an opponent once or twice a game

I was worried when he came in as he looked so off the pace. It was either lack of minutes or the beginning of a decline that Madrid had spotted and sold us a dummy.

So glad it seems to be the former. We saw glimpses in the last couple of games but last night was a brilliant performance both on and off the ball. Finally a world class CDM after all these years.

Must admit I was not impressed with him in the first few performances, sloppy on the ball, slow and easily dispossessed but he now seems up to speed with the intensity of the league is proving why hes world class. Still think theirs another bit to get from him but he changed my opinion on him, he looks like he wants to be here and not just for a pay cheque.

Hes improved the midfield around him as well, Fred has looked good, its allowed Eriksen more freedom and time on the ball, even the defence is more solid.

By all accounts he's a really good professional who would never just 'phone-in' performances and pick-up a pay cheque every week

Have to remember, as crap as we've been lately, Casemiro is 30 so he'll have grown-up with United being the best or second best team in the World for a 4/5 year period in his teens

There are other reasons player would still want to join us beyond money, just like if I was ever good enough I'd have loved to play for someone like Juventus/Barcelona/AC Milan/Madrid for 2/3 years because they were the big 'romantic' European clubs when I was growing up

he should have plenty of miles left in his tank after wasting so much of his career in a shit league for a shit team.

He's going to score an absolutely daft goal for us at some point.

The technique on that shot (with his weaker foot!) was something else.

The slating of him in here was as daft as what is reserved for Sancho, not even worth arguing against.

What is now coming to fruition is his understanding of his team-mates, the pace of the league and just how much he needs to extend himself. Casemiro has said he will give everything to a team that he can in relation to what his remit should be and he's in the swing of doing that now by being expansive with his passing. If we had a pair like Madrid did, he'd not be so forceful with his use of the ball.

His intelligence and understanding of play and how best to exploit it on both sides of the ball drags us up a level and should be an absolute boon for any midfielder at the club willing to look, listen and learn. One of the best things about a proven world-class player is that they are an infinite resource for others and I really hope our midfielders can use him as a platform for their own games to go up a notch and try and meet his bar with their own contribution.

There are pages and pages to be written about how things are developing between he and the CB's and the offensive positions and proactive movements and motions they are enabling each other to take up. Casemiro fills in instaneously when a CB breaks rank and keeps the line far higher than it otherwise could or would be. It's allowing us the chance to squeeze the life out of the midfield threat and play 10+ yards further upfield. Martinez is able to spread his wings further and we have three players sitting deep who are hitting passes now at any given moment. Tactically, it's incredibly hard to stop because the outlet ball simply switches to another from the trio. It answers the question of whether Casemiro is suited to ten Hag ball perfectly and it's very encouraging to think this is just the beginning with them learning what each others idiosyncrasies are (more for Martinez as the other two have years of exp playing together).

Nothing but positive things to take from the game. Let's see if it carries over for a third league game in a row. What's also really pleasing is it's happening against top 6-8 teams and not the lower profile sides. Very good omens and long may it continue.

Top performance from a top player. Him signing for us is also great for the younger players (especially midfielders) coming through who will learn alot from Casemiro's experience in the coming years.

Good post, i didn't know his weaker foot was so good. He was passing with his weaker foot without making any adjustments and his shot with his weaker foot was such a clean hit.

He's getting up to speed isn't he?

He and Eriksen fill me with confidence. They see the pass without having to take 2 or 3 touches once they're in the groove.

We've not really had anyone who can zip it around quickly from deep since Carrick. Even if it's a 10 yard pass into a winger, full back or Bruno, it just maintains the momentum. The McFred pairing was always a 2-3 touch wait until something happened and it was so predictable.

Completely agree with all of that. He's just pure class. We have a back three in Casemiro, Varane and Martinez which is like two Rolls Royce's and a Lamborghini. It just gives the rest of the team so much confidence.

Also a side note; if Instagram is anything to go by then his family are settling into the country quite well, which is great to see.

I knew he could be expansive, but he has more in his locker than I thought. He’s the epitome of a player that does what his team needs him to do with no fuss and plenty of humility, which makes him a fantastic asset and complementary piece.

It will be interesting to see whether the manager actively encourages him to continue to be expansive even with Eriksen on the pitch or whether he’s allowed to rein it back in. We need as much independent ball-progression as possible, so it would be better for us if he carries on in the same vein.

I think it allows Fred to do what he does best and motor round the field without having to protect the defence. I just wish Fred could actually shoot.

Do you see how fired up they get each other? Martinez is barking away and the other two chime in! It’s infectious and a real sign of camaraderie, which I think we’ve forgotten what that looks like, but are getting into the swing of things with them! The confidence thing - I really think is rubbing off on others; the pride in performance and contribution to the cause - even Shaw is switched on lately and getting praise for it every step of the way. And Dave is coming out of his shell, too.

It’s like the formation of a true backline for the first time in almost a decade. Really does make you want to cheer for them. :D

Loving last night's performance. It wasn't even like he was playing out of his skin, he had this "all in a days work" vibe about him that makes me confident he'll be doing it over the entire season.

Great performance - he's getting up to speed now!

I suspect some of the drama llamas in here feel awfully silly today.

He was magnificent last night. Like watching the Casemiro of Madrid finally arrive on the scene. Finally a CM that we can say was class above the opposition ones. he made their trio look like amateurs on occasions.

Fantastic to have him on the team. What an upgrade he is.

Really happy to have him. Definitely the best 6 in the world by far.

He was a one man midfield yesterday with Fred pushing so high up the field, he bossed it against Tottenham's 3 man midfield.
Ive never seen our midfielders pick balls off opponents strikers, dint give Kane a sniff of a chance, it was something new to watch.

Would have been similar to watching City school us last year, we wouldn't have had a kick.

Nice to see people appreciate why technical quality matters so much, even in a DM. Everyone likes to think McT could "do a job" there or that we should have bought some standard hardman tackler years back, but to play at the highest levels everyone has to be comfortable with the ball at their feet and receiving under pressure.

Also shows how unbelievably good that Madrid midfield was that unknowing football fans just figured he was a hardman tackler just because he played next to two generational midfielders.

I knew his passing was better than what people were thinking but even then I've been surprised.

I always envied City having Fernandinho cuz he would just sit and connect everything. Casemiro is every bit the same.

It’s also not true anyway because Mourinho came in and bought Matic, a DM of great repute.

I think only Ole didn't sign a DM.

Moyes signed Fellaini and at that time Fellaini said he wanted to play as defensive mid.

Van Gaal signed Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger. In his first season he also signed Blind who was a defensive mid.

Jose signed Matic.

EtH signed Casemiro.

It's just that Fellaini was better higher up the pitch, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger were poor signings, Matic levels dropped after 6 months.

I hope Casemiro can do a job for 3 or 4 years and in that time we find a replacement. To think at one point itooked like James Garner was touted for the role :nervous:
