Can a win be a loss? Poll | Hypothetical: United and Liverpool win, or Chelsea and Real Madrid win?

What would you prefer?

Actually it's not a good thing at all. Feck English football. I think most of us care only about United winning anyway. There are better ways to motivate the players than hearing "6 times" the whole next season and then forever.
Very much this, who cares about the rest of English football.

Break the TV deal and become the Bayern of the EPL.

I think it would be a good thing if Liverpool wins the CL, even though doubt they will eliminate As Roma.

First of all, it would be a good thing for english football, considering that in last 5 years the best performance was City's SF against Real. It would be a step forward.

Secondly, I think a rival winning CL would be a motivator factor for United, for both players and board, who could, hypothetically, splash serious money in order to achieve the same performance.

Finally, with no relation to Liverpool, I just hope Real doesn't do it again. I utterly tired of spanish winning it over and over again.

That is just wrong. Incest level wrong.

As much as I love a trophy, especially fond of FA Cup, I would gladly forgo this for Liverpool geting eliminated at semis.

Your worst enemy gets to sleep with a famous model and you get her fat old age aunt or nothing......hmmmmm nothing.
A strange comparison — I'm sure all of us would've liked to "sleep with an fat old age aunt" if Liverpool won't win the CL

The only English football I care about is one that involves Utd.

If our board/players need Liverpool winning the CL to motivate themselves, we're fecked. Thankfully, our spending clearly shows our board mean business and arent waiting for a Pool winning the CL to wake up.

Anyone who can beat the enemy is a friend.

Roma to win CL. Man Utd to win the FA cup.

I'd vote for this but I don't see this (perfectly feasible) option.

Football is all about your teams success and never about what others have, or are, doing. To hope for, or deny yourself success, to stop another team being successful, is the worst case of cutting your nose off to spite your face, ever.

It's all about the glory and to hell with the rest.

To hell with that.

And that’s the polite version!

Change the poll to Utd win the league (still mathematically possible) and Liverpool win the CL and there might be a contest

Personally I don't mind who wins it if it isn't United, as long as it isn't a premier league rival, barcelona or real madrid, i cant stand the 2 clubs, much rather juventus or bayern or milan if it had to be not united but still a big team winning it.

An FA Cup win is not worth Liverpool becoming the 3rd most successful club ever in the European cup or them having twice as many European cups as us.

Mods: is it possible to calculate the average age of each set of voters?

I’m wondering whether us oldsters who remember the days when the Cup was more prestigious than it’s been in recent years have been more inclined to vote for option 1.

Cutting one’s nose off to spite one’s face seems a bit small time and City to me.

Swap Liverpool and Real and I'd have to think about it, but I still prefer United winning something and Liverpool winning something over not winning at all. It seems a bit petty.

Must be a cultural thing though.

Instant, absolute no-brainer. The only thing United have left to do, on the grandscale of things in domestic football is become the number #1 in CL's held.

Liverpool are still seen as the #1 club by some due to their EC haul.

A "5" turning to a "6" whilst we languish at half that amount would be a disaster.

At the rate we win EC's, it would take 50 years to match... :nervous::nervous: and that's assuming Liverpool didn't add more in the meantime.

Nothing could ruin the season for me more than them winning the CL.

The FA Cup was once a treasured trophy. The FA have ruined its prestige and it's now an afterthought in the grandscheme. It's great to have in isolation, but if winning it meant them getting their hands on a major at the same time, it's better to not have it at all.

Liverpool winning the CL would be seriously bad new for next season's PL. Think we'd be in for a bad time with them and City obviously strengthening in the summer. All we could hope for is Klopp goes full Benitez and decides to sign Eastern European kids off the back of a CL win instead of some European heavyweights.

Not really interested who wins the trophys we have went out off, would prefer pool not to win it coz my mates would not shut up about it but would still want the team to win the FA Cup. might not be a major cup but still better then losing in a final.

A win is a win. Can't belive how bitter we've become. The club of our status should have more CL and I firmly belive that we can get there. Liverpool getting number 6 should not stop us from winning the league and eventually the CL again

The two clubs in the Champions League final are footballing royalty. I won't begrudge either side winning, particularly for the way both these clubs reacted after the Munich Air Disaster.

Personally, I love a strong Premier League, with the world's top players and managers.

I hope Arsenal win the Europa League, because it would be great to have 5 English teams in the Champions League again, and it'd be a fitting send-off for Wenger. I support Manchester United, and I want us to win the biggest competitions, but I want to do it against the very best.

Next season we could be playing:
Man City (Double Winners, and press appointed "best team ever")
Liverpool (Champions of Europe)
Arsenal (Europa League holders)
Spurs (The Harry Claim team)
Chelsea (Previous Champions)

That's a league worth winning... and with a few shrewd signings, and a bit of luck... we can.

Anyone who doesn't mind Liverpool winning is no United fan.

Easy decision this.

Liverpool winning the UCL will be one of the worst days for me as football fan, and they are going into a final against a very suspect Madrid side. So this is a big possibility.

This even feels worse than 2014, and that sucked big time.

Why? Because I care more about a cup final we are playing than a match we're not even involved in?

I'm an adult, I can take a bit of stick at work, I want to win the cup!

I want Manchester United to win, not Real Madrid.

I know that many here are simply weighing the value of the two competitions, but I will always choose a win for Manchester United, and have never wanted our club to lose a match. I've never wanted us to lose so we could get rid of a manager, or so that we could concentrate more on other competitions... I always want Manchester United to win all their games. It baffles me that any fan thinks differently.

Who do I want to win the FA Cup? Manchester United.
Who do I want to win the Champions League? Manchester United (even if it looks a long shot this year being out & all)

My love for this club so vastly outweighs any feeling I have for any other club, that all other clubs (except Coleraine FC - sentimental reasons) verge on irrelevancy to me. Any respect I have for the two clubs in the Champions League final (unless Roma does the impossible again) is linked to Manchester United. It's how they treated us after the Munich Air Disaster, when other clubs, and even the FA seemed not to care.

I'm not going to support Liverpool on the day, I don't on any day.

I want us to get the credit we deserve. If my wish for each individual match comes to pass and we win the Quadruple (+the charity shield) without dropping a point next season. I don't want to hear about a weak Premier League. Let the media build them all up all they can... and let's smash 'em all next season!

Apparently, I'm not a Manchester United supporter though.

But I don't want to argue Cal? - so as a peace offering... if you send me your home address I'll buy you a half/half Chelsea and Real Madrid scarf. That way you can show us all what a United fan you are.

No holds barred there

Saw this on Twitter the other day.

IMO anyone voting both to win is a retard.

feck the FA cup. For them to win another European cup would be disastrous

feck THE FA CUP

Liverpool can't win another European cup at all costs

Where in the above post did you say anything about "I care more about a cup final we are playing than a match we're not even involved in"?

You made it sound like you were just talking about not minding them winning in general.

The bolded part, that's all very well, but in that situation you have no control over what happens, we might lose and the manager still doesn't get sacked. However, in the hypothetical of this thread, you have control over what happens. You may value an FA Cup over the utterly dire situation of 6 times la, which is a minority opinion, but a fair enough one.

Why Chelsea?? I'm openly supporting Real Madrid till Kiev.

Banned

I would take the FA Cup. To say you would rather lose the FA Cup if that meant Liverpool don't win the CL feels incredibly Small time IMO.

Don't care if it's small time.

We had better win the FA Cup if we have to suffer the scum winning a 6th CL.

Love for United > Hate for Liverpool

I don't believe it that more than 75 % would prefer us losing just that Liverpool also loses. Yeah, i also hate Liverpool but what the feck? If you ask that about mickey mouse cup i will think about it, but Fa Cup is still Fa Cup.

First of all i follow United because i love them, not to hate other clubs. Even if they are shit.

I didn't think I had to say it, because I'm a United fan I feel that should be obvious. United matches are the ones I care about the most.

We sold Ronaldo, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy & Heinze to Real Madrid for a total of around £120m... they earned half of that back selling us Di Maria, and have actively tried to unsettle De Gea to the point they almost stole him too. How you could support that is beyond me, and it's everything that's wrong with politics. They are at best a lesser evil. Combine that with Conte beating us in the cup final... awesome

I may be in the minority here, but I want United to win.

The result reflects poorly on us as people. Currently it stands at 78% of people wanting both to win nothing.

I was raised to not wish ill on others, to not take joy in the hardships of others and to be thankful for what I have.

Liverpool deserve to be in the CL final, they played thier matches much better than we did. We took 6 points off them this season yet we had our pants taken down by a no mark Sevilla team. It's our teams fault it's not in that final.

Have some class, self respect... etc
