Can a win be a loss? Poll | Hypothetical: United and Liverpool win, or Chelsea and Real Madrid win?

What would you prefer?

Currently Arsenal are holders for most FA Cup wins with 13, followed by United with 12. The 2004 penalty loss to them still tugs at me. So it’d actually be an important milestone win for the club.

The fact that so many have focused on Liverpool’s possibly winning 6 CLs while we could be tied for most FA Cup wins seems odd...
Moving level with Arsenal on FA Cup wins mean feck all compared to Liverpool moving onto DOUBLE our CL wins. :nervous:

I'll be jumping naked on the top of the roof if Roma knocks them out.

24 people (encounting) opting for Liverpool to win the CL. Doesn't add up.

Didn't we agree that oppo's are not allowed to vote in order to avoid the poll getting skewed?

At least LFCKop & Finn MacCool are Liverpool fans amongst them

Tbf to the minority that opted that way, they say they care only about United.

Personally, CL final is a practically final kick of the season and I just can't stand them winning it for the 6th time and that shit being the last picture of this season.
Ok, we will have FA Cup, but on the other hand, City will be champion of England and Liverpool champion of Europe. No, thanks.

So let’s focus on supporting United in winning 4 more CLs. Liverpool will always have more champions leagues until we start winning more of them.

If seeing them be successful is so hard to take now, it’s earned from complacency of the club. The garbage transfers for years when we had a manager and team that should have won us a few more CLs. Then hiring the former Everton manager with an absolute garbage record against pool. We have taken multiple steps back from our 2008 win. The focus should be competing rather than Liverpool losing. They’ve earned the right to chase another after years of rubbish club management themselves while the fans spent too much time worrying about United catching up to their titles. Let’s not go down that path ourselves

In Bulgaria we have been known sometimes to prefer seeing our rivals down rather than us succeeding. There is a very good story about this:
A farmer caught the gold fish which of course promised him to make three wishes come through if he releases her.
"What is your wish number 1" asked the gold fish
"My neighbour Bill's cow to die so he can no longer produce milk" answered the farmer.
"Done. The cow is now dead" replied the gold fish. "What is the next wish?"
"My neighbour John's cow to die as I don't want him to produce milk as well"
"Done. What is your third wish? Anything for you" asked the fish for the last time
"I want now my cow to die too" said suddenly the farmer
"Are you sure? Why do you need this?"
"Cause I don't want these motherf*ckers to have a place to buy milk from" said the farmer with a smile

I've never been understanding why being a fan might mean hating the rivals more than loving the club you support. Whatever L'pool achieves this would set the bar higher and push us to succeed in future. Look what SAF did just to catch their titles record. I am sure that we are one of the greatest clubs in the world not without the help of l'pool. Support your club more than hating the rivals. Focus on your team's success rather than on your rival's failure. Yet I know that some people will feel better if they see Pool loosing rather than us winning which is a bit odd at least to say...

Pretty grim I have to say.

The blue part is very true.

The red part not so much, they've earned the right, but that doesn't mean we should not want them to lose.

@palavra_united
The trophies in question make the whole difference. An FA Cup is nice to win, but nothing special, really. The CL is the major trophy. I'd much rather forgo winning a minor cup if it meant Liverpool did not collect another CL.

Haha I want them to lose! :) But just not at the cost of United not winning the FA Cup

That works only for trophies on a comparable level, not the CL compared to the FA Cup.

Liverpool to win the league cup/FA cup and United to win the other next year? Sure, why not.

Liverpool to win the Premier League and United to win the league cup? No thanks

I always want us to win.
Even if it's Liverpool winning, is something beyond our control.

If they fecking win it I'm avoiding everything that's remotely football related until the WC. Option two every day of the week. Only the top of the top reds would say otherwise.

But in this hypothetical scenario, its in our hands. just forgo the FA cup, and voila liverpool won't win the CL. or something like that..

Iv seen Liverpool win five European cups and I'm still alive and I look back and care more about all the trophies we have won instead .

Therefore I couldn't care less what happens Liverpool so long as we win the FA Cup ..I don't care what it is you don't take winning trophies for granted .

Every cup won for Utd is a happy memory

Never thought the thought of winning a major trophy would make me sick.

feck that!

Exactly how I feel.

This is just modern day mentality. I could do up a 100 question math exam, and make 99 of the questions extremely complex and get all of them right, and then mistakingly put that 4+4 = 9. So many people would pick out that mistake, instead of focusing on the fact I just got 99% on an exam.

There is no right answer here, really.

But the wrong one has Liverpool winning the CL.

Indeed. Also, thanks for reminding me how my parents reacted to my straight A's in school..."not enough A+" :(

FA Cup means very little to me whereas the Champions League is the pinnacle of club football. Ergo, this is one of the rare scenarios where you can claim I hate Liverpool more than I love United.

I rather us finish 4th and behind Liverpool, than them winning the CL....

I find it absurd that it is more important for people that Liverpool loses than that Utd wins.

European Cups and CL titles are one of the markers of greatness. Clearly they're very difficult to win, and Liverpool winning another making it 6 would temper the years of dominating them in the league. Not cool.

I find it absurd that people would accept a Liverpool victory in the CL just for an FA Cup.

Hard question, because as much as I’d cry myself to sleep over Liverpool winning a 6th CL, I wouldn’t mind seeing United win something this season.

Went with option 2 though. feck that.

6 times la.

Imagine hearing that on never-ending loop, attacking your brain relentlessly, wearing you down, destroying your inner being.

It would never stop. Ever.
Sounds dreadful. But Liverpool aren't even in the final yet. Do not take the grief in advance.

I think it would be a good thing if Liverpool wins the CL, even though doubt they will eliminate As Roma.

First of all, it would be a good thing for english football, considering that in last 5 years the best performance was City's SF against Real. It would be a step forward.

Secondly, I think a rival winning CL would be a motivator factor for United, for both players and board, who could, hypothetically, splash serious money in order to achieve the same performance.

Finally, with no relation to Liverpool, I just hope Real doesn't do it again. I utterly tired of spanish winning it over and over again.

Option 1. I wanna see United keep on winning trophies thats all.

Actually it's not a good thing at all. Feck English football. I think most of us care only about United winning anyway. There are better ways to motivate the players than hearing "6 times" the whole next season and then forever.

I swear I literally asked you this about 10 minutes before the other guy posted his question. Very weird!

I said I care about my team more, not that I want you to win it at all in the manner he said.

Oh I know that, I wasn't say your answer was very weird! I was saying this situation is very weird, just feels like a very strange coincidence that this was asked like 10 minutes after I asked you! Least I got my answer :')

Sorry, got you know.

Well you predicted the importance of this question first then. Credit for you. :D
