i really dont understand this. i care about my club and what they do. I don't give a feck who wins we don't. If I was given City win the FA Cup, but United win the CL, Prem and League Cup or both win nothing. I'd still take us winning the FA Cup. My support for my club should be greater than my dislike of my rivals. Personally even though they knocked us out I'd like to see Liverpool or Roma (because of the ex City players) win the CL. I don't care who wins the FA Cup.

A trophy for City means more to me than seeing United struggle. I'd take a league cup (even though it means feck all) and United winning the treble over us winning nothing in a heartbeat.

It's this faux obsession with trying to prove how much of a 'top red' you are. We had some people on here who even wanted Liverpool to get beat by Chelsea a good few years back when a Chelsea win all but confirmed them winning the title, and a Liverpool win (with them lingering in 7th and nothing to play for) giving us a huge chance of winning the league. It's strange.

Perhaps you don't get the competitive nature of our 20-3 and their 18-5. It's about being the most successful club in the country.

Because I'm more of a United fan than a Liverpool hater.
But a Liverpool CL win does a lot more damage to United than the benefits of a FA Cup.

No, nothing to do with Ronaldo in this instance.

I've explained many times that my biggest dream for United is to see them move up terms of EC/CL record.

So, other than not wanting to see any other English club (particularly Liverpool) win it, the clubs that I do not want to see win it are: Barca, Bayern, Ajax, Inter and Juve, because those are the ones we have the potential to catch/catch us.

I don't think there's any chance of catching Real in my lifetime. Milan are a strange case, whilst there's some very tiny hope of catching them, it's still unlikely.

Ok, understandable. I guess if it goes to Real-Roma final, you'll be cheering for Roma then?

Them having won nothing, being a great story, kicking Liverpool out and so on.

This discussion and the hypothetical scenario obviously means nada, but it’s so frustrating that people can’t be pragmatic and see this

That is true buddy but a trophy is a trophy. I don't get why you care about Liverpool. You are United. Maybe its because you guys aren't used of seeing your rivals have better seasons. As a City fan, I suppose I had no choice but to make peace with United winning shitloads years ago...

Still I'd rather a trophy in my cabinet than somewhere else, regardless of what the others achieve.

Obviously, I don't prefer Liverpool win anything, but I definitely prefer us winning the FA Cup. What Liverpool do is none of my concern, yes there will be gnashing of teeth for sometime but I definitely want to win some silverware this season

If that happens I'd prefer Real 100% due to Ronaldo. :D

If it was a league, I would take United winning it and pool getting the CL. As it is though, a second rate trophy isn’t worth them pulling even further ahead than us in European cups.
Oh yea absolutely. CL might be more prestigious but the satisfaction of winning the league is quite unparalleled.

Because being the most successful club in the country means more than the odd FA Cup, and basically that's mostly decided by the PL/CL.

You think a Liverpool team pulling off a shock CL win is going to matter long term. The trajectories of both teams is what will matter and both are on the up regardless, I think given the Ronaldo/Messi thread and this, you just put a lot more importance on the CL than I do buddy. yes its the bigger trophy but its not that much bigger I'd rather see my own team fail to stop a rival achieving it. I guess this is where we agree to disagree.

Of course it would! They could claim 6-3 in terms of European Cups, ffs! Those wins doesn’t expire, you know. It would be a disaster.

Apologies mods I had a senior moment and went ahead and voted. Its really only for Utd fans - so please cancel my vote.

Yes, having that lot have DOUBLE the number of CLs we've ever won is a nightmare.

Given the rarity of CL wins, most of us have only seen 2 CL wins in our lifetime, 1 makes a huge difference.

Plus the fact they move into 3rd place in the all time list is also annoying.

I want United to win trophies. Above all.

The only "damage" Liverpool's number 6 could do to our club is in the heads of some fans.

(Also, I'm lucky enough to not have to deal with more than a couple of Liverpool fans in my life, and they're not the scouse, unbearable sort. So I don't really need to care so much.)

STRONGLY disagree ;)

They'd have pretty reasonable ground to claim to be the most successful English club. :nono:

In a few years/decades who will care about the '18 FA cup winner? CL winner though.....

6 times la.

Imagine hearing that on never-ending loop, attacking your brain relentlessly, wearing you down, destroying your inner being.

It would never stop. Ever.

Would you cut your nose to spite your face?

As much fun as it would be to see the Scouser's lose, why bother caring what anyone else gets up to. We should be concerned about what we do and setting our own standards, if the FA Cup helps us achieve greater things in the future then I'm all for it. The FA Cup isn't what it was but why not aim for the best we can get this season?

I am a bit torn on this one. I always want us to win the big trophies, but I don't see the FA cup as one nowadays, even Wenger has won 3 of the last five. On the other hand, what we gain by losing the FA cup is Klopp flashing his yellow teeth and laughing at a few Liverpool fans make fools of themselves over at RAWK.

I'm sorry but if Pool have to win the CL for us to win the cup, then so be it. Never seen myself as a top red, can't pretend to be one now.

Saying that, hopefully Roma stuffs them and their bus smashing fans have a taste of Roman ultras, let's see how hardcore they really are.

I guess I’m still bitter at heart because I would happily watch David De Gea miss a rabona penalty and then John Terry return to score the winning goal in an FA cup final shootout than see Liverpool touch that trophy again.

Us to win and Liverpool to win please.

I don't really have anything against Liverpool these days - it's hard to dislike (m)any of them post Gerrard - and having other teams competing across all competitions and bringing better players into the league as a result will only make our eventual return to winning ways more enjoyable.

And ultimately I just want us to win. I won't get any joy watching Liverpool lose.

Don’t understand why people wouldn’t want us to win the Fa cup.. Simply put my love for United winning is greater than my hate for Liverpool winning

Exactly how I feel.

Currently Arsenal are holders for most FA Cup wins with 13, followed by United with 12. The 2004 penalty loss to them still tugs at me. So it’d actually be an important milestone win for the club.

The fact that so many have focused on Liverpool’s possibly winning 6 CLs while we could be tied for most FA Cup wins seems odd...

Very adult and "reasonable" thinking.

I'll be jumping naked on the top of the roof if Roma knocks them out.

Liverpool winning the CL would be a blessing in disguise.

One of my best experiences as a United fan was going to Wembley for the first time two years ago to see us play in the FA Cup semis and final. Being there to see United lift a trophy live for the first time was magical for me, even if it was "only" the FA Cup. Although my fondest memory from my first two visits to Wembley was Martial's goal against Everton and singing his song with the rest of the fans outside the stadium and all the way home.

So yeah, I'd love to see United win another FA Cup even if it somehow meant Liverpool winning the CL, simply because the feelings I'd get from seeing us win another trophy would far outweigh any feelings I had for seeing them win another CL.
