BVB (Bottlespielverein Borussia Dortmund) watch | You love to see it | Absolute weapons

Absolutely true. Everyone buys from smaller clubs. Bayern gets singled out since they are the only tier 1 club in Germany and have a history of "dismantling" a rival.
Without the Leverkusen (20+ years ago) and Dortmund (10+ years ago) incidents, no one would care about them buying from the Bundesliga. By now it is a cheap throw away comment since other German clubs are way "worse" in buying from smaller domestic clubs.
But enough of this highjack!

Highlights from Pathum United vs. Dortmund:

No one going to mention Pathan United captain looking like a leprechaun next to the Dortmund players there :o

Wait a minute. Dortmund have signed Guirassy and Anton from Stuttgart but Bayern signing Ito is them stealing from their rivals?

It's ironic that we're having this discussion in the Dortmund thread, who are far more guilty of buying from their rivals than Bayern. Almost all of their team is build on the bones of their rivals.

If I can use @AfonsoAlves logic for just their current squad.

Korbel (most talented young goalkeeper in the Bundesliga)
Schloterbeck (most talented CB in the Bundesliga when bought)
Ryerson (best defender in Union Berlin when they were challenging for top 4)
Sule (bought for free from Bayern, top CB and German international)
Ozcan (talented young CM from Koln)
Brandt (best midfielder in Leverkusen, their top 4 rival)
Bensabaini (bought for free best defender for Gladbach)
Nmecha (most talented young CM in Bundesliga)
Guirassy (best striker in BL last season from title rival)
Anton (best CB for title rival)
Fullkrug (best German striker)

Absolute disgrace to balance in the BL. Buying the best players from other teams.

While that doesn't shed the best of light on Dortmund to say the least, Bayern isn't much better. They are constantly targeting Leipzig's best assets and if there is confirmed interest in at least Wirtz, Tah and Frimpong. Were alsoninterested in Havertz. So it's not as if they weren't trying.

Kobel was also from Stuttgart, which I had forgotten.
Freiburg must kinda hate them as well: Schlotterbeck, Philipp, Ginter and Bürki over the last 10 years.

What the hell this is a ridiculous claim.

2024 Transfers -> Linked to Jonathan Tah, the best defender of the team who beat Bayern in the league. Bought Ito, the best defender of the team that finished 2nd place.

2023 Transfers -> Bought Leipzig's (3rd) 2nd best midfielder on a free, took Dortmund (2nd, by the bearest of margins)'s best fullback on a free.

2022 Transfers -> Nothing of note

2021 Transfers -> Took their closest rival Leipzigs best defender, best midfielder and their manager in the same window

2020 Transfers -> Nothing of note

2019 Transfers -> Best midfielder in Bundesliga that year on a free transfer.

2018 Transfers -> Sule, Rudy and Wagner from 4th place Hoffenheim

2017 Transfers -> Dortmunds best defender

2016 Transfers -> Kimmich (though not really Bayerns rivals that year), and Ulreich too.

2015 Transfers -> Dortmunds best striker and best striker in the division

2014 Transfers -> Dortmunds best midfielder

2013 Transfers -> wolfsburgs best striker and Gladbachs best defender

2012 Transfers -> Neuer, who had gotten his club to the CL Semi Final

I can't be bothered to go deeper, but in the past 12 years, you've signed 18 of the league Top 4's best players. 18

This is the equivalent of City buying from Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd every season.
so in 5 years between 2019 and 2024, Bayern bought a whooping total of 2 players from 1 league rival, now Ito made that 3.
Whereas BVB bought Anton, Guirassy, Nmecha, Schlotterbeck, Füllkrug, Hazard, Schulz, Brandt, Hummels, Wolf and Delaney in the same period.
Yep totally proves your point, i was wrong.

I think what really highlights how bad Dortmund has been run in the past few years is their squad management and transfer business in the striker position. A quick recap:

1. Dortmund's future in the striker position looks excellent after the signing of Erling Haaland and a promising debut season of Moukoko who became the league's youngest goal scorer at 16 years and 28 days of age
2. Haaland leaves and Dortmund decides that then18 year old Moukoko isn't ready to be their first striker yet
3. They sign Sebastian Haller for an immense package of around €80m p. a. over 5 years
4. Haller becomes sick with cancer and is out for an uncertain amount of time (nobody to blame for that) so Dortmund signs Anthony Modeste as his replacement irritating Moukoko so they increase his salary to €8.5m p. a. after ~2000 minutes of professional football
6. Moukoko has a run of good games but overall Terzic keeps picking the terribly performing Haller and even Modeste ahead of him, reportedly because Moukoko isn't enough of a physical presence upfront.
8. They get rid of Modeste and sign Füllkrug as the new striker #1, worsening Moukoko's standing even further.
9. After a decent but not brillant season by Füllkrug, they sign golden boot runner up Serhou Guirassy, making Moukoko #4 in the pecking order
10. Now they have to sell either Haller or Moukoko but nobody wants to pay their wages.

Completely absurd. Way to burn money.

The only difference is that Bayern are operating from a position of strength as by far the biggest club in Germany, so when they do it it comes across as them tightening their stranglehold on German football.

But let's not pretend that what they're doing is different from what most clubs look to do. Buy the best players you can attract, which usually means targeting the best players from clubs below you.

It happens in England too, although the wealth across premier league clubs puts them in a better position to hold out.

Are they seriously paying Moukoko €8.5m?

According to Sport Bild, yes. It would explain as well why he wants to stay despite his situation.
Oh, absolutely! That is almost as bad as giving Goretzka and Gnabry €18m a year. But nobody would dare to be so stupid... :nervous:

Yes, that's crazy stuff as well! But at least Bayern is playing their overpaid players (when they're fit, that is). I mean, Terzic ignored Moukoko either because he thought he couldn't play as a single striker or because he thought Moukoko was simply not good enough to start, not even in a wide position or something like that. In both cases, it is a completely bizarre decision to pay him this much.

Had no idea Haller got cancer. Was wondering why he just disappeared so to speak after being in stellar form at Ajax. feck cancer.

2-0 down to Bochum after 21 minutes... it certainly looks like they're headed to a new low fast.

I've thought for a while that ten Hag would make a good Dortmund manager and I'm not saying this because I want rid of him.

He could be out of a job soon and BVB could be looking for a new manager

Fair play to them, at least they got their shit together in the second half.

I just don't understand German fans.
It's been a decade since they have last been serious rivals and contenders (if we disregard the horrid season we won on GD, where both teams were dogshit and didn't deserve the title).
I'd love to hate them again, but they need to step up to earn that.

I just don't understand German fans.

I don't get that sentiment to be honest. Isn't it exhausting to be so negative every time you see a rival play?

Don't get me wrong, there are times when I begrudge other teams but usually there has to be a reason for it. Like a nasty recent match, a comment by a club official or a friend who supports them and has become pretty annoyinh etc.

Which was?

Can't find it but it was when Sancho was rumoured to be coming here (the summer before he joined) and they announced him signing an extension to his contract with the phrase "you love to see it".

Riled up everyone here

EDIT: found it

Ah yes I remember this now.

Not sure Sancho would have helped their cause if he was still in their squad today

Edit: The thread title change

It wasn’t the love to see it, I think it was after we signed him and they said something like good luck in the Europa League.

One of the club with such a lack of self awareness about their status in the world football and often run their mouth. You love to see it.
