Bundesliga 2016/17

BT commentators were sucking up to Bayern all game. I need to wash my ears!

1. RB Leipzig 27 pts
2. FC Bayern 24 pts
3. BVB 21 pts
4. 1. FC Köln 21 pts

Hoffenheim can go to 23 pts tomorrow though.

That's the biggest disgrace. This embodiment of footballing eyecancer called Kölle actually gathered 21 pts so far. Yuck:p

Ancelotti is a really poor league manager. Three league titles in his career despite being in charge of Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid since 1999 before coming to Bayern. We might actually get a new Bundesliga winner this season with Leipzig doing a Kaiserslautern.

To be fair to Ancelotti that squad looks pretty burned out at the moment, it seems like they still rely a lot on their old guard (Lahm 33, Xabi 34, Ribery 33, Robben 32), Müller has his first real form crisis and on top that they are troubled by injuries. Some sort of hangover from the intensity and dominance of Pep might also be a factor.

I think they are doing a decent job of patching over certain issues with their squad, but in the end they need world class attackers to take over from Robben/Ribery if they want to keep their status and they haven't signed any yet.

Just like that, Hoffenheim have turned it around. 2-1.

We seem to be cursed this season. Horrible mistake from our 2nd goalie. Adler would've saved that.

Back to 2-2 now.

Very poor goalkeeping, yeah.

First game I've seen of Hamburg this year but they don't look like a team that'd be bottom of the Bundesliga. Where specifically has it gone wrong?

It's difficult to pinpoint really. On paper we kept all of our most important players (Müller, Holtby, Ekdal, Adler) and even spent big money to bring in high quality players like Kostic, Douglas Santos, Bobby Wood and Halilovic. The strategy was to ship out the deadwood and bring in young players, maybe the team is just too inexperienced? That seems like a silly excuse though as most players are used to playing in the Bundesliga.

As usual we had a really rough start to the season. A lot of key players being injured certainly didn't help. We were effectively playing without any proper center backs at times, our midfield duo of Holtby and Ekdal were also not available at the start.
After the 60th minute our players seemed to lose concentration. We conceded 0 goals in the first half in the first 6(?) games, around 15 goals in the second half. That is simply atrocious and frustrating since we were at least on par in most games.

In addition, our players also seemed to be frustrated and picked up quite a few red cards. We played with 10 men against Gladbach, Frankfurt and Cologne. We were really good against Cologne until one of our played smashed an elbow into an opponent's face...
Add in the obligatory manager change after five games and it's just a complete horror start to the season.
It's a shame really because I think this team has massive potential. Not top 5 material but there are way worse teams in the League.

 Just saw the league table. Who the hell is RasenBallsport Leipzig and how in the world are they ahead of Bayern?

I've honestly never heard of them.

In short, it's Red Bull's main football club. They weren't allowed to call it Red Bull Leipzig, because the sponsor can't be part of the name in Germany, so they called it Rasen Ballsport (Rasen = turf). That way they can use RB Leipzig as the name.

Red Bull founded the club in 2009, they had to start in the 5th league and got promoted almost every year. Last season they finally got promoted to the Bundesliga and are now in their first season. They've spent quite a bit of money, but don't buy established players, only talents younger than 24. It's a very young team full of potential with a great young coach. I don't think anyone expected them to do that well though.

Wow, that's impressive! Cheers, Balu.

You guys must be slacking to be behind them though, surely? Carlo :(

Yeah, Carlo isn't doing all that well at the moment. Still early in the season of course, I'll start worrying if we're still behind in March.

5 teams on 21 points behind Leipzig (27) and Bayern (24) is kinda fun. The race for the CL and EL spots might be even more intense than in the last years because I don't think Gladbach, Schalke and Leverkusen will stay where they are right now and I can't see Köln and Hoffenheim dropping to midtable based on what they showed so far. Both teams are doing a fantastic job this season.

Leipzig not lettting up. 3-1 up at Freiburg, who were 4-0-1 at home. Werner now with 7 goals in 12 games. Given how much of a need striker is in Germany, and how quickly other young guys like Henrichs, Sule or Gnabry get invitations it´s time.

Really like Forsberg as a player. Keita and Werner are quality as well.

Has Burke been getting enough minutes on the pitch since his summer move?

Because everyone else is doing shit. By everyone else I mean Bayern.
Leipzig has 9 wins and 3 draws. Their excellent start to the season has nothing to do with Bayern. Their results are absolutely sensational.

Is this a genuine fairytale Leicester-style story or are they the German Man City?

Honest question, as I haven't been following them.

30 points from 12 games is ridiculous. Leipzig need to make sure they don't get complacent though because people will start hyping them now. Their hunger and drive are incredible and they actually play some great football too so far.

They kind of will be the German Manchester City, that's what seems most likely...but the squad they're doing it with right now definitely still makes it a Leicester story. They spent big money on prospects, yes, but they didn't even really buy the top talents that were much sought after. Their team is very young and with all these new players it's crazy they already have such a great team chemistry.

I see. Thanks for clarifying. :)

Time for us to prepare a proper transfer raid on them come summer.
That Forsberg fella could make for a nice Xabi replacement, Werner, Keita and Sabitzer are also people worth keeping an eye on. Make it happen, Uli

Weinzierl deserves more attention and credit. What a fantastic manager he is. Turned an Ingolstadt squad ready to go down to the 3rd league into a decent Bundesliga team, now he's turning Leipzig into a serious contender. He flies under the radar, but I'll be damned if he isn't the most impressive manager in the Bundesliga in the last 18 months.

I assume you mean Hasenhuttl?

Bundesliga definitely has some interesting managers. Tuchel is the most renowned one, Naglesmann's also gained a bit of superstar status being only 29 years old and turning Hoffenheim around, and Hasenhuttl's up there as well.

they're pretty much doing a leicester city right now, but will have a better chance of staying up around the top level even if they don't win it this season.

Whoops, of course I mean Hasenhüttl. I was rather drunk when I wrote that last night.:nervous:
