I hope Sky work something out so that Sky users will also get it free, if not I can see them losing quite a few customers to Virgin.

Doubt it. For Virgin customers it just replaces ESPN which was free to XL customers.

For what its worth

But who knows.

That just hasn't been updated. The FA Cup will be on BT Sport, not that it matters as the only way to get ESPN is with BT Sport

I was thinking about that, but I have found BT internet expensive, on Sky I get unlimited d'l's and speed of about 6/7 mb and I only pay £10.

That's what I had. BT unlimited is £16 per month, but it's free for 6 months so over an 18 month contract so that's actually £10.66 per month. If you pay the line rental annually it's only £11.75 per month instead of £14.50 on Sky, so it works out cheaper even before you factor in saving £15 a month for BT Sport.

That said, Sky are now running adverts saying they will match the best price - I'm not sure how genuine this is, as when I called them to cancel a month ago (before the adverts) they said they couldn't match BT's prices. I think they've left it too late, basically - unveiling this offer only after the latest day for you to cancel in time to catch the start of the season! Maybe they got caught out by how many people were deserting them for BT...

Sounds like a good deal, I will check it out ,cheers

Ye I have switched mostly because of the 6 months free and paid the line rental upfront - obviously getting BT Sport swings the deal.
I expected Sky to try and convince me to stay with some kind of offer but they didnt bother and just gave the MAC code without much protest - I was quite disapointed!

No never , you always had to pay.
That's astounding. ESPN has been free of charge to those on the top tv package on virgin since launch. I think Sky Sports costs £5 more for the entire bundle but seems to work out cheaper (for premier league games) to have Virgin.

Yeah exactly the same here. Though I'm not disappointed now that my broadband is 4 times faster!

I already pay line rental to BT, but have TalkTalk broadband (yeah, I know they're sh*t etc, but they've been reliable enough for me as I have to work from home sometimes and don't want connection down).

My (probably unfounded) concern with switching to BT is the influx of new 'sports' customers that will lag the service down to a standstill. At least in the first few months. And general BT rubbishness of service that I hear from my other mates (though coming from a TalkTalk customer that's a bit rich).

I'm lucky in that my dad gets us a free 50mb connection here, so we get BT Sport free anyway - easy decision for us to set up a BT Box downstairs. My dad's also told me that rather than connecting to a box on the street and then then to the houses, BT are testing out connections straight to your house as early as the end of this year that can grant up to 300mb speeds.

Really think it's the easiest decision in the world to switch to BT Internet and probably the landline - BT Sport just sweetens the deal as there are some decent Premier League games on there! And any time you don't have to rely on a stream to watch United is a bonus :)

Can any irish tards answer this........

Are Setanta selling BT Sports as well? Obviously UPC are but I heard Setanta are as well?
Im with Sky and I added BT to that via Setanta. Its 20 per month and I get all BT (including HD) and the Setants Stations

The internet is great if you have fibre optic available near you. We dont and the speeds would be the same as what I'm getting from Sky for free.

Once the fibre optic is installed I might look to change my phone, TV and internet all to BT. I can still get all the Sky channels and it seems to be cheaper.

The Claire Balding show has promise, apart from the whole Claire Balding bit

Just got this press release through.

BT SPORT SIGNS 10,000 PUBS AND CLUBS BEFORE PREMIER LEAGUE KICK OFF
With just a day to go before the new Premier League season kicks off, BT Sport has announced that more than 10,000 pubs, clubs, betting shops, hotels and other commercial premises have signed up to its TV packages.
BT Sport is offering top flight sport including live Barclays Premier League and FA Cup football and Aviva Premiership rugby, at prices that massively undercut Sky.
BT Sport’s package has proved to be extremely popular across a range of commercial markets including independent pubs and clubs, as well as pub chains, hotels, betting shops, and other premises.
The launch of the BT Sport Pack has introduced competition into the commercial TV sports market for the first time with a typical independent pub saving up to 76 per cent compared with the cost of Sky*.
BT Sport recently announced its first commercial contract in the gaming sector with the UK’s largest independent bookmaker, Betfred. All three BT Sport channels will be available in all of Betfred’s 1,370 bookmakers across the UK for the next three years.
The first Barclays Premier League game of the season, Liverpool v Stoke City at Anfield is live on BT Sport on Saturday August 17 at 12:45pm. Former Liverpool and Stoke striker Michael Owen will be there in his first Premier League outing as a co-commentator for BT Sport.
Bruce Cuthbert, director of Commercial Customers, BT Sport, said: “Pre-season has gone incredibly well for the BT Sport team. Signing up more than 10,000 commercial customers before a ball is kicked in the Premier League is a fantastic achievement. BT Sport is an affordable and exciting new service for pubs, clubs and their customers. Interest has been phenomenal and underlines the value, quality and broad appeal that we offer. We are particularly delighted that this includes brand new commercial customers for premium sports who have historically been unable to afford Sky’s high prices.”
“Our success in the commercial TV sports market adds to our achievements in the consumer area, where more than a million households are ready to enjoy BT Sport and where we have agreed a deal with Virgin Media to make BT Sport available to its 3.8 million TV customers.”
BT research has shown that nearly half of Britain’s 75,000 pubs and clubs are showing free-to-air sport only – that is almost one and a half times more than those who have Sky. Eighty eight per cent of independent pubs who do not have Sky say they would like to show Premier League football, but Sky is just too expensive**. BT believes its lower prices mean that more pubs are now able to afford premium sports.
BT Sport is available to all commercial premises including offices, golf clubs, sporting clubs, bookmakers and Corca registered clubs with prices starting from as little as £75 per month.
The BT Sport Pack includes BT’s brand new channels BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 2, as well as ESPN, all available in both standard definition and high definition. There will be 38 live and exclusive football matches from the Barclays Premier League – including 18 “first pick” matches - and up to 69 live rugby matches from the Aviva Premiership where BT will be the sole and exclusive broadcaster.
BT Sport is offering more live football games from top leagues than anyone else. There will be hundreds of top flight live matches from football leagues around the world including Italy, Germany, France, Brazil and the USA. Live football from Scottish Premier League plus 10 Rangers matches, FA Cup ties and the Final and live coverage from the UEFA Europa League will also be shown.
The channels will also feature WTA women’s tennis, action from the UFC, Moto GP, Women’s Super League football, England Under-21 games, Australian ‘A’ league soccer and action from Red Bull Extreme Sports.
BT Sport is delivered via satellite technology, so that any business with Sky equipment just has to call BT to add BT Sport to their line-up. BT will also facilitate a third party standard installation for customers who do not already have Sky equipment on their premises, at no extra charge. There is no need for commercial premises to take BT broadband or BT Vision as the channels are delivered via satellite.
BT has set up a dedicated UK based call centre to help commercial customers with all of their BT Sport queries. Customers can find out more by calling 0800 678 1957 or visiting: www.btsportbusiness.com.

BT Sport has become an official partner of Manchester City and will team up with the club's TV team on match days from the renamed BT City Square – a new fanzone situated outside the north end of the Etihad Stadium.
The partnership will bring fans of the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League champions - who are about to embark on the new season under new boss Manuel Pellegrini - even closer to the action with weekly interviews from key members of the playing staff.
Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “We’re thrilled to be an official partner of Manchester City. At BT Sport, we look to reflect the passion of sports fans and to create unique, engaging content and this partnership helps to give us the inside track.”
Tom Glick, chief commercial and operating officer for Manchester City, added: “We are delighted to work together with BT Sport and look forward to close collaboration to drive innovative content that can be shared across each of our media platforms.
“As part of the partnership, our purpose built outdoor fan entertainment area, BT City Square, will also be enhanced, making it an even better venue for fans and families to gather before and after each home game.”
BT Sport will show 38 exclusively live football matches from the Barclays Premier League, including 18 of the ‘top picks’, for each of the next three seasons.
Manchester City's home games against Hull City and Everton are scheduled to be screened by BT Sport before the end of October, with more games to come later in the season.
The channels will also show live FA Cup with Budweiser matches for the next five seasons.

How is that even possible? I thought these kind of partnerships weren't allowed?

I know they can team up and create a channel and broadcast on behalf of the club, in the club's name but this seems utterly ridiculous.

If you have a kind friend who gives you their login details you can get access to BT Sport on your laptop or tablets for free. Apparently there's no restrictions on how many you can use it on.

At the moment. The same was true of Sky Go at the start.

That's just stupidly insane. Talk about opening a can of worms. I don't know anything about BT's deal with PL, but how much power do they have over when matches are being played? Do they get to pick any live matches? Could easily lead to conspiracy theories if City is moved to a better date or a rival to a worse. I don't even know how it's allowed by regulations for such a major broadcaster to work that closely with one team.

I'm not saying that there's no way BT won't handle it well, but no matter what they do it WILL become an issue and some fans WILL raise questions whenever something happens that could in any slight way be related to this deal.

Quite a strange deal and as Wowi says it could potentially cause a lot of shit.

It's just going to be backroom shit isn't it?

And my god, we're ones to talk with BSkyB trying to buy us

Yeah but that got blocked.

Well one good thing came out of this. It sounds like we can be certain that BT Sport WILL show FA Cup matches this season (4 season deal + 1)

Anyway, what was Sky's ownership percentage of MUTV? 50%? I really cant get worked up about this. It's just because they dont have an MCTV, instead they are giving BT access. It's just the equivalent of MUTV but on BT. Really cant be bothered.

I think that's the point. We might have had some form of partnership with sky in regards to broadcasting stuff purely about Manchester United but it never spammed Sky Sports own channels.
