@GifLord - how long do you think it will take before 4k streams hit Kodi? A lot of the Android boxes are supossed to be able to play 4k or is there more to it?
I don't think the software is the issue re Kodi and 4K, it'll be the hardware that is the main stumbling block. They are only just releasing 4K Blu Rays now, and there is no guarantee that they will be the permanent solution either.

If anyone considering a purchase of a 4K, I would seriously recommend holding off for at least another couple of years and seeing where the market is. Personally, I'm going to hold fire until the yields for OLED TVs improve and the price becomes reasonable for them...

Probably a couple of years
There's not many 4k cable/sat receivers out yet + most of UHD channels currently available via Sat are demos

Cheers mate

Cheers. I have read on another site that OLED is the way to go and that in 18 months 8k tv's will be out. Could this be another 3D?

Nah, 3D was a gimmick, 4K is still an amazing picture even if 8K does come along. Not to mention that I don't think 8K will really make much (any) difference unless you're comparing the largest size screens.

4K over HD on a 32" screen probably wouldn't look much different, which is why I think the smallest 4K units are 48" (unless that's changed recently?).

You'd probably need at least 65" screens to get the benefit of an 8K resolution.

4K or 'UHD' is based on LED, so it has the same drawbacks in terms of blacks and contrast. OLED is basically the ultimate: the blacks of the Plasma and the brightness of LED. The problem til now, has been its yield rates and the associated costs of production. LG have seemingly been the only company to get a decent system and mode of production down for it, with the others retreating to 4K unfortunately. There are also other potential new techs which could even overtake OLED, but the differences are at best, negligible.

While it may not be a 3D, it isn't the be all and end all of picture quality potential in terms of tech. The technology I would most liken it to is LED, in that while it may not be the most technically advanced, but because of it's cheapness of assembly and production, it'll be the most in demand and marketed which means it'll sell by the bucketload.

So Sky have confirmed they won the la liga rights for another three seasons.

Oh god another 3 years of Gerry Armstrong drooling over Messi, I guess it could've of been worse if BT had got it with their commentators and studio 'experts'

On a side note who do you reckon would be their Spanish football experts in the studio would be? Seen as we have David James, Steve McManaman & Owen Hargreaves for the EPL games.

Actually prefer BT's coverage of Serie A and other european leagues over Sky's La Liga coverage. Sky have been wheeling out the same tired pundits for years, and the commentary is nauseating at times.

Agreed, James Richardson, Honigstein, Auclair etc. are pretty decent IMO.

Always like watching the european football show.

The commentary on Sky's La Liga games is just shockingly bad. I now watch them with Spanish commentary and even though I don't understand a single word I find it way less boring than Sky!

Couldn't agree more with all this about La Liga on Sky. When I saw the news today I was gutted.
Don't know if it's down to their presenters and analysts or just the way the show is made but apart from the Classico games I just find it depressingly stale to watch.

And Gulliem Ballague , what an uptight self important cnut. He thinks he's the god of Spanish football.

European football show is a great watch, always enjoying watching that on Sunday nights, get to see goals from other leagues and hear some reliable transfer gossip. I was hoping BT would get La Liga rights, don't know how I feel with Sky retaining them, they'll probably use it as a excuse to hike up the prices again. I skip all of the pre-match build of their coverage anyway, Bullshit ballbag, Toshack & that expat bald bloke on their.. crap. I just tune in when the games kick off.

Could someone clarify exactly how the Champions League matches are broadcasted? BT Sports has all the rights to the European games, so does this mean that not a single game from the Champions League will be shown on ITV1? Or will it just be like before except Sky is now replaced with BT Sports; and ITV1 and BT Sports both broadcast the Champions League games, with BT Sports showing most of the games?

Every game is on BT

Not a single game on ITV or Sky.

All matches will be on BT Sport which will be FTA on tuesdays/wednsdays?

Champions league is all BT sports now, so no more games on Sky and ITV.

BT have said they will show a dozen or so lives games on one of their free channels though.

Aren't all Champions League games on Tuesday/Wednesday anyway
what i ment to say was that one day(tuesday/wedsnday which day was the ucl on ITV?) BT SPORT channel is gonna be free to air which means anyone can watch it for free

A number of games will be shown free-to-air on a new digital channel including the finals of both European competitions.

We were really reluctant to pay £9 a month for HD bt sport considering the last time we had it it was completely free, but then remembered it has champions league games on now. Probably worth it.

They won't all be FTA at all, what would be the point in that? A few might, including the two finals.

1 per week i think

edit:

There will still be some European football available free to air, with BT Sport promising to show at least 12 Champions League and 14 Europa League games on its new freeview channel BT Sport Showcase.Every British club will be featured free at least once.

12 champions league games across the whole campaign? Fair amount but not that much at all.

Still miles behind Sky Sports in terms of punditry and commentary. Owen and Hoddle were woeful today. Michael Owen mumbling about Alderweireld transferring his form at Tottenham last season to Spurs this season was odd. I think he realised he'd said Tottenham twice, but just seemed to stutter through it. He articulates himself really poorly.

Hoddle speaks a little better, but probably shouldn't do Spurs games at least.

I'd like someone from BT to explain why we need to see Howard Webb looking at some monitors when giving his opinion, which takes up 1/3 of the screen. Is his voice not enough for us to understand what he's saying?

They did the same with Mark Halsey and dropped it. There really is no need for it.

Hoddle was ok. But Owen is dire.

Analysis just for the sake of it, nobody cares about Howard Webb's views mid-game.

Nobody cares for Owen's views ever.

Owen clearly knew nothing about Darmian and was making stuff up on the spot at times about him. Very poor.

I do quite like Rio afterwards though and he seems to give interesting insights into life as a player. Harry Redknapp looked like he was having a seizure for a lot of the aftershow.

Just in general that BT box needs to go, other channels realised back in the 80's why trying with cricket that nobody wants it, just cluttering up the picture.

 That cracked me up. He could have at least corrected himself. Their coverage really is 2nd rate, they're the Aldi of the sports broadcasting world.

Didn't they remove it after the first time? (I was a little busy duing the second half and didn't see all of it) That box was indeed annoying, I don't really need to see the guy's face, just introduce him and get on with it.

Owen's voice isn't fit for that job, it's way too nasal and hard on the ear, and he should've practice saying "Aldivereldie" a couple of times before the match.

The second time then went to him it was just audio, but they do use it for other stuff that's completely unnecessary.

Howard Webb in the corner cluttering up the screen, telling us how the ref is performing, why seriously.

Why the feck would anyone care how the ref is doing let alone want another ref interrupting the match to prattle on about it.

Jesus BT is so bad it's unreal, they are funneling all the money into buying the rights and paying peanuts for monkeys on the talent side.

fecking Michael Owen, who ever thought he had a voice for commentary is a moron.

Their European channel is silly as well. Like if it's sky sports news showing us all the scores. Wish they'd take that off.

He's going to be paid to say "Yeah, the ref is doing alright." for the entire season.

The Howard Webb stuff is so stupid. Sky did this as well when they had him on for MNF and went on like it was a big scoop to get him, and that he'd get grilled on all the mistakes that refs make. It doesn't work like that, refs look after their own and he'll never admit to a mistake because it makes his people look bad. So what's the point in even having him? To quote from the rulebook? It drives me crazy.

BT's coverage is so amateur it's almost unbelievable. Having Webb is bad enough, but do we really need picture in picture for it? They also have the score and BT logo at the bottom of the screen, which is idiotic because it covers the pitch. If you have it at the top of the screen it covers the crowd most of the time. Are they doing this just to be different? And they're continuing the process of hiring ex-players because of their name and not because they're articulate or offer any valuable insight. Owen is atrocious. Hoddle was marginally better but gradually got worse as his frustration grew at Spurs not getting back in the game. I'm now paying almost as much to have BT as I would have paid with Sky, so the end result here is football coverage just got worse for absolutely no benefit. I'll never understand the criticism Sky got. Sure they over hype stuff, but at least their 20 years of covering the sport shows in the overall quality of the production.

Owen shouldn't be a commentator, he's so boring and his voice gives you a headache

Basically yeah because we know he will never say anything controversial or criticize another ref. Totally pointless feature.
