Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

It was one game. So many people ready to right off him And Felix on a poor performance. They are both very good , hope we sign both its unlikely but I think they are both worth the gamble ( even after tonight's performances)

I have huge reservations for attacking players from Portugese league and this is just an inner feeling.

I admit, this is just based on one match and some highlights from YouTube.

Played a couple of nice passes in the first half and got stuck in, the shape Portugal played didn't really suit him and he's lightweight on the ball, he doesn't protect it like Bernardo Silva.

Not a central midfielder but a no 10. The Portuguese's coach really messed up. Bernardo should be in the central midfield with Bruno upfront. Midfield have always been Portugal weakness but now that they have got a quality one, they are wasting the talent they have in Bernardo upfront, just like the coach deployed him on the wing at the world cup. Moutinho and Bernardo in front of one of Neves/Carvalho in the midfield would not only be mobile but much more incisive.

The defence is another problem.

I recall @SportingCP96 saying he was knackered in the cup final due to a ridiculous number of minutes played for Sporting this season.

Yet many are content to judge him based on one Nations League match at the end of a long season.

Logic.
He played bad but as you said it is unfair to Judge him on that game. He was played out of position the midfield was in shambles and he never looked comfortable out wide.

Portugal should play a front 3 of Ronaldo on the left Felix central and Silva on the right all 3 interchangeable. The midfield should be William and Neves with Bruno in front of them in the 10 role.

I am not even a coach and even I know that is a much better setup then a 442 with Neves and William anchoring Felix and Ronaldo side by side and Silva and Bruno outwide.

Yeah that sounds terrible. Archaic tactics and destined to fail really.

Only formation Bruno makes sense on the right in is a 4231 I would think.

But what do I know.

Football is simple. You have a guy who just scored 34 goals playing down the middle....play him down.the.middle.

I can’t even understand the coaches logic. “Oh wow you scored 34 goals this season playing as a 10? Alright next game your playing as a right mid.

The only way santos would be gone is if we lose 5-0 against England or Holland, I don’t like the guy as a coach and Portugal always play badly and if we win was because Ronaldo or the other team is called France.

I was annoying when I saw Bernardo open a few times and they forced the passes to Ronaldo. Also that Felix kid is another sanches I hope I’m wrong but thats my gut feeling.

I think Felix has talent but he is really over hyped. Not worth more then 45M at the moment. Sancho is worth 100M and he had a much better season in a much better league. Felix needs to stay in Portugal.

While Bernardo has been killing it on the right for City. Bizarre.

I don't think you can find a formation that suits all those players. @SportingCP96 I doubt a midfield of Neves and Carvalho will work behind Bruno as AMC and Felix-Ronnie-Silva. Either there is zero width and they all clog up each others' space or players are moved out of position.

Surely you have to choose which one to start, Felix or Bruno. It's like the Lampard Gerrard midfield, which was mostly shite.

I think the formation I said works though. Ronaldo is the “LW” but in reality he will end up going to the striker position. Felix will play down the middle as he does in Benfica though he will constantly interchange with Ronaldo whole Silva plays the same role he did at City.

William as the DM “destroyer” and Neves as the deep lying playmaker with Bruno we the “10” ahead of them looks like a dynamic attacking team.

Yeah, I think that means Felix and Ronnie are in each others' space, left side is empty and midfield therefore needs to spread out more to cover that. I think you would benefit from having one actual winger in there. We'll see Sunday if he persists with this square pegs round holes formation/selection.

Oh I agree if it was up to me I would have Gelson or Bruma outwide. Felix time will come but it is not right now. He is not starter quality yet.

It's just a shame managers feel under this pressure to fit everyone in to the detriment of the team. My hunch is he won't do it on Sunday, too much riding on that game.

In the final it should be:

William

Bruno-Moutinho

Bernardo-Félix-Ronaldo
Guedes was good as a sub so no need to change plan there. Sub him on for Felix in the 70th minute against tired legs. 4-3-3 here but the front 3 have a lot of mobility and it changes to a 4-4-2 defensively. Moutinho closes the attacking fulback on one side and Bruno on the other. Neves and William shouldn't play together, they're both too similar and they're too slow to cover defensively.

Where is Diego Jota in the pecking order, Surely he is better player than Guedes?

The federation has other “interests” which is why they are trying to force Felix in the team. Sporting has dominated the national team for years and over 80% of the team who won the Euro was from Sporting academy so now that Sporting has fallen off in that department they are trying to shove every Benfica player that comes through into the starting team. They want to be the “face” of the national team. Granted the truth is they have better talents right now. But even if they were bad players like 2 years ago Ivan Cavaleiro played a few games for Benfica and immediately got called up and given games for Portugal, he was so god awful though that they had to stop.

God I hate benfica.

All the players that got called up deserved it. It definitely used to happen but it's not true the federation is corrupt to that extent nowadays.

Like I said I agree on the current players because they are simply more talented. I was more so talking about the federation as a whole has done that.

Is Bruno a player comfortable that deep with players who drop into the #10 position like Felix in front of him? I think it's better to choose one of the two. And with Ronnie as a left sided forward, you need maybe a better foil for him up front or Silva as a false nine (who can cover the left when Ronnie goes on his wander) and a right winger. It just looks too unbalanced, something we are all unfortunately accustomed to after years of watching a terribly unbalanced United side being horribly predictable and limited.

:D made me laugh, that last line. International success doesn't trump club rivalries?

Just to be on topic: I still very much want Bruno and his goals.

He's a striker though. He'd be competing for chances with Ronaldo and look how that panned out for benzema. You may as well play just him as the main goal threat and a bunch of attacking midfielders to feed him.

It does not. Not when it's about those cnuts.

I hate them the same or more then you hate Liverpool.:lol:

I believe some papers are saying this deal is done... I can't remember if I've seen this bloke play or not!

He didn't play well last night but his record/stats show he is a top goalscoring midfielder, and what we need.

When was that ? 14 years back and it took so much of patience from our side to develop him

Do we have the time now for Bruno? He is already 24 and we are looking for an instant fix when we pay 70m for a 24 year old.

They played similar like Wolves with 2 upfront in Ronaldo and Felix, I thought he will be the guy substituted in for Felix but Guedes came in and played that position until they scored the second goal and than moved wide for last few minutes.

I know what you mean. That Ronaldo lad and that Nani chap were pants.

So because he is 24 he is too old? He played in Serie A also and produced good figures. Some of the best players in the world in figo, zidane and rivaldo did not flourish until mid twenties at bigger clubs.

28 goals and 16 assists in 41 games. I wonder how Lingard or Mata would do in the Portuguese league.

Even if he has half those stats in the premier league he would still have more than any of our players bar Pogba. Plus we would finally have a decent free kick taker.

Fred for about 10m euros less did what exactly?

I've never seen him, saw a few minutes of a youtube clip so clearly can't make any judgement on him. Would I be right in thinking he lacks pace and he'd be similar to David Silva in that department?

United have done well signing from Sporting for the Mose part.

Almost every Benfica player sold ended up being a flop bar Ederson and David Luiz. Not counting Bernardo Silva because he did not play any first team games basically.

In a weaker league, Depay's stats were also terrific. Especially for a young footballer.
