Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

The tweets today are obviously a City brief.

Castles said on his podcast 4 days ago that City were not in for the player and that all of the reports suggesting they were had come from people at Sporting, who want to make a market for the player.

Yes, I know that. But far better connected journalists than Castles for City have said the opposite, including Lee in his backtracking tweet today. The majority of the news may have come from Sporting's side, but that doesn't preclude there also being interest from City.

Who said that was the reason?
People who didn’t want him until it looked like city wanted him, who then wanted him desperately, who now don’t want him because city aren’t getting/don’t want him? Or some of the people who think we shouldn’t be after city targets because Fred/Sanchez, who also moan every time city sign someone. Some complicated people on here.

Not sure where people are getting that he isn't a good player on the ball. I would list that as maybe his biggest strength.

This is how the Cafe works.

A. Its always the managers fault even if he has just walked in the door.

B. Any player linked to a top club, especially City/Chelsea is ace until he joins us then he us automatically bobbins.

Fixed it for you.

We should definitely sign him. The fact that we have been scouting him for over 6 months means the club also feels the same. We need some creativity and goals from midfield apart from Pogba.

I believe we are building towards a 4-4-2. It suits the players we have and we played good football when we tired they formation. It would explain the links with all these CAMs / #10s - Felix, Bruno, Dybala. It would suit the likes of Greenwood too from what I've seen of him

Bruno has 9 Man Of The Match awards from 39 games (31 in the League and 8 in Europa), that means in 25% games he played, he was the best player on the pitch. We need game changers and this guy has 27 goals and 14 assists this season according to whoscored. If he can get us half those numbers, he’ll be massive for us

That would be 13.5 goals and 7 assists. Pogba has better stats in a harder league but people want him gone..

I dont know the player very well but because of his stats he looks like his attacking contribution would be a lot more usefull than Mata/Lingard/any other midfielder bar Pogba.

Never believe anything until he is holding the shirt. Problem with City fans, not the lads on here they seem quite level headed, is they believe all their bullsh1t ITK (sorry KFA) sad acts and then get disappointed when it doesn't happen.

City were never in for him supposedly, so it doesn't indicate that some other team has gazumped them last minute. Although it would seem he isn't going to City, so they can go back to calling him shit now when he joins Utd (or A.N. other)

I would absolutely love a 24 year old Frank Lampard joining United this summer. Fantastic player.
There are many players more like Lampard than somebody else but nowhere near as good as Lampard. The point is to focus on what you need and not necessarily the most flashy option. Long range goals is great but we need playmakers.

He has 14 assists. He is not just a goal scorer. With Pogba and Herrera probably leaving, we'll sign a couple more midfielders too.

City are good at a lot of things, but their achilles is getting high profile signings over the line once they have made a commitment to sign a player and have engaged with the media on it. They’ve dodged a few bullets seemingly in recent years, but it isn’t by design.

To be fair we dont have anyone really effective from outside the box.We all thought Pogba would offer us that aspect to our game but it hasn't came to fruition, though granted you could argue he's got too mutch of a offensive burden already.
Having a player capable of creating or scoring from shots outside the area is a usefull element to our game which would be gladly welcomed.

As long as we're using him as well as Pogba then I have no problem with this. Otherwise, replacing Pogba with Fernandes is a significant downgrade.

Seems they genuinely just missed out on Fred and Sanchez. In this case though, it looks like it was just Sporting trying to drum up interest.

Not saying Pogba doesnt have good numbers, but his penalties needs mentioning.. 7 goals on penalty. Bruno Fernandes with 5 on penalty

It's not really a high profile signing though. Barely anyone had heard of him a couple of months ago.

I don’t know where this is coming from. No one wants him gone but if he doesn’t want to be here, he can feck right off. That holds true for any other player in our squad, we shouldn’t keep anyone against their will, sell them and replace them with players who want to play for United and have the drive and desire to do so.

Also for the talent Pogba has, his mentality is quite shite. The best I’ve seen him play was right after Mou was sacked, when he was everywhere- attacking, defending, marking. But since then he has gone back to his inconsistent old self. I would love for him to stay and improve but again if he wants to leave, I wouldn’t shed a tear

 you've clearly not been in a few certain threads.

As Klopp's Liverpool have shown, a world class midfield is not essential. We need world class wingers, striker and above average FBs to score goals. Then a somewhat average midfield would do. We rely too much on Pogba now only because our FBs and forwards suck.

If Pogba and Herrera both leave, signing Bruno Fernandes, Youri Tielemans and Adrien Rabiot for 100m in total will be a great piece of business.

Duncan Castles on his podcast earlier this week. He also said he'd be amazed if the player ended up at City.
Not concerned what that bald cnut says.

Massive upgrade to midfield if he comes in.

What is he going to cost? 30-40 million? That's alright.
More like £60-£70m.

He's a good player, learned his trade in Italy so can read the game tactically very well. Absolutely bossed the midfield for Sporting this season and has been their standout player in many games. He won't take the PL immediately but he will definitely be a success here. Probably something akin to Fabinho?

When was the last time an attacker from Portugese league made an instant impact in epl? If you guys are expecting Pogba numbers from him, then you are going to be surprised. It will take atleast an year for him to settle down.

So cool down and set the bar down else you will be disappointed again.

No one's expecting 20 goals a season, we need players that move the ball around quicker and can read the game better, he falls into that category. If we can create better openings than we currently do we could see the likes of Rashford get 20 goals next season. That's the aim with signings like this.

I think the main issue isn't Pogba, or anyone else's ability from outside the box, rather that we don't move the ball fast enough to give us opportunities to shoot before we're closed down. In fact, all over the pitch it feels like we simply play slower passes than most teams, there's no zip whatsoever. Not that I want to see Lukaku trying to control a pass with a bit of weight to it.

The worst thing is that City being in for a player and then pulling out makes me think the player will be absolute shit for us. It's what Sanchez has done to me.

Shitty seem to put a price on a target and then refuse to deviate from it. That's a fair and competent way to work especially when they already have a great side + capable scouts who can find alternatives. However let's not think that they are infallible. One day they'll get their version of Hazard or Batistuta ie top players they won't get because they refused to pay that little extra for them

What bar? the bar is so low right now that a stick on the ground will do
