Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

Big If. Ole said he wants to stay so I tend to believe him.

If he wants to go you sell him for big bucks. Talking 160+ easy. Then you get in two creatively good midfielders to replace him. So with Herrera leaving we would have to bring in 3 midfielders total if Pogba is going.
We are on the same page then. If Pogba wants to stay, then of course he has a place here. But everything points to him forcing a move.

Sporting have reportedly decided to sell and have been throwing City's name around to make a market for the player.

They may now try to do more of the same again and throw our name in the mix.

File under 'Gaitan'.

City journalists reported that deal is almost done. It's far from "Gaitan". More like Fred/Sanchez/Jorginho where player moved elsewhere.

He also said that Fernandes is not good enough to play at an elite level club.
I mean cool, but his opinion on football means pretty much jack shit. He's just a journo, which is fine, but not exactly a leading authority on football.

The people I've heard from say he's not technically good enough.
For the love of God,we need ball players.

Duncan Castles said on his podcast on Monday that all the info re City interest in the player was coming from Sporting, and that it was likely just the club trying to make a market for a player they have decided to sell.

He also said that Fernandes is not good enough to play at an elite level club.

The problem with that angle is two fold. Firstly, City have briefed that they're not interested in players when they've lost out on them before. Secondly, clubs are linked to players they're not interested in all time and rarely bother to deny they're interested.

Taking a City brief as gospel is slightly foolish.

Apart from Ole saying he reckons he will be here next season and that Paul is our leader in the dressing room.

That said I'm leaning towards him wanting to go as he is just a but too good for Europa League football. Hopefully he stays as I doubt we would reinvest the money anyway so I don't think it would lead to more or better signings.

Exactly. All the news about the deal is very close to done was 4 days ago. Reliable journalists for City also reported the story.

Today all of a sudden all the journalists reported the story at the same time. Something happened, it's not just black or white.

Big time. If there's one requirement I'd like our signings to have this summer is that they're all quality on the ball.

The tweets today are obviously a City brief.

Castles said on his podcast 4 days ago that City were not in for the player and that all of the reports suggesting they were had come from people at Sporting, who want to make a market for the player.

But you mentioned earlier Ole said Pogb wants to stay.. I don't think he said this?

Ole not wanting to say publically that he would sell is not the same as Pogba wanting to stay. If he wants to go, which is what it seems, he should go.

Pogba and Bruno Fernandes together isnt a balanced midfield, just wouldn't work. Would be like playing De Bruyne and David Silva, just both are far less possession oriented, not as hard working and you don't have Guardiola as your manager to make it possible.
Then don't buy Bruno and keep Pogba. Unless he's happy as a squad player, or we want to play him at the tip of a diamond.

They presumably all believed what Sporting were telling them.

Not the first time a Portuguese club has used an English club's name to make a market for one of their players. See Gaitan.

Shitty plan. Sell our only creative player to buy one creative player.

Or here's a thought have two creative players......

He'll be in the penultimate year of his contract. If he doesn't commit soon we need to sell him or else we'll get penny's for him next season.

He's guaranteed to be shit now and I'm not certain he's the type of player we can afford to gamble with, but had City signed him he would have been amazing. That's how it works now.

I know you are describing caf sentiment swings, but that holds true in real life.

City sign players they know what to do with and so they turn amazing. We don't have the faintest idea how or if we will use someone or whether we needed them in the first place.

Same player, different outcomes.

Not every rumor is Gaitan, If anything Portuguese paper reported deal is far from over and it was City's journalists and Fabricio Romano who reported deal is very close to done.

He did maybe two or three weeks ago no?

From the clips I've seen, he looks more Lampard than Silva. We need more Silva.

Has Fred written on it. Woodward had better be careful going for City's target. We want a playmaker in the midfield and not a poor man's Pogba/Gylfi.

Because that's what they and everyone else had been told. By Sporting.

If City was never in because of lack of technical qualities then there's no reason for us to be. perhaps he's just a fancier Shelvey

I only want "I can't believe we're not in for him" players, so for those reasons, I'm out

Who would even be in this category....?

I would hope we go for the upcoming but fairly proven players like Neves, Wan Bisaka, etc, but I wouldn't go as far as to say I can't believe we are not in for him.

Sancho maybe, but his price would be so high that I could understand why we wouldn't.

I would never say I can't believe we are not in for Neymar, Mbappe type players because they are top tier prices and we won't go there.

So who exactly would fall into this mystical can't believe we are not in for them category?

I guess most naturally it would have to be known bargains, which will predominately be contract related, e.g. Manolas, Alderweireld, Rabiot.

Manolas might not be enough of an improvement, Alderweireld questions over age and injuries. Rabiot attitude issues means I would also rule these out in the can't believe category.

So in summary unless there is someone I'm missing, your comment sounds a bit like a SAF, there is no value in the market.

Who said that was the reason?

The worst thing is that City being in for a player and then pulling out makes me think the player will be absolute shit for us. It's what Sanchez has done to me.
Come on, there’s no logic behind that. Who cares what City is doing. We shouldn’t let the actions and especially rumours surrounding a player in regards to other clubs affect our opinions. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play, but from what I’ve read from people on here following the Portuguese league I’m very excited about the possibility of signing him.

To be fair, City never actually being interested doesn't necessarily mean the player wouldn't be a success here. Solskjaer and Guardiola have very different approaches.

If I recall from our resident Portuguese fans, Bruno does work hard and has a fitting mentality but operates further up the pitch so he needs to be balanced, much like Pogba does. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't seen the player beyond highlights.

My dream scenario would be selling Pogba to bring in Bruno, Neves and Ndombele, with Rabiot signed on a free. Neves would be the biggest cost but at 21 he'd easily be worth the large outlay.

Duncan Castles on his podcast earlier this week. He also said he'd be amazed if the player ended up at City.

Ah he tends to know feck all though. He chats a lot of garbage from a journalism standpoint let alone a technical footballing one.
