Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

Bull. We can afford to buy most top names in elite football in the same transfer window. The Glazers and Woodward prefer getting bonuses and mansions instead of a couple of 'soccer signings'.

TBF these two points don't contradict each other. We could afford to sign anyone we wanted but it's very possible the team involved with transfers have been told no more than 100m net spend by the Glazers.

He had a great game against our rivals last night ( early morning) scoring 1 and assisting the other in a 2-2 draw. Klopp even commented on his display.
Sounds good. I honestly haven't seen much of him at all but from what others are saying he sounds like he could be a quality player for us. But again, if we honestly don't see a place for him in the team then fair enough. Just gotta deal with it and hope we actually sign more players!

Perfect play to describe him as a player and his hardwork. Even carrying the defence :D

It was interesting that the BBC article claimed he played from the left. I thought he typically played in the center?

He started on the left and then moved to central position and also played few mins on the right.

It is becoming glaringly obvious that our two targets were Maguire and Longstaff. we thought we could get Longstaff on the cheap, Newcastle called out bluff, Leicester keep upping the Maguire price and it will take £90m for them to sell now.

Fernandes was most likely dependent on Lukaku money. It's no coincidence to me that this is being briefed after it has become apparent that Inter won't be coughing up more than £55m.

It's been another unforgivable window.

Very much doubt that we can't afford Bruno without a Lukaku sale.

Misplaced pas after misplaced pass. Liverpool didn't look like they were playing a much press from that clip so I'm not sure how representative it would be of a PL game.

The itself goal was more down to Mingolet than Fernandes.

I'm still waiting to see something that makes me think he's a top PL player waiting to make his mark on the league. The assist was nice, but that's about it.

We need an upgrade on Lingard and Mata as we will not score enough goals with our front players. And we won't sign him, what a terrible rebuild.

Why do people think it is a briefing when no one at the BBC is reporting it?

He is going ti Liverpool and we are not signing anyone else than Maguire. I guess that gives us a solid defence.

What I dont understand is that why does not Ed see this as the best opportunity to get back to a permanent CL-team. Arsenal and Chelsea are not going to be as weak as they are now. Its time to invest in the team and get top 4. By doing this Arsenal and Chelsea will have problems getting great players without CL.

This player would come here and hit the ground running. Lovely player.

I was being an optimist at the beginning of summer, I’m not anymore. I love this club but lately I have started to feel hate towards our management (Ed). That cnut drumming his chest about how rich we are, thats the dumbest thing you can do. Idiot.

Sorry for the off topic stuff, I’m just frustrated.

Few quotes about Bruno after the game

FFS woody what are you waiting for.

Klopp: He's not good enough for Liverpool.
Porto Chairman: Yeah, but there are other clubs who are interested so he must be good enough. Honest!
Klopp: Well, if United buy him like the papers are saying, it'll be because they do think he's good enough.

That's not an endorsement, it's a polite answer to a journalist's question.

Klopp said about him and United:- He is a very good player and they already have some very good players so it would not be good for us if he went to them.

Well, if the Liverpool manager thinks that he'd be a good move for United, we have to listen to him!

We are desperate for midfielders and the only links seem to be Fernandes and Longstaff.

If we aren't in for Fernandes it is a bit concerning regarding goals from Midfield.

I'd sign them both as we need quality and depth in midfield more than any other area.

Did you watch the clip? What impressed you?

The clip where he tracks back to snuff out the attempt shot. Something we definitely can use.
Of course I'm relying on the club to make the decision based on more than just that clip, so if we get him, i'm happy! If not, well, i'm not the pessimist most are, but in hindsight I can be!

But we must sell before we buy. I'm convinced that this is the hold up on transfers. This is why we haven't upped the offer for Maguire and anybody else we are interested in. Lukaku fee will pay for Maguire, otherwise we have to sell others.

We’re a complete laughing stock of a club. Have been for years and this is just the latest development & you bet your ass it won’t be the the last one either.

The fact we’ve let this drag out to this extent is mind boggling. Even if it gets done which I’m skeptical of, it won’t be all that satisfying knowing it took so long and after all this drama. Would be nice for once if we could get our business done in a timely fashion and without a ruckus ffs :wenger:

Impressive.

A player who is prepared to expend that much energy into a meaningless friendly is just the type of player we need at this club.

Oh behave

I absolutely love everything about the teams pre-season tour, but I'll admit I will be incredibly bummed if we don't land Fernandes. He's only 24 and is a player that is so incredibly involved in the offensive game, something we just desperately need after Herrera left.

That being said I'm sure there are better options to be had, but Fernandes is ready now and would be a great signing. I'm not sold on the valuation of Sporting though, plus I much rather want the club to sign Maguire first and focus on this later.

What we can afford and what the board are willing to give us are two very different things. we could afford to do what madrid have done this summer, and for sure we were in more dire need of doing so.

£200m each summer isnt beyond our means, even under FFP. the board will be looking to go for the Tottenham approach of spending as little as possible, I'll bet it really frustrates them that they are comfortably finishing top 4 and spending peanuts each season.

Mourinho must have fought hard to get the funds he did, as soon as it hit the rocks he was gone. ole is perfect for pushing the 'spend minimum, keep the fans onside, promote youth' mantra. The end result is record dividend paid to our shareholders, the greed knows no bounds.

Edit: consider this a meltdown

If ever there was proof that the media will keep trying to fan the flames of any rumours just to get eyeballs on their website then read this piece from Sky Sports Transfer Centre

"ARE UNITED CALLING SPORTING'S BLUFF?

The news this morning is that Manchester United have seemingly gone a bit cold on signing Bruno Fernandes; but is there more behind the story?

"Is it a bluff?" asked Sky Sports reporter Anton toloui on Good Morning Transfers.

"We know United want a central midfielder. Is it a negotiating tactic? If United walk away from the table and Sporting want to cash in now the only way for Sporting to get United back to the table is to accept less money and then the negotiations start again.

"It’s quite a common tactic in transfer negations, to say ‘we don’t really want this player’ and then to go back in for him later. I am not saying United are definitely doing this but it’s more common than you probably think, and he is an excellent player who could really help Manchester United.""

Well said, we can afford any player if the Glazers release the funds, but they wont. Ole's promises look like they are not going to happen, and the rebuild will come from the academy. This could be a big mistake as we need experience mixed with youth for the premiership and europe. Fans will soon let their feelings heard and seen if the REBUILD don't start this season. We still need a CB and 2 midfielders. even if Pogba stays.

Oh noes! The muppets aren't happy!

He's a tailor made upgrade to Herrera. If we are at all serious about getting top four then he will be a crucial player. Effective in both halves of the pitch and works his socks off.

Completely agree. Even Sir Alex wasn't a fan of throwing youngsters in without experienced heads next to them. The class of 92 was the closest but still had Irwin, Pallister, Cantona, Schmeichel etc.

Linderof and Dalot were the last 2 players United signed from Portugal and they both came out of the blue. Dalot with no prior speculation. I conclude the more the press\blogs report and speculate on a transfer from Portugal the less likely it is.

Out of the blue?! It was rumoured and spoken about for absolutely ages! Dalot I’ll give you.

We should be in for him, I don't care if we have too many midfielders, we should be releasing Mata or Pereira or whoever to make room for a quality player. I'm all for giving youth a chance but I don't see Mata or Pereira as youth, just ok squad players.
