Clutching at straws here but I hope we're playing hard ball with Sporting knowing there's no interest elsewhere and will swoop in at the last minute with a bid.

Midfield is arguably the most important position we need to take care of. Now you might disagree with bringing in Fernandes because of his profile, which is fine, but we don't seem to be after any other players that would fit the profile anyway, so we're taking care of pretty much feck all.
There are far more eloquent and articulate posts on this never ending topic but when I read your post I had to laugh as it perfectly sums up how most of us are feeling.
Regarding Fernandes though, we've only every had the media feeding this story. There has been no official sign from his club or ours that an offer was on the table

Having Pogba and Bruno needing free roles to hurt the opposition would never have worked. Pogba seems to need a specific way to play to fully utilise his talents and bringing in a player that doesn't suit us wouldn't work.
Well in midfield a replacement for Matic is the most important concern I think. How this team could do with a peak Michael Carrick now.

Focus should be 100% on getting the new players that we desperately need, but instead, we are giving attention to something that could be completed after the transfer window has closed.

At this point any links to any players playing in Portugal should be dismissed straight away. the constant links every single year are all the consequence of us signing Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson over 10 years ago. Since then we've signed who from the Portuguese league? Bebe and Lindelof?

So is Paul pogba, if paul stays he should be the one playing at 10, and Bruno at 8, Bruno is a good candidate to play as 10 when pogba is missing in the lineup.
I was initially on-board with this transfer because I wanted a midfielder who was capable of ghosting into the box behind Rashford/Lingard's movement. But the deeper I've delved into Bruno, the less I rate him. I just don't see his quality.
Why would we move our best midfielder out of position, to sit a midfielder who excels further forward, into a 10 position that doesn't exist in our set up?
Pogba has shown time and time again he's not suited to the 10 position.
Everyone thinks that we will only sign midfielders if Pogba goes. Well I'm putting my head on the block and saying if we don't bring in any new midfielders this window, then we have no chance of keeping Pogba here.

It's obvious we're not in for him. We want Longstaff to be our Herrera replacement and Maguire to be our new centre back.

But it's not the lack of Fernandes that is the problem. It's the fact that our only midfield target is apparently Longstaff which is just bizarre.
I think a part of me just wants him because he has shit loads of goals and assists. Which is all well and good, but Mkhitaryan had loads of goals and assists too and he was wank for us. If Ole doesn't see a place for him then fair enough.
Seeing how some of the Portuguese fans on here rate him though, I can't help but feel we're going to miss out.
I side with Pogba in wanting to leave, I would do the same if the club continued to flounder and not fix the glaring issues in squad. Took 5 years to get a fecking RB. He may stay this year but will most certainly go next after another disappointing season where we do nothing.
