Where would we be without him? Today, he showed Odegaard what a real top player looks like - never shying away from responsibility, always stepping up when it matters.

Another top performance from Bruno.

I've seen people on here make the argument that we'd be a far better, more controlled team with a player like Odegaard instead of Bruno. I think the opposite. Arsenal would have more points if they had Bruno instead of Odegaard.

Somehow on 10 goals and 14 assists despite the shower of shit teammates around him.

The problem, eh?

That being said, I know it came at him fast and he was under pressure, I thought he should have done better with that chance in injury time. Was hit fairly flat and fairly centrally.

Maybe should have gone higher with that chance at the end.

Looking at the replay it wasn't an easy chance. The Arsenal defenders blocked pretty much every channel apart from the one he hit. Going for height in that situation is risky as you'll sky the ball if you put your foot just slightly wrong. Low with power is what 90% will choose there.

Incidentally, that is also why I'm a big fan of Isak. He seems to go for the high finish very often and it's so satisfying to watch!

As 50/50 as I am most days with Fernandes I think I would be the biggest Odegaard hater if I was an Arsenal fan. Captain, technically gifted, but he’s an absolute fanny. Never looks like he can take a game by the scruff of its neck

Amazing how much flak he has gotten from our fanbase over the years. Including threads saying he was holding us back etc. He’s just a top quality player and embodies the very few things that are still right about the club. Wouldn’t have been out of place in any of the great Fergie squads of bygone years, and probably would’ve been a favourite. Can’t pay him a higher compliment than that.

Yes, he’s not perfect, but very few players are. Without him we would have nothing of any real quality on the pitch. Lots of potential but no real quality. He’s the one bastion of excellence that remains here. Love the guy, and his qualities easily outweigh his flaws.

Agreed

We are a one man team, dread to think where we would be without him. One of, if not our only player who would get a game for a world class team.

And yet check any game thread and he gets dogs abuse on a weekly basis from fans and media. Curious

Great player and a good captain who genuinely gives a shit despite wasting his prime years fighting for a top half finish and playing in the Europa league

I prefer him as a 10. He’s our most dangerous player. Playing him as a CM contributes to our lacklustre attack. I know we need someone to progress the ball from deep but Eriksen could have played that role today. I know he has lost his legs but I don’t think Bruno is much better defensively.

He's looking sharper now than he was in the latter days of Ten Hag. I still don't know how he has the stamina to keep playing as much as he does, absolutely incredible in terms of his fitness.

Since he's been at the club, has he had a striker that the ball can actually stick to?

His entire time here I think he had about half a season with a good Martial in 19/20 and Cavani in 20/21.

That's it in terms of decent out and out strikers. If we'd had a decent striker for his 5 years here he'd have so many more assists to his name.

As I know you've long been not crazy about him.. how do you like him in midfield and in general under Amorim? I've always thought he was class but even I'm surprised at how well he's adapted to playing in midfield and think he's really improved his composure under pressure and his press resistance the past year. Didn't think he had that side to him.

Tbh, I don’t even think we are enough of a football team to really assess how he works in what position/system as such. The main and most obvious thing for me is that he is constantly standing up and trying. He is taking responsibility game after game to actually do something. Half of the time I don’t know whether he is supposed to be playing at CM or AM anyway, especially when he’s playing with Eriksen like today. But he looks like what he is, probably the only mature good player in our team who is actually in his prime years, defenders aside.

I’ve said before but in front of our defence, we have a startling dearth of reliable pros aged between 24 and 30. Everyone is either too old to be expected to lead the team to anything, or too young to do so. We had only Bruno, Rashford and Mount. Mount and Rashford could barely get in the team, but Bruno has been the one player who can deliver something with consistency.

In a better more utopian football team, I don’t see how he gets into the side. That’s not even so much a criticism of him but of one of Amorim and his system. I could probably list the 10 best players in the game and all of them would probably not have a natural position in this formation. Right now, he’s the only one playing at all. Amad was also leading the team before his injury, but now, there is not one other player in midfield or attack that I think we can reasonably expect any top level performance from game to game. Except Ugarte perhaps. These are incredibly difficult circumstances to play football under, but I’m a big big fan of players who don’t make excuses and instead just insist upon performing. This is why I have little time for Hojlund apologists. It’s just like ‘boo hoo’, either step up or don’t, and invariably - these players don’t. Amad hasn’t used any number of presentable Redcafe excuses available to him this season and has instead just taken responsibility and performed. He’s been in and out of the team, then played out of position under a new manager, but has stepped up. Bruno has done the same, and I give him huge credit for that. Carrying the team now, and I just hope Amad can come back this season with us still in the Europa League to give him a hand.

But remember what Keane said, Bruno is part of the problem with his half pressing. (joking here)

Amazes me how people can have a go at this guy. He isn’t physically blessed or a natural dribbler but he’s always there! Top quality.

Easily our most important player for a decade and it's shocking how much hate this guy gets from his own fans constantly.

Bruno is a lot more mobile which makes him more useful as an 8. He is also definitely a lot better defensively. He might not have the defensive awareness of a natural cm but his mobility allows him to have the 3rd most successful tackles in our squad this pl season.
