Good second half. Brilliant for that 3rd goal.

November has been a good month for him. He's turned his season around, thankfully.

Did he explain why he gave the penalty to Rashford? Personally, I think Rashford is the better penalty taker, so had no issue with it if we’ve just decided he should take them, but if Bruno is our actual designated penalty taker then it seemed an odd decision with the game in the balance.

And yet you'll still get the usual suspects in here calling him selfish and claiming that he's setting a bad example to his teammates as captain.

I mean was a great call on the pk as he crushed it, but to say he was "unstoppable after" should get Bruno scheduled for a random drug test ha

Still not quite clicking for me, some inexplicably bizarre passing choices, in particular when he and Martial decided to play tika-taka during a counter-attack, when he had four players screaming forward at speed against three Everton defenders.

I can forgive it, to an extent, because you always get one moment of real quality per game minimum and the effort is always there

Haha agreed. Surprised Bruno wasn't more pissed off at Rashford for failing to execute a simple square pass to him to make it 4-0.

Interesting. Gut feeling or stats?

Senior penalty stats:
Bruno (entire career): 50/55 = 91%
Bruno (since joining Man Utd): 30/33 = 91%
Rashford: 17/19 = 89%

Thought he was poor in the 1st half, good in the 2nd.

I've reconciled myself to the fact that Bruno is going to be profligate in possession and make some bizarre decisions on the ball, but he remains our most likely player to create a chance or a goal, even if playing badly.

Ideally he would be better at retaining possession AND be the creative threat that he is, but sometimes you can't get everything.

The job Erik has now is to get a midfield pairing playing in behind Bruno who can provide the team with a platform to control games in midfield in a way that we haven't seemed capable of doing.

Very nice from Bruno to give the pen to Rashford. And good assist.

The best assist for me. Rashford still played inconsistently after the goal but it was a brilliant penalty at a pivotal moment and an important goal. If this gives Rashford something to build on in the long term then it was a very good 'pass' by Bruno imo. Despite Rashford's awful games this season, he's still one of our most dangerous players in the final third.

Have literally never seen that in here but I guess you are more aware of this thread than I am. One needs to add the goal contribution stats all the time.

That's a fantastic record from both to be fair. Remember when I thought Ruud was almost unstoppable at penalties but I think his record was actually marginally worse than either of those. Puts Rooney's record to shame!

Captain moment giving Rashford the penalty.
Thought running full pelt the whole pitch into the box the last minutes of the game having done his usual active shift in midfield, only to have Rashford feck up the pass was the captain moment for me. He is such an hard working unit it's unbelievable.

Ruud was not as good at penalties: 52/65=80%
Rooney was even worse: 48/61=79%

Rashford has only missed 2 pens? I didn't expect more like 5-6 but I felt it was at least 3 or 4.

Does the Euro Final one count in there?

Nope, it doesn’t count penalty shoot-outs, only regular penalties. Both missed in 19/20 (I think one saved by Krul and another hit the post)

Ruud was much worse at penalties. 52/65=80%

Yeah think he rather fell off a cliff rather after hitting the crossbar against Lehmann :( Have just looked the stats too and he scored 18 out of first 19 with us in 01/02 and 02/03 when he win the golden boot. But then missed 4 out of 7 the following season including the high pressure miss against Lehmann.

Have you not been in this thread in the aftermath of a United defeat? I'm pretty sure me and you had a back and forth shortly after our 3-0 loss to City where this thread was riddled with comments about how he's selfish and setting a bad example as captain. I've quoted a couple to help jog your memory:

Bruno is an individual, he's always been an individual and he is a selfish player that has an over inflated ego. He's certainly not captain material.
He is not captain material for us and never has been. He throws his arms around when things don't go his way. That kind of leadership is not needed right now that's for certain
Bruno is a winner but he is NOT and has NEVER been a Captain of Manchester United in my eyes and he never will be. He is too petulant and selfish.

You're quick with the search I'll give you that. To be honest, I always understood those mentions of selfishness in terms of his moaning and that it seems, like the captaincy adds more pressure onto him, that has negative effects on his play. When I read your comment about selfish, I thought more about a selfish striker who doesn't pass to a team mate or so. Thats what I meant saying that I haven't seen this being mentioned here. I misunderstood your point, I guess, sorry for that in this case.

Ah cheers, so my initial thought was right, including shoot-outs Rashford has missed about 4 then. Boo.

Was nice of him to give the pen to Rashford. He generally seems like a great guy tbh. I’m not one for trying to infer a good or bad person through body language and ‘antics’ on the pitch so don’t care about those - but from his interviews, he always comes across as the sort of person you would want to be your teammate and colleague. Great pro.

Wouldn't call him not good. He was 13/15 for PSV, missed his first penalty for us and then scored 20 in a row. In this day where keepers aren't allowed as much his penalties in the bottom left corner would be unstoppable.

The standards in here are rock bottom. He once again did not play well. Just managed to get his statistic this time

I think his antics and moany demeanors are what trigger people including his own fans, regardless of him being always available no matter how much we've played him, our reliance on him to create in games (due to not having adequate backups, which is not his fault) and him never speaking ill of his boss or colleagues, which can easily disrupt a dressing room.

If that is not a captain material, I don't know what is. He has flaws but he's been playing robot schedules in the past 3 years.

But one shouldn’t judge a player outside the context. He is this season’s top contributor on a G+A basis, with 4+4. It doesn’t mean he is performing well per se, but it does mean he is performing better than many other players in our team. And he would have got significantly better numbers, if not for some dreadful finishing and some 6 or 7 scandalous VAR decisions against us

Can’t believe everyone now thinks he’s captain fantastic cause he let our worst performer of the season take a peno,

I’d even go as far to say it’s the kind of decision a bad captain makes,

If he had of missed who knows where the game could have went

Roy Keane giving Diego Forlan a peno while 4-2 up in the 89th minute against maccabi Haifa at home is a good captain, not 1-0 up away to Everton with 35 mins left after our worst start to a season in god knows how long where we desperately need a win

Abysmal first half, good in the second. Still makes absolutely trash decisions throughout the game, which is one of his major deficiencies. One moment he can make a stunning through ball, and the next minute he can't make a simple pass in the box to the attacker or he just hesitates and gives the opposition defenders time to react and get back into shape. You'd expect more from a "key player" in his prime, but it is who he is. We need to look to replace him next summer.

I didnt really see the 2nd half, but that pass completion is really surprising following his first half performance where he was diabolical.

He was a lot better in the 2nd half just like the rest of the team, but yea he was dire in the first. The way he manages to under hit every other cross/longball/corner does my head in.

Roy Keane went out of his way to mug off Ten Hag for praising Brunos leadership.

Whats wrong with that guy

Really enjoyed that slotted through ball assist for Martial. Very deft and timely. Apart from that, was very captainy today and we’ll need more of that in the hostile environments we’re about to encounter.

He still seems to hold some resentment towards United for the way his career ended. I'd take everything he says with a pinch of salt.
