It's anything to have a go at Liverpool. If United had done this nothing negative would have been said.

Well done LFC! That wreath is class.
If Moyes had stood around posing for pictures in Munich then left a wreath with "Glory Glory Man United" on it at the scene I would have been royally pissed. Not even at Munich, just giving the example of one we actually visited and showed class at, anywhere.

This is pretty low from Liverpool.

Embarassing as feck. Just lay simple wreath if you must. This whole "You'll Never Walk Alone - LFC" and shirt holding thing is an embarassment.

I must admit the wreath is very powerful in this instance, great mark of respect.

FFS that's shocking..

9/11 is real life, people lost their lives that has caused heartache for Americans who had lost loved ones.. It shouldn't be used as an marketing plot to sell shirts or expand in the United States for Liverpool.

No, I think the promotion of the shirt is dumb but I think the wreath alone sends a good message.
There's no acknowledgement of the victims, all it is shameless self promotion. "You'll Never Walk Alone" is bollocks, I hate when people spam it after disasters, we don't need to know your footballing allegement when there is loss. Can you imagine if United fans spammed "RIP Glory Glory Man United" ?

The wreath I don't really have an issue with but the picture of them all standing there grinning with the shirts I do, just does not seem right whatsoever.

Yeah, pretty much how I see it. I'm not really bothered, but if there's anything that comes across as tacky and tasteless it's the cheesy photo 'opportunity'.

You were there then?

'I have visited Manhattan on a number of occasions, both privately and professionally and it is, without doubt, one of the greatest places on the planet, with a spirit and a character that is quite unique.

'When I found out New York was on our pre-season schedule I wanted us, as a club, to come and pay our respects where the World Trade Center once stood and hear some of the emotional, distressing, powerful but also inspiring accounts of that fateful day.

'The stories told to us by firefighter Brown were profoundly moving and touched every one of us. This visit will live in my memory for some time.'

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, I doubt Kenny Rodgers and co are nefariously trying to manipulate 9/11 for their own ends, I think they are trying to be sincere. As ghoulish as it may look (and it looks fairly ghastly to me) I imagine it's more a case of typical bad judgment from the club rather than any deliberate attempt to profit from tragedy.

Although this certainly would have made Private Eye's 'Warballs' section.

Definitely. They're just pretty daft when it comes to this sort of thing at Liverpool. But, like you say, it's not some 'master-plan' or anything.
Typical bad judgement, and a fan base who'll never see it that way, or admit it. Nothing more than that.

They're a step away from going to some celeb's funeral, shaking hands, maybe leaving a wreath (cue photos) and then all gather round the coffin for the "we were there" pic. And their fans think the club is 'classy'? Is it fook!

Liverpool doesn't really think everything through as they should, but I can't even think they are stupid enough to advertise their new kit and smile like that at ground zero. I think that look like Central Park or something? They just can't be that stupid?

Used to kinda like Brendan Rodgers but I can't stand him now. I think he'll get a massive reality check this coming season. There's no Luis to rely on anymore and what he's doing to Southampton is quite frankly, embarrassing.

On top of that, I'm sick of Liverpool milking every tragedy for what its worth. Yes, it's tragic. But I hear about it every fecking week. If it's not Hillsborough, its something else. I also find it funny how they never mention the Heysel thing. Or is it only Liverpool supporters that matter? I couldn't have been more happier to see Gerrard slip on his fecking arse last season and cost them the title. The "do it for Stevie G/do it for the 96" thing left a bad taste in my mouth. If they started focusing on winning the league as a TEAM and not put so much pressure on themselves to "win it for Stevie G", maybe they wouldn't be such underachievers the past 22 years.

What on earth does that even mean?

Going after every good player in a Saints shirt? Come on. He's got 3 already and there's rumors of him going after Rodriguez now. Clubs shouldn't be allowed to buy clubs out like that IMO. But thats my own personal opinion.

I feel for Soton tbh...

Wondered what angle Liverpool were getting it from this time.

Had a look...

Non story. The faux outrage out in full force in here.

Night.

That's some of the stupidest nonsense I've ever seen in here.

There's a fecking massive difference between Heysel and Hillsborough.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers. Not one reliable source has said we're in for Rodriguez.
How so? He's practically buying out the Starting XI.

In what world is buying three players buying out a starting eleven? Are you going to have a moan about what Chelsea are doing to Atletico? What about what Spurs are also trying to do to Southampton? Spurs bought two players off Swansea too. Madrid look like they are about to buy two players from Monaco.

Brenton Rodgers is Gerry Adams' lovechild and Barney Rubble LFC is a fecking dipper plank who's just here to try and convince us all that the Pool are BACK.

Feck off, L'pool are that bog standard shite that we've watched for many years. City or Chelsea are the teams to beat, United and Arse will be up there, Rodgers is a fecking pillock and LFC stink of council house piss.

They finished second and were good value for it too, not to mention they challenged till the last day. Some of that you can attribute to Suarez, but not all. Keep convincing yourself they aren't a threat but you are. Also find it funny you mock him and say he's trying to convince you that "Pool is back" when all I hear over and over from United fans is how they are back now LVG is in.

I dont see anything wrong with it, from reading the page i thought they were selling 9/11 shirts to promote the american fan base etc. Just seems Like Rodgers wants to pay his respects to the site i dont think their is really any ulterior motive to it.

The only difference I can see is that Heysel gets ignored by the English media cause it makes an English team look bad. Not even on the anniversary, did anything get said about it. I hear about Hillsborough every fecking day. And yes I know... ~justice~ and all that.

Chelsea are hardly buying out Atletico. Courtois was there on loan. But for what its worth, yes I do feel a little bad for them considering they lost 5 of their best players straight after winning the league and reaching the CL final. The situations are hardly comparable though. Southampton aren't as good as those teams, and atletico can easily sign a Mandzukic and Griezmann to make up for their losses but Southampton? They're probably at the risk of relegation if they don't sign some good players and quick.

It's an open market. Including Shaw and Chambers, Saints have made about £80m on these sales. That's enough to secure the club's future for years to come.

You're clearly not thinking hard enough if the only difference you come up with is that one incident makes an English team look bad. You're also dead wrong about the Heysel anniversary. We pay our respects every year.

Chelsea have bought Luis and Costa - one less player than we've bought from Southampton. Southampton will also receive money to purchase players so why can't they go out and buy good replacements? Their situation is no different to Atletico's, it's just at a lower level. Your argument is frankly ridiculous. Southampton didn't have to sell. All of these players were on long term deals. Atletico had no choice in the matter.

Ok, I'll tell you.

Hillsborough involved a state cover up to blame innocent people for their own deaths. A cover up that lasted 23 years and the perpetrators still haven't been brought to justice. This is what sustains this story. I thought most knew this.

Hysel was a horrible tragedy where a handful of idiots got out of hand in a stadium not fit for purpose. Jacques Georges, the Uefa president at the time, and Hans Bangerter, his general secretary, were threatened with imprisonment but eventually given conditional discharges. Albert Roosens, the secretary-general of the Belgian Football Union, was given a six-month suspended prison sentence for “regrettable negligence” with regard to ticketing arrangements.

It was a shocking tragedy but prosecutions were made, 14 fans went to prison. There was no prevailing miscarriage of justice. More than £5million were awarded to families of the Heysel victims.

The two incidents are different.

This thread has just turned sick, the guy who bumped it and mentioned Munich to the Hillsborough & Heysel references.

LFC paid their respects to the 9/11 victims. These are all people who lost their lives - let's have some respect on here please too.
