Looking at that record, LvG is a better cup and league specialist.

But its still his first season in the PL, every manager (even Mourinho) needs to settle in (or back in as in Jose's case). Brendan has had his settling in period.

“If you look at the history of the winning teams they have always come close,” said Rodgers.

“You look at the United team that won it in 1993, they came close in 1992 when they lost it to Leeds. They came back the following year and won it.

“That set up an era of winning for them. I think it is a part of the process of winning, to be able to lose in how we done.

“What it has done with this team and this group, it has made us even more unified and stronger to be more successful in the future.

Cart before the horse & all that.

There are of course a few counterexamples, of teams finishing 2nd, and not going on to win the league in the following season, notably Liverpool in 1990-91 (finished 6th the following season), Liverpool 2001-02 (5th the following season), Liverpool 2008-09 (7th the following season).

I sense a pattern there!

No they don't count. Every team that has come close once has gone on to win everything for the next 10 years.

Yeah was just thinking of their fall from grace in the 2009/10 season.

Another marvellous piece of guff from Rodgers.

I like him as a manager but that's his one weakness for sure, he talks absolute shite at times!

I'm not trying to stir or have a dig, the following is a genuine question, what is the general view amongst pool supporters of then chairman john smiths attempts to shift the blame to Chelsea fans?
Its not just that, but the comment, a handful of idiots. Did they not watch it as it happened. It was far from a handful.
Anyway it was dreadful and we should be above bringing this up every season to score some moral points.

Post of the day.

How is it a weakness?

His credibility, obviously. As a human being, not understanding half the stuff you're saying is indeed a weakness. Some of us keep that to a minimum.

Rodgers clearly fancies himself as some kind of pseudo-intellectual (like some other managers do, to be fair.)

He'll get away with it provided the results on the pitch keep going positively but it's something an under pressure manager (should things slide for you) could do without in their locker.

Clearly isn't a strength of his anyway, nevermind whether you agree it's a weakness or not.

Rodgers isn't very smart (like Moyes). You only have to listen to Pellegrini, Wenger, Mourinho, Ancelotti, van Gaal et al for 5 minutes to realise these are very clever blokes.

All of these comparisons are stupid when he's been in the game much less time.

He was clever enough to finish ahead of Wenger and he'll be clever enough to finish ahead of him again.

Arsenal will finish ahead of Liverpool. And Wenger is better than Rodgers.

Last year you had Suarez in ridiculous form. And arsenal's best player got injured and missed a lot of the season.

He wasn't clever enough to keep Suarez so he's focked. Rafa was was a smart guy, you shouldn't have sacked him.

Interesting. You've spent a lot of time pissing on Mourinho, so suprising to see you say that.
