Meh, if that's the best Uniteds rivals can throw at the club then it's pretty weak. Got to laugh when it's Liverpool fans taking the high moral ground on anything though.

Nobody's taking the moral high ground, because I'd still feel exactly the same way even if it was my own club. I've got Manchester United supporting mates who share the same opinion insofar that they believe that Martin Edwards saw this as a good opportunity to raise United's worldwide profile. & when you put yourself in his shoes, I suppose it was too good to turn down. Because who knew when such an opportunity was going to arise again ? There was a possibility that United could have gotten a tough away draw, & got themselves knocked out in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Edwards & Ferguson would have been well pissed off seeing Bayern Munich take their place in the WCC, & grab all the rewards that went with it - It's this - 'we're the victims here' - that doesn't sit too well with a lot of people. Just because your owner & manager went on a media PR campaign to try & smooth the waters, it still doesn't mean their words were not a load of bollocks aimed primarily at appeasing their own supporters, many, who were just as miffed as non-United supporters.

It's anyone's guess as to who instigated the whole thing. But it certainly screams out to a lot of 'non-blinkered' people, that it was a cosy little arrangement, in which The FA, & Manchester United, stood to gain quite a lot.

Comparing it to Liverpool who might not even get a Europa place then wanting to throw it away is well, just like your name. United withdrew from the FA Cup in 2000 in an effort to help the FA & England’s bid to host the 2006 World Cup. SAF didn't want to throw in a total bunch of reserves as he felt it would devalue the Cup. He did later admit it was a wrong move though.

The Europa League on the other hand is a competition that is entered through merit and not automatically like the FA Cup. They are 2 totally different competitions. While you may not like the idea of fair play entrants it is just a reward for teams across Europe who have behaved the best. Brenton says his asian tour would clash with the early stages of the Europa, now how is that the same thing with United's 2000 FA Cup?

Anyway he appears to have changed his mind claiming his last comments were a joke :wenger:

http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/205461.html

He also stated afterwards that the 2 week break away from English football helped energise his team.

Every cloud eh ?

& I wasn't comparing United's decision to pull out of the FA Cup to anything. Because it was, & still is, fairly unique anyway. I pointed out that a lot of teams in the modern game prioritise competitions in relation to their own circumstances. Fielding weakened teams in The League Cup is a prime example. Likewise, the dog's dinner of a competition called The Europa League. There was a time I would have been angry at my club for showing such disrespect to a couple of tournaments that were once worth winning. But it's now become the norm for a lot of clubs to diss them, because over the years they've become de-valued by clubs, & supporters, alike. Manchester United were one of the original pioneers of that concept. Therefore, I don't think it's supporters have any grounds to criticise, or moralise, when another club, for whatever reason, feels it's in it's own best interest not to give too much effort in the participation of one of the aforementioned competitions.

You might have been daft enough to swallow all the bullshit & hand-wringing spewed out from your club. But don't judge the rest of us on your idiotic, blinkered misconceptions.

Are you on a windup? feck me you're talking some utter scrote here..

Another example of perfectly decent quotes. What's wrong with what he said?

Yeah. Not only is he sending out the right message to fans, it's far from ridiculous.

“In 12 months time I would like to think we would be challenging for the top four, if not already being in the top four,” said the Liverpool boss.

Challenging for top four in 12 months. They should have been doing that this month.

Although I'd have to disagree with...

“This club hasn't played second fiddle in its history"

That's just silly talk.

Didn't see this posted elsewhere, so doing it here. Wouldn't have any of you missing it!

Everyone is being pedantic over that statement, I think it's pretty clear what he's saying. Just a poor choice of words.

He's always trying to make swooping statements that'll make him look brilliant, but fails so often which is what makes it funny. If he just talked like a normal person I don't think people would find that quote funny - it's funny because it's coming from him.

From yesterday:

"We're on 10 points already and at the end of last season we finished on 61 points and we talked about those extra 10 points that might have taken us into the Champions League - at this early stage we've got them."

:wenger: feck me, how does it work? They played 4 games for those 10 points (5 now) and anyway should have got 7 points from those (10 now). Didn't know they were granted bonus games to get those 10 points.

Classic Brenton.

I'm surprised you lot didn't know about the "If Liverpool get 10 points in 4 games it counts as double" bonus.

Its second only to the "If Liverpool hit the post it counts as a goal" bonus.

Liverpool have Sunderland and Palace in their next 2 premier league games, this must be one of their easiest starts.

They play City and Chelsea consecutively away during Christmas fixtures. 2 games in 3 days. 26th and 28th. I expect the conspiracy theories to come out in full flow then.

To be honest they usually have my support against those 2 oil mobs. Looks bad for them though

Unless it is too close between us and those 2 oily clubs, I prefer draw. Very difficult for me to support Liverpool. When we needed a win from them, they threw it away. (Stevie Me back pass vs Chelsea)

"When I came here last year, there was no consistency in the performance," said Rodgers following Monday's 2-2 draw with Swansea. "But now we are just churning out wins and if we can't win we are drawing games with resilient performances, like in the last 25 minutes against Swansea."

Rodgers before this match.

I was utterly convinced Liverpool were going to lose today. It happens every time they win a few and their players and fans start to declare how amazing they are and how they can win the league this year. Lawro saying Liverpool were the only outstanding in the prem and they could win the title was also hilarious. They've been decent but were fortunate to come away with three wins from their first three fixtures and could have quite easily have lost to Swansea as well. Still think they can challenge 4th though as Suarez is world class and both Sturridge and Coutinho are playing very well.

Maybe if you hadn't lost to Chelsea home and away you wouldn't rely on favours.

So he selects four CBs to start and then moans afterwards about the criminal defending.
Yes very odd selection, apparently Enrique wasn't 100% fit but it was still weird.

Wasn't the reason we lost, we were crap all over the pitch, but didn't help for sure.

Yes, I was not putting blame of losing title on Liverpool, was just explaining how frustrating it can be to hope for Liverpool win as a favour.

In his interview from yesterday he said that the only positive to come out of the loss was that Suarez will be back on Wednesday.

I don't get what relevance one has to do with the other.

Absolutely no relevance but Rodgers loves to say stuff that makes him come across intelligent even if what he says is at times really stupid. A wannabe *********** of football.

That result, & the performance, has been coming ever since the 2nd half against Villa. Don't know if Rodgers has changed tact from last season, but a lot of play has been very conservative & defensive. We were shocking yesterday. Let's hope the manager & players see it as a wake up call.

Tbf, any manager will try to spin some positives from a bad day at the office, even if they are tenuous.

It's utterly bizarre they've been average in the first four games and everyone is creaming themselves to heap praise on them. I'll never get it. Sunderland and Palace are just as tough as any game for them IMO, wouldn't be surprised if they lose them. Sunderland are struggling and palace have plenty to offer.
