Good point, Ronnie.

@JohnBrewinESPN: Brendan Rodgers: "Apart from the opening 5-10 minutes it was a near perfect away performance." #lfc

What's wrong with this guy?
Does he know that you need an away goal for it to be a "near perfect away performance"?

I guess now is as good a time as any, to shamelessly recycle this:

He's going down the same route as Rafa and Kenny, he's creating an illusion that everything is fantastic, so much progress, playing great football, some incredible performances and completely ignore those pesky "points" that teams like United lose sight of everything else and become obsessed with. The problem is that his bosses aren't stupid and will be pulling the plug soon if they don't see progress in the important currency of points.

I fecking love him. Liverpool just sends managers round the bend. He will get to next xmas at the most and will get axed if there is no real improvement. Then they'll employ someone else and the cycle will repeat.

who do you lot will next? surely martinez won't touch this lot.

If Wigan go down (and I think they eventually will this season, their team is dire) he'll probably want a Premier League job so he might end up there after all.

wasn't the system at Swansea also use by Martinez and Sousa before Rodgers even got there, Why do they believe the man is revolutionising football.

It was Martinez's system. He left and Sousa tried to change things afaik andthe players didn't have a bar of it and he was sacked. Rogers basically walked back into the setup and put most if it back to the way it was and with the lack of pressure was able to take it forward.

Add in a few ego's at Liverpool and people doubting that he knows what he's talking about... Suddenly it's not so easy to be all seeing and all knowing.

Don't see Liverpool winning the Europa League even if they somehow overcome Zenit in the return leg. They are out of the FA cup (to Oldham), didn't do well in the league cup and are worse off in the league with the same no. of games played under Dalglish last season. Now surely of one those envelopes has his own name on it!

Fair play to him for saying this:

"I can only thank the people of St Petersburg for their hospitality shown towards our football club and how we have been received here. It's been fantastic.

"There were no problems tonight at the game - it was a wonderful match and a terrific atmosphere. On behalf of Liverpool Football Club, I'd like to thank the people of St Petersburg and Russia."

As for the football, he made mistakes again last night.
Sterling should never have started, and gave no support to Enrique whatsoever.
Allen is looking worryingly average, he started the season very well but for some reason he has lost all confidence.

Whatever has been discussed about our lack of striking options before Coutinho and Sturridge arrival is fair comment, but the big problem is we keep conceding goals and until we stop there will be results like last night.

A Vidic, Kompany type commanding centre back is a must, maybe even need 2 of them.

You could argue Suarez could have had a hat trick, and their first goal was out of nothing at a time when we looked comfortable, but the passing was poor overall, albeit on a poor pitch.

 but your CB's are the best pair in Europe apparently..

Skrtel was excellent last season, his best since he joined, but hasn't really formed a good solid partnership with anyone of late - I don't know why.

Agger can't defend from set pieces, is a good footballer, but I am not sure he is a top defender.

Johnson and Enrique being probably better going forward than defending doesn't help.

Should have taken the 25 million or whatever City were paying for Agger and run.

Think the Fullbacks are a bigger problem than CB's for them. I guess they can replace one of the 2 CB's, but Johnson makes constant defensive errors and Enrique isn't too flash either.

Enrique was awful second half of last season, terrible, but he has done a lot better this season.
But yes, as I said earlier, their strengths aren't in defending.

Brendan needs to sort it out big time in the summer window.

I don't understand this a flawless away performance after the first 15 minutes shit.

I can't find that comment in his after match conference, it's certainly not on the LFC official site.
Doesn't make any sense, also just seen an interview and he never said it then either.

Whats wrong with this guy, who is he trying to kid? He keeps making these 'almost perfect performance' type of excuses after every defeat, we all watch the game and can see he's talking bollocks I dont get what he's trying to achieve apart from making himself look like a complete muppet.

Has anyone actually seen the interview and witnessed him saying it?

With just a wee bit of luck they could have up 5-0

From Skysports

Second-half goals from Hulk and Sergei Semak sealed the defeat, leaving the Reds with an uphill task at Anfield next week.

Rodgers said: "If we can be solid defensively as a group, we know we can create the chances to score.

"The next goal is vital for us, if we get the next goal it opens up the tie.

"We're very disappointed to have lost the game. After that opening spell, when they had too much space, I thought it was a near-on perfect away performance.

"If we can be solid defensively as a group, we know we can create the chances to score."

"We had chances to score and should have been in front, and we were defensively solid.

"So to concede the two goals in the last 20 minutes, especially the second one, was disappointing.

"Luis Suarez could have had a hat-trick by half-time but it just wasn't his night but he's been brilliant for us all season."

Has anyone actually seen the interview and witnessed him saying it?

Yes.

It was the itv interview straight after the game.

And yes, he said it.

He then went on to say you left too much space behind for the goals. Which was also odd, given the first one came from henderson faffing around in the middle of the park and losing the ball leading to a strike from 25 yards, and the second one came from Glen son of John admiring the view of the stadium instead of watching the guy who had run behind him completely unmarked to score.

I read Kenny Jacket before Martinez had a hand in it all too, tbf
