You think that Ferguson would have drummed out your star player based on a dispute of what did ultimately come down to one player's word against another?

Yup he would.

The man who shifted out stam beckham and nilstelroy has no qualms about such things.

And given he admitted doing it, it wasnt one porsons word against another, no matter how often its said.

United also wouldnt get members of staff to lie about it infront of a hearing, so badly, I may ad, they had to go back and tell a different story.

Forgive me for not being as well-versed on this case as United and Liverpool fans for obvious reasons but as I understand it, wasn't there a serious discrepancy in the accounts between Suarez and Evra?

Suarez said that he referred to him as "negrito" once or twice and Evra said that Suarez said that he "kicked" Evra because he was black and then said "I don't talk to blacks" and "dalle, negrito" etc...

Obviously there was no way to establish exactly what was said but due to discrepancies in Suarez's testimony the balance of probability was that there were racial comments used?

I think Fergie would have certainly shipped out Suarez after the whole handshake debacle. Fergie doesn't take too well to players defying his instructions so publicly.

Suarez admitted to using the words he was accused of. That was how he was found guilty. His silly defence of using it a different manner that was laughable by most reasonable people is not one player's word against another.

To using the word "negrito"? What about the more serious claims about "kicking him" cos he was black and how Suarez "doesn't talk to blacks"? What was the finding on those?

The word negrito was never part of it, not his statement , not his admission, not evras.

he called Evra a negro, and said he kicked him because he was a negro.

he admitted doing it.

Do you have the quote where says he admits saying that he admitted that he said that he kicked Evra because he was black?

yeah. its all pretty well documented. instead of getting technical, sure Fergie and the management would not have tolerated a tactic of trying to get another player sent off in such a despicable manner.

the top clubs have such diverse followings all over the world....its just not good business if you want to take it from just that point. Dalglish was fired for being completely unprofessional. Rogers must have given assurances Suarez will cut out the crap going forward. imo they should have taken the loss and shipped him out. But then these people may only be interested in short term anyways.

I don't know how true that is, about the international fanbase. Love is blind - I see hundreds of comments from African Chelsea fans worshipping John Terry, for example.

If a player is good enough for a club, most fans of whatever creed will focus on that rather than the other unsavoury aspects of their character imho.

They would be fecked without him so there is no way they will get rid of him.

fair point. but this is a business and sponsors don't want to be associated with racism. we are a multi-cultural society...and such behavior is decades old...and has no place in these times.

in the short term the team would be weaker...but he is not irreplaceable.

He's after Ashley Williams apparently.

Fook that.

Not sure he is right for us but we badly need a commanding centre half.

Rumour Zenit want Skrtel back, I can see him and Coates leaving in the summer and 2 new players coming in.
The defense has to be sorted out.

“I can’t control how the things I say are promoted,” said Rodgers. “If you say the same thing to six different people, you will get six different interpretations of that. While there’s a chance I have to retain my optimism."

“I don’t want to be hung out to dry as a fool. I am a glass-half-full man. I have got to where I am in life because I am optimistic. That is how I have always approached my work and my life."

“If you don’t think you can do it then you won’t do it. You have to see it to believe it. I’ve always said that you can live without water for many days, but you can’t live for a second without hope. If you don’t have hope then you’ve got no chance.”

Commendable attitude, but...Liverpool might as well have employed one of those 'quit smoking in 24 hours' cassette tapes.

He never used the word negrito, nor claimed to have used it. It was always 'negro'. The whole negrito-thing is a fabrication of Liverpool-supporters.

Suarez admitted using the word 'negro' but denied using it to insult Evra. And he definately didn't admit saying 'I kick you because you're black' or 'I don't talk to blacks'.

So in the end, it was a case of Suarez' word against Evra's, but several elements pointed towards Suarez lying. Not in the least the fact that he changed his own story multiple times and that Kuyt's and Commoli's initial declarations supported Evra's story rather than Suarez'. That's why the commission ruled that Suarez was an unreliable witness and decided to follow Evra's account.

I'm really surprised that so many people keep discussing this case without actually having read the FA report. On both sides. Not only the Liverpool supporters blabbing on about 'negrito' and that being some term of endearment in Uruguay, but also United supporters claiming that Suarez admitted everything. He didn't.

The report must still be out there, as well as some summaries.

I had no idea how short he was until I saw him being interviewed by a Michael Owen who had to look down on him on MOTD2 last night. There's so much wrong with that sentence.

Anyway, here's a picture of him standing on a box in order to greet Michael Laudrup yesterday.

Well to be fair to Brenton he helped us take 4 points off Citeh this season, while giving us all 6. Now surely he must be given another season!

Good to see people stilll discussing the Suarez/Evra incident.

There really wasn't enough chat about that at the time imo.

I don't understand:

"This was never going to be a bolt of lightning season,” said Rodgers. “Some people can come in to a real mature, strong group of players and take it forward very quickly. Whatever people look at, that was never going to happen here because of the depth of the group. It got to two cup finals last season but it was broken up. Players left. I moved some on. Last year the Carling Cup was a clear priority for Liverpool.

“For me, it couldn’t have been. I didn’t have the depth of squad for that. As much as I wanted it to be, I never felt it was going to be that sort of season, unless we could get the reinforcements. This has been a great learning curve and we need to keep building now.”

Didn't he say at one point of the season they could finish second?

So, Liverpool supporters are begging for fair refs, but Rodgers is hoping that Liverpool's supporters will unsettle him to give decisions in their favour. OK then...

I don't understand:

Didn't he say at one point of the season they could finish second?

Well, kind of:

"We lie four points off the top four," said Rodgers.
"For me the ambition is to grow higher. We are 11 points off second and that can all turn around very quickly."

At the time we were I suppose, depends on the context you want to take his quote in.
Was it ever realistic? No.

Yep, he is also saying last year they prioritised the carling cup at the expense of the league, but he cannot and has to prioritise the league.

The sticking point of course, is that they were also doing better in the league last year.

Pretty sure he said something about back to back wins for the rest of the season, and then they lost or drew their next game. He's a pillock, I actually can't stand him.

He took Roberto Martinez's Swansea to the PL and kept them there without really improving them and that's it. He's an unproven bore of a manager who almost got a play-off spot achieving Reading (both before and after his tenure) relegated from the Championship. Swansea are now arguably a weaker side, having lost two of their promising young players in the Summer transfer window but lying 8th in the table, with 10 points fewer than last season and 11 games to play.

He's an arrogant prick who is also a deluded little shit. At least Rafa and Kenny had won trophies and achieved some level of success, Brenton has done feck all yet talks as if he is some God-sent saviour who will rescue Liverpool.

He has yet to take some responsibility for their failed season. He blames luck, referees, United, referees, fans, referees, the post, referees, young players who are shit, referees, lack of squad depth and referees for their losses. Never has he taken responsibility for his own failings. It's always someone else's fault when they lose.

Plus, he always has a smug look on his face after they lose, as if he thinks real progress is being made. cnut.

Has anyone read the first ten posts in this thread? ....
"Rodgers earned his Spurs at Chelsea and is a close personal friend of Mourinho. Their football and self belief is fantastic to watch"
"Fergie's replacement? "
"They play some wonderful football. quite an achievement. Credit to rodgers."

Give him time. It's all about consistancy at this point.

Good God. He's doing a decent job at Swansea but a win against Arsenal doesn't mean that Rodgers should replace Ferguson. Coyle was fantastic in the Premier League to begin with - would you have him at Man Utd now?

And immediately shot down.
