Important sports news in that sidebar: Bielsa sits on a cup of coffee, and Andy Murray meets a giant plastic robot.

Rodgers wants to play fast possession football, doesn't he? Just looking at his summer transfers, not many appear suited to his system...

Lambert and Balotello don't look like ideal fits for that. Can is hard to say. The rest definitely do.

I dunno about the Liverpool defence liking fast possession footy, they mainly look like they'd prefer the ball to be up the other end.

Ours is quite a lot like that too, obv. :(

edit - not sure who/what I'm supposed to quoting here

He has awful strikers AND an awful defense, but he also has Liverpool ahead of us in the standings.
Let's be honest, apart from Agger, who they didn't really want and Suarez, they have all the same players that were supposed to be the next big thing. The players that left have been replaced Agger with Lovren, and brought in Lambert and Balotteli for Suarez. Plus added a few players to add depth. They have really only missed 1 player this season from their normal starting 11, in Sturridge. So really, they should have performed a lot better and it is interesting that in the 70s and 80s new players were groomed into the first team, prior to being given an automatic place. Rodgers seems clueless as to what is his first 11.

United are still in turmoil, LVG has not had the luxury of playing his best back line (if he knows what it is) due to injuries. He has a midfield comprising 3 new players that are still getting to grips with not only being at United, but also the PL pace. And 2 strikers all coming back from injuries. On paper United should have a lot more points, but LVGs record since bringing in his new players is not as bad as people make out. But for the Leicester disaster, yesterday would have been the first points he has dropped without a team gelling.

This isn't true. From last season's back four only Skrtel has had proper game time. Flanagan and Johnson have been injured. Having three brand new defenders start all at the same time has taken its toll. In midfield Allen has been out most of the season which is a blow and up front Suarez and Sturridge are absent from last year's dominant team - that's 50 goals right there.

Of course the team could and should be performing better but to suggest that it's the difference of only 1 player missing is inaccurate. Injuries and the sale of an outstanding player makes this a very different team to last season.

The only positive right now is that results are not as bad as performances for the most part. To be four points off City at this point is remarkable given the changes and dip in form.

Markovic might look better in a more direct system, no? The times he stood out in the admittedly few matches I saw of him last year were playing on the counter and scaring tired teams with his dribbling late in games.

I hope his team wins tonight because they're playing Real Madrid, but they'll get a tonking.

Does Rodgers know how to park the bus? If he wants to get anything today I think that's what he's gotta do. I've got a feeling Liverpool will go all out though and lose in a high scoring game.

Well Madrid aren't great defensively either, but they should have enough.

The only fly in the ointment is RM not taking them seriously enough.

It's their toughest group game so I'm sure they'll take it seriously. The 3rd game isn't the time to be taking it easy.

I'm currently deciding how much to lump on Madrid because I think 4/5 is good value.

Madrid will absolutely destroy them.....This will be embarrassing for Liverpool

Ooo, let's hope so!

Don't forget, the Scouse are renowned for getting themselves up for the big games. That's what concerns me, that RM believe they can just brush them aside, which they no doubt can, so don't take them seriously enough.

Agreed, if he's got any sort of sense they have to set up negatively and hope for something from the odd counter or set-piece. I get the feeling that Rodgers' ego wont' allow him to do that though. He'll likely try to out-football Real Madrid and be made to look an absolute clown. (Well that's my hope anyways )

I don't think so. I think Madrid will have an eye on Saturday. Barca did the same yesterday, stopped playing in the 2nd half, took Messi, Neymar and Iniesta off. Expect the same from Madrid if they manage to go ahead by 2 goals.

I expect Liverpool to get a result tonight. They'll get hammered at the Bernabeu though.

I'm assuming they'll raise their game tonight, but still think their defence will damage 'em. Can't see Liverpool winning, maybe a draw if they play exceptional.

They're not great but Liverpool need to be careful, going gung ho against Madrid could see them on the end of a mauling.

I hope he tries that. Even if it does come off for them, at least we'll get to see a good match.

Brentan won't park the bus. Although he thinks it's easy to if his comments about Jose in April are anything to go by.

Allen is hardly a first choice for your midfield, he spends most of his time being a super sub. Your front line was pirmarily the SSS and midfield was Henderson, Gerrard, Coutinho last year. At the back, I was under the impression that Johnson had played 50% of your games so far, Sakho over 50% and Skrtel over 75% and Lovren 100%. Which is a pretty consistent back line in comparison to say us.

I agree loss of form, but my point of 1 missing player (Sturridge) is that the other players from last year have largely been available and it has been BRs choice not to play them. There is no major upheaval in tactics/formations.
